Rotating platform is one of the railway cranes key components, for the installation of crane jib, lifting mechanism, luffing mechanism and rotating mechanism. In order to guarantee the normal operation of the crane, the rotating platform should have enough stiffness and strength. Based on the finite element analysis software WORKBENCH, this paper takes a kind of 160t double rotary rescue railway crane as the research background, and completed the parametric modeling and structure analysis of the rotating platform including the flexible counterweight for the first time. Thus avoiding the errors brought by the equivalent weight before. And on this basis, through the finite element analysis software ANSYS, the thickness of various parts of the rotating platform was optimized. As a result, the weight of the rotary table has a significant reduction. This will provide a new method for the design of railway crane in the future.

In this paper, the sapphire crystal furnace is taken as the object of research. Based on the finite element analysis software ANSYS Workbench, static and modal analysis of the key parts of the crystal furnace are completed, the static and dynamic characteristics of the parts are studied, and the natural frequencies and the mode shapes of the key parts are obtained. According to the analysis of each mode type of the vibration, the weaknesses of the structure are identified, which provides theory reference for the structure optimization design of crystal furnace.

The finite element analysis of large air cooling tower was carried out using ABAQUS. On the basis of strength above,8 types of the axial force are analyzed and summarized, find valuable rules, and put forward the further optimization design. So that it can satisfy the strength and stability of air cooling tower, the structure is more reasonable, reduce weight, reduce the cost.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to realize the lightweight of connecting rod and meet the requirements of low energy consumption and vibration. Based on the structural design of the original connecting rod, the finite element analysis was conducted to reduce the weight and increase the natural frequencies, so as to reduce materials consumption and improve the energy efficiency of internal combustion engine. Design/methodology/approach The finite element analysis, structural optimization design and topology optimization of the connecting rod are applied. Efficient hybrid method is deployed: static and modal analysis; and structure re-design of the connecting rod based on topology optimization. Findings After the optimization of the connecting rod, the weight is reduced from 1.7907 to 1.4875 kg, with a reduction of 16.93%. The maximum equivalent stress of the optimized connecting rod is 183.97 MPa and that of the original structure is 217.18 MPa, with the reduction of 15.62%. The first, second and third natural frequencies of the optimized connecting rod are increased by 8.89%, 8.85% and 11.09%, respectively. Through the finite element analysis and based on the lightweight, the maximum equivalent stress is reduced and the low-order natural frequency is increased. Originality/value This paper presents an optimization method on the connecting rod structure. Based on the statics and modal analysis of the connecting rod and combined with the topology optimization, the size of the connecting rod is improved, and the static and dynamic characteristics of the optimized connecting rod are improved.

This paper has introduced the finite element analysis (FEA) into the ergonomic design to evaluate the human feelings numerically and objectively, and then into the optimization design of beverage containers considering human factors. In the design of the end of can (the lid of can), experiments and the FEA of indenting vertically the fingertip pulp by a probe and the tab of end have been done to observe force responses and to study feelings in the fingertip. A numerical simulation of finger lifting the tab for opening the can has also been performed, and discomfort in the fingertip has been evaluated numerically to present the finger-accessibility of the tab. The comparison of finger-accessibility between two kinds of tab ring shape designs showed that the tab that may have a larger contact area with the finger is better. In the design of beverage bottles served hot drinks, the FEA of tactile sensation of heat has been performed to evaluate numerically the touch feeling of the finger when holding the hot bottle. The numerical simulations of embossing process have also been performed to evaluate the formability of various rib-shape designs. The optimum design has then been done considering the hot touch feeling as well as the metal sheet formability.

According to uncertainty of the design parameters for large span truss of installing wave-maker, in order to avoid the waste of materials, the truss is analyzed based on the finite element analysis software ANSYS to find out its weaknesses and various parts of the deformation. On the premise of ensuring the intensity and stiffness, the weight of the truss is reduced by adjusting its sizes and selecting different profiles, so as to achieve the optimization of the truss of installing wave-maker.

In the traditional designs of milling cutter, we cannot get the required accuracy of machining as there may be local deformation on the edges, even more the cutter can break down. Aiming at this situation, a finite-element model of straight pin milling cutter with helical tooth are built using Marc, a nonlinear finite-element analysis software, the different cutting forces of the milling cutter during the cutting process are analyzed and the cutting forces of the milling cutter at different parameters are studied. We get the stress, the strain and the temperature distribution of the milling cutter in different situation. Our work offer a theoretical basis of improving stress of the cutter, designing the structure of cutters reasonably and analyzing the cutter failure as well as a new method of analysis and calculation of the cutter life and strength.

Based on the requirements of that the finger can move in parallel, and the displacement of the finger can be detected, the micro-gripper driven by piezoelectric actuator is designed based on the displacement amplification structure with the flexure hinge. The static analysis, the modal analysis, the harmonic response analysis and the transient response analysis of the micro-gripper are carried out by using the finite element analysis software ANSYS. The results of the finite element analysis show that the finger is fully able to move in parallel, and can detect the displacement of the finger; the maximum displacement of the finger is about 101 μm, the first natural frequency is about 130 Hz; the finger tip displacement under the 1 μm step input is about 20 μm, the fingertip vibration is about ±2 μm.
