The present research work proposes a mathematical model of thermal power plant to analyse its performance through reliability measures. Evaluation of reliability measure for thermal power plant is a complex process. The thermal power plant is modelled using Markov process and explored the reliability measures with supplementary variable technique. Also the expected profit to the operation and maintenance of the thermal power plant has been discussed. Failures exist in the thermal power plant affect the performance of the plant, so, to enhance the performance of the plant, authors employs fault coverage technique and demonstrated the effect of fault coverage and component failure on reliability measures graphically by taken some numerical examples for the practical utility.

Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) has a well deserved reputation for systematic and thorough evaluation of failures at the system, sub-system or component level in all manufacturing and processing sectors. These organizations are looking for the final product to be “safe and reliable”. FMEA helps designers to identify and eliminate/control dangerous failure modes, minimizing damage to the system and its users. This paper, as an extension to the prior research work, introduces an insight into the reasons of failure and its effects in a thermal power plant opted for the case study, based on conceptual designs in context of FMEA. The analysis takes into account preparation of appropriate diagnostic and maintenance procedures with the aim of enhancement of thermal plant reliability. The FMEA technique used may be helpful for the design and maintenance departments to curtail the downtime of the plant.

In India, most of the thermal power plants were built by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Ltd and different state electricity boards. The thumb rule indicates that out of the total project construction cost, 70 per cent goes to the cost of project materials, while 30 per cent goes to the cost construction work which leads us to select the most competitive material suppliers and construction contractors. The objectives of this research work are (a) to select a contractor based on cost economy, (b) to find out the standard critical path for constructing a thermal power plant, and (c) to identify the critical activities in constructing a 500 MW thermal power plant. Through literature review, six important factors were identified to judge the quality of the contractor before awarding the contract. In project management, the selection of contractor on the basis of probability of their performance comes within the purview of decision under risk, and hence decision tree has been used as a methodology for the selection of contractor. For computing the critical path, the project network for the construction of the thermal power plant was constructed. The five thermal power projects of NTPC—NTPC Korba, NTPC Talcher, NTPC Rihand, NTPC Sipat, and NTPC Simhadri—were considered, and the construction data of these five projects were used to compute the critical path. Since the completion data of different activities of five projects at different geographical locations with different climates, different site conditions, and different conglomerate of workers were used, so the critical path estimated was accepted as the standard critical path.

Effective maintenance and monitoring in high-risk industrial system play a very crucial role. Monitoring of a system involves how the system works and how its sub-units are connected to each other? The interconnection of the units in a system is very important for the performance of the system. In this paper, authors tried to examine the various performance measures of a Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) by taking in consideration its different sub-parts like control roads, turbine, steam generator, pump, uranium fuel, generator, etc., and their interconnection in the NPP, with the aid of Markov process and supplementary variable technique (SVT). This work begins by reviewing previously conducted studies for NPP. Finally, the results are demonstrated by the graphs to understand the effect of various failures on the performance of NPP.

To synthesize the surface of the metal bodies, a thermal spray coating is used. There is a great need for this new coating technology in today's progressive world where modification of the substrate material is carried out a great deal. Thermal spray covering, electroplating, powder metallurgy and other metallurgical processes are used very quickly in the field of surface modification. We have presented the summary of all different types of thermal spray coating in this review paper and the advantages of high-speed oxy fuel coating. There is a literature review and an experiment was conducted on behalf of that to demonstrate the effect of coating on mild steel plate. Through Robot, we present a proposed optimization of the spraying process in a thermal power plant. We will explore the thermal spraying and oxidation effect on deposited aluminium and bronze in this research work. We present a detailed assessment of the robot kinematics and optimize the generation of the robot trajectory with a focus on the constant relative scanning speed. The results show that the motion behavior of each axis of robot permits to identify the motion problems in the trajectory. This approach enables the generation of robot trajectories in a limited working envelope to be optimised.

In the present research work, Industrial effluents from a sugar industry, thermal power plant and a leather industry wastewater are collected in selected locations in Chennai region during January 2018 to December 2019. In the present research work, the following essential physico-chemical parameters such as colour, pH, electrical conductivity, TDS, TSS, TH, DO, BOD, COD and metals such as calcium and magnesium, anions of chloride, sulphate and nitrate was determined. In addition, selected heavy metals for instance Cu, Cd, Pb, Ni and Cr which are commonly found in the industrial wastewater is quantified for assessing the level of pollution load in the wastewater. In the present research work, the removal of heavy metal pollutants and the organic load was carried out using AIBC as adsorbent and the results indicates that, in sugar, thermal power plant and leather industry wastewater, the percent removal of Cu is 91.23, 90.32 and 81.12 and Cd is 92.34, 94.64 and 92.20, Pb is 93.64, 95.15 and 90.74, Ni is 90.59, 94.79 and 82.31 and Cr is 93.85, 92.38 and 84.95 respectively. In the present investigation, the use of biocarbon produced from the leaves of Lawsonia inermis and interfaced with alumina as support material was used as an effective, low-cost and inexpensive material for the removal of heavy metals Cu, Cd, Pb, Ni and Cr from selected industrial effluent for the treatment of wastewater.

Abstract Present paper considers nonlinear trend analysis for diagnostics and predictive maintenance. The subject is a device from Maritsa East 2 thermal power plant a mill fan. The choice of the given power plant is not occasional. This is the largest thermal power plant on the Balkan Peninsula. Mill fans are main part of the fuel preparation in the coal fired power plants. The possibility to predict eventual damages or wear out without switching off the device is significant for providing faultless and reliable work avoiding the losses caused by planned maintenance. This paper addresses the needs of the Maritsa East 2 Complex aiming to improve the ecological parameters of the electro energy production process.
