This study identifies various issues in managing transportation logistics activities on the basis of literature review and expert panel discussions so that the facilitation of e-applications can be used for managing transportation logistics activities. A field survey was conducted for checking the relevance level on a five-point Likert scale. A total of 198 responses were obtained from taken from mill managers, distributors, IT companies and large-size sugar consuming companies (LSSCC) to check the scope of e-applications for the issues in both structured and unstructured ways. With these respondents, the suitability of e-applications was checked for the issues related to transportation management activities. The study results are statistically significant and correlated to each other which help in facilitating e-applications. The study also provides some suggestive e-solutions with respect to different transportation logistics management activities with certain implications.

This study seeks to analyze the effect of logistics management carried out by warehouse operators, the facilities and access provided to support storage, and the competitiveness of storage costs on the use of warehouse financing by suppliers in Central Java, Indonesia. The sampling method was purposive random sampling. The numbers of respondents involved in this study were 120 suppliers and farmers producing first-rate agricultural products and who are users of warehouse receipts in the Central Java region. By using linear regression analysis with assistance, the study results found that the variables of logistic management, facilities and supply chain access as well as competitive storage costs have positive and significant effects on the use of warehousing financing by suppliers and farmers who use public warehousing. This result confirms that the more precisely warehousing is managed, the higher the level of trust of users involved in the logistics business and supply chain of agricultural products to use additional services in the form of warehouse receipts to support the sustainability of agricultural businesses.

Purpose This paper aims to review the healthcare supply chain (HSC) literature along various areas and to find out the gap in it. Design/methodology/approach In total, 143 research papers were reviewed during 1996-2017. A critical review was carried out in various dimensions such as research methodologies/data collection method (empirical, case study and literature review) and inquiry mode of research methodology (qualitative, quantitative and mixed), country-specific, targeted area, research aim and year of publication. Findings Supply chain (SC) operations, performance measurement, inventory management, lean and agile operation, and use of information technology were well studied and analyzed, however, employee and customer training, tracking and visibility of medicines, cold chain management, human resource practices, risk management and waste management are felt to be important areas but not much attention were made in this direction. Research limitations/implications Mainly drug and vaccine SC were considered in current study of HSC while SC along healthcare equipment and machine, hospitality and drug manufacturing related papers were excluded in this study. Practical implications This literature review has recognized and analyzed various issues relevant to HSC and shows the direction for future research to develop an efficient and effective HSC. Originality/value The insight of various aspects of HSC was explored in general for better and deeper understanding of it for designing of an efficient and competent HSC. The outcomes of the study may form a basis to decide direction of future research.

The use of mobile technologies is important for Supply Chain Management (SCM) because these technologies allow for a ubiquitous flow of information, higher agility and risk reduction in supply chains. In food markets, these issues are particularly relevant due to food safety risks. The main goal of this paper is to analyze the use of mobile technology for management and risk control in the Brazilian beef supply chain, since Brazil is one of the main producers and beef exporters in the world. The research method was a single case study. Results show the actual level of mobile technology use; drivers and barriers to mobile technology adoption and how mobile technology is applied to beef traceability and risk reduction along the chain. The authors propose a framework that links the issues of mobile technology use for SCM and risk control, considering the context of a developing country such as Brazil.

The main purpose of this paper is to present what the Industry 5.0 phenomenon means in the supply chain context. A systematic literature review method was used to get evidence from the current knowledge linked to this theme. The results have evidenced a strong gap related to Industry 5.0 approaches for the supply chain field. Forty-one (41) publications, including conference and journal papers, have been found in the literature. Nineteen (19) words, which were grouped in four (4) clusters, have been identified in the data analysis. This was the basis to form the four (4) constructs of Industry 5.0: Industry Strategy, Innovation and Technologies, Society and Sustainability, and Transition Issues. Then, an alignment with the supply chain context was proposed, being the basis for the incipient Supply Chain 5.0 framework and its research agenda. Industry 5.0 is still in an embryonic and ideal stage. The literature is scarce and many other concepts and discoveries are going to emerge. Although this literature review is based on few available sources, it provides insightful and novel concepts related to Industry 5.0 in the supply chain context. Moreover, it presents a clear set of constructs and a structured research agenda to encourage researchers in deploying further conceptual and empirical works linked to the subject herein explored. Organizations’ leadership, policymakers, and other practitioners involved in supply chains, and mainly those currently working with Industry 4.0 initiatives, can benefit from this research by having clear guidance regarding the dimensions needed to structurally design and implement an Industry 5.0 strategy. This article adds valuable insights to researchers and practitioners, by approaching the newest and revolutionary concept of the Industry 5.0 phenomenon in the supply chain context, which is still an unexplored theme.

The recent trend towards globalisation, with a tendency towards geographical distribution of manufacturing in distributed enterprises, has generally increased the complexity of transportation management. Other driving forces towards higher complexity in transportation logistics are the implementation of Just-In-Time principles, the explosion of Internet trade (including home shopping), a strengthening of environmental concerns, and the implementation of new legislation. Moreover, there is higher emphasis on customer service, timeliness, reactivity, and efficiency in the transportation function. We may safely conclude that there is a need for highly optimised transportation management practices at the strategic, tactical and operational control levels. Today, lack of planning and co-ordination is the cause of excess travel for commercial vehicles, with detrimental effects on economy and the environment. In distributed enterprises, these tasks (if supported at all) typically use isolated IT tools that cannot address the full problem, fail to address important constraints, cannot balance partially conflicting objectives, do not react to dynamics, and, cannot interact with the user in a timely and meaningful way. Recent advances in Information and Communication Technologies have enabled us to remedy these shortcomings. As a point in case, the GreenTrip Esprit project has developed a rapidly re-configurable, generic software tool for optimised transportation management. With GreenTrip as an illustration, this paper will describe state-of-the-art decision-support tools in transportation logistics, their underpinning technologies, and their possible impacts on business.
