The relative positional relationship between the stay vanes and guide vanes is researched to analyze the impact on the hydraulic performance of the Turbine based on N-S equations and RNG k-ε turbulence model under the conditions of sandy water with the numerical simulation method. There are main five kinds of the relative positional relationship between the dual cascades is used to analyse the trends of the distribution about the pressure and velocity. The relative circumferential positions between the dual cascades have obviously effect on the flow verified. And the velocity vector and the pressure distribution on the surface of the guide vanes are studied further. The results show that energy performance is best if little circumferential position differences between the dual cascades in two typical conditions. However, the distribution about the pressure and velocity is uneven on the active surface of guide vanes, exacerbating the local abrasion of the vanes.

To explore the screw centrifugal pump performance change, and the impact of solid-liquid two-phase flow on the screw centrifugal pump, the internal flow of type 150×100LN-32 centrifugal pump is used as the research object. Mixture multiphase flow model, standard k-ε turbulence model and the sliding mesh technique are used to carry out the unsteady numerical simulation to describe internal flow field in screw centrifugal pump. By Setting the monitoring point to get the pressure pulsation characteristics and predict the changes in the energy performance. Open laboratory bench tests are carried out to verify the reliability of the numerical methods. Based on this, the impact of the two-phase flow on the screw centrifugal pump is analyzed. The results indicate that the head-flow curve presents a hump-shaped with the increasing of the flow. The maximum of efficiency appears. At the same time, the change of the volume concentration of the solid phase has little effect on the energy performance of screw centrifugal pump. But at different times, the head decreases and the power increases with the increasing of the concentration.

The liquid phase experiment is finished ,and the relation curve of input- pressure and input-flow、output-flow、distributary rate are worked out.We are bout to calculate the production capacity and define the best distribution rate of the operation parameters. At the same time , the solid-liquid phase separating experiment are made too and we conclude the relation curve of input-pressure and consistency 、separating efficiency .Comparing with the numerical simulation ,the result is reasonable.

The fractures after artificial steering fracturing appear in shades of curved surface. Aiming at the problem of steering fracture, in the paper, numerical simulation method under the condition of three-dimensional two-phase flow is presented based on finite element method. In this method, of steering fracture was achieved by adopting surface elements fractures and tetrahedron elements to describe formation. By numerical simulation, the change rule of oil and water production performance of steering fractures can be calculated, and then the steering fracture parameters can be optimized before fracturing. A new method was supplied for the numerical simulation of artificial fractured well.

Purpose The study aims to decrease the effect of solid particles on a butterfly valve, which will cause seal failure and leakage, providing a reference for anti-wear design. Design/methodology/approach In this paper, computational fluid dynamics discrete element method (CFD-DEM) simulation was conducted to study the solid–liquid two-phase flow characteristics and erosion characteristics of a butterfly valve with a different opening. Findings Abrasion at 10% opening is affected by high-speed jets in upper and lower parts of the pipeline, where the erosion is intense. The impact of the jet on the upper part of 20% opening begins to weaken. With the top backflow vortex disappearing, the effect of lower jet is enhanced. Meanwhile, the bottom backflow vortex phenomenon is obvious, and the abrasion position moves downward. At 30% opening, the velocity is further weakened, and the circulation effect of lower flow channel is more obvious than that of the upper one. Originality/value It is the first time to use DEM to investigate the two-phase flow and erosion characteristics at a small opening of a butterfly valve, considering the effect of inter-particle collision. Therefore, this study carries on the thorough analysis and discussion. At the same opening degree, with increasing of the particle size, the abrasion of valve frontal surface increases when the size is less than 150 µm and decreases when it is greater than 150 µm. For the valve backflow surface, this boundary value becomes 200 µm. Peer review The peer review history for this article is available at: https://publons.com/publon/10.1108/ILT-07-2020-0264/

Forced convective flow boiling in a single microchannel with different channel heights was studied through a numerical simulation method to investigate bubble dynamics, two-phase flow patterns, and boiling heat transfer. The momentum and energy equations were solved using a finite volume (FV) numerical method, while the liquid–vapor interface of a bubble is captured using the volume of fluid (VOF) technique. The effects of different constant wall heat fluxes and different channel heights on the boiling mechanisms were investigated. The effects of liquid velocity on the bubble departure diameter were also analyzed. The predicted bubble shapes and distribution profiles together with two-phase flow patterns are also provided.
