This chapter is about designing service-learning and gives voice to college students engaging in service along with children and families who attend a culturally diverse urban Title One school. The various settings presented in this chapter show the numerous options open to service-learners in the University Assisted Community School. Engagement in this program realizes that schools with low resources have communities with low resources and communities with low resources have schools with low resources.

Service-learning in the educational sector has shown increased impact on student lifelong learning and institutional commitment to the community over the past decade. Universities in the Philippines provide various service-learning programs for their partner communities, to address students’ understanding of real-life community needs. However, there has been little study on students’ service-learning in geriatric institutions. This article first discusses higher education in the Philippines, noting the impact of the National Service Training Program on institutions’ programs. It then describes how one university, the University of Santo Tomas, has responded to this policy framework with the development of community programs that also meet its goals for social transformation. One particular program is examined – a service-learning program involving college students and a geriatric institution in Manila. Early qualitative feedback provides an understanding of college students’ perceptions of the elderly and the service-learning implemented by the university. It also offers a strong foundation for continuing to improve the current service-learning program. From this study an 8-loop model has been developed for future evaluations of the service-learning program in this geriatric institution. Today’s youth are facing a number of troubling issues including substance abuse, family disturbances, bullying, low morale resulting in low academic achievement, dropping out of school, and more. Having someone who cares about youth, to talk to them about the issues they face and mentoring them, can be a positive factor for all involved. Experiences of 10 high-achieving first-generation college students from low-income backgrounds were the focus of this qualitative research study. Family adversity and difficult personal experiences during adolescence were major themes; however, students benefitted from emotionally supportive K-12 educators and academic rigor in high school. Sustained family pride helped to keep them focused on reaching their goals, as well as intellectual engagement at the university, and influential mentors. The 10 participants developed a strong sense of purpose at the university and graduated well prepared for careers and graduate school. Implications of the findings are presented along with suggestions for designing effective university experiences for talented first-generation students.

The study focused basically on measuring the relationship between the material cost of the students benefits program and the benefits which are earned by it, which was distributed on college students in the initial stages (matinee) and to show the extent of the benefits accruing from the grant program compared to the material burdens which matched and the extent of success or failure of the experience and its effect from o scientific and side on the Iraqi student through these tough economic circumstances experienced by the country in general, and also trying to find ways of proposed increase or expansion of distribution in the future in the event of proven economic feasibility from the program. An data has been taking from the data fro the Department of Financial Affairs and the Department of Studies and Planning at the University of Diyala with taking an data representing an actual and minimized pattern and questionnaires to a sample of students from the Department of Life Sciences in the Faculty of Education of the University of Diyala on the level of success and failure of students in the first year of the grant and the year before for the purpose of distribution comparison. The importance of the study to measure the extent of interest earned in comparision whit the material which is expenseon the program of grant (grant of students) to assist the competent authorities to continue or not in the program of student grants for the coming years.

This research discussed the issue of the development of learning module based computer technology especially a powerpoint. This module is intended to help students receive the material that was delivered by lecturer especially design structured matter which currently learning module media shaped print and the contents of the text are form module so the university students ca not see the material . Based on these problems was built a module learning computer technology with a powerpoint . The reason the manufacture of the module was structured design material with a picture and a symbol of in designing a system so it needs to ease student visualiasi received mater learning. Method of development this module use the model ADDIE (analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation). Results in this research validated by 2 ( two ) experts namely the people of material said 80% module very reasonable used without revision and media experts said 84% module very reasonable used without revision while results trial by college students by means of pre-test and post-test. The results obtained module very well be used.
