The safe operation of power transformers mainly depends on proper functioning of insulation, whose status is revealed by temperatures. Applying ZigBee wireless network, a real-time temperature on-line monitoring and analysis system is developed to view the operation status of underground distribution transformers and process fault diagnosis. Furthermore, using the top-oil and hot-spot temperature calculation method in IEEE Std C57.91-1995, the system can compute a prediction of those temperatures with current load ratio and ambient temperature. System will display early warnings if temperatures are much higher than expected ones, in which way insulation aging can be handled in advance. Insulation fault and big disasters will be prevented.

The internal temperature of the transformer is a key parameter to measure the thermal state of the transformer. The service life of the transformer generally depends on the life of the insulating material, and high temperature is the main reason why cause insulation aging, this paper studies the temperature rise of transformer winding hot spot temperature for the key, using the neural network forecasting method, forecasts transformer winding hot spot temperature change rule, calculate the transformer internal temperature rise, provide the temperature of the scientific basis for the safe operation of the transformer.

In order to realizing real-time on-line oil monitoring for high-power gearbox’s wear state during operation, a monitoring system is developed on the basis of the ferrograph sensors in this paper. By means of a multi-level monitoring system, a real-time remote monitoring and analysis system of unattended machine wear condition is achieved which can real-time display the image of the wear particles and the wear information of the gears, thus getting such advantages as timely notice and warning, reducing equipment’s damage and maintenance costs . The initial application of system on the real machine shows good results and effects.

Hot spot temperature (HST) is the most important parameter in the operation of power transformers. The HST has to be held under a prescribed limit. HST has a considerable effect on the insulation aging. Therefore detecting, monitoring and removing the HST could be a very important and necessary action for utilities. A new design of oil spraying and its effect, along with a thermal management in a transformer cooling system has been studied in this paper. The effect of oil fluid flow on the HST problem has been considered in this paper; and the calculations and simulation have been performed by Ants algorithm. The simulation results have been validated based on a 230/63/20 kV, 250MVA transformer at the Sari substation in Iran, and the results indicate that the new design could mitigate the limitations of transformer loading due to the HST problem. The Ants algorithm have been proposed and applied for accomplishing this task and to give an improved level of accuracy.
