Rotational Speed Sensors are typically used to measure rotational speed in automotive application such as ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), ASR (Anti Slip Regulation) or Gear Box. In terms of application area, rotational speed sensors transmit very important signal from gear wheel to ECU (Electronic Control Units). The output signal of rotational speed sensor (RSS) may not provide exact solution in high speed situation because RSS is a kind of inductive sensor which has discharge and charge time. Thus, response time of RSS may lead a problem for exact speed measurement while the output signal is settling. In this study to evaluate different flux surfaces, both low speed @0.8RPM and high speed @3992 RPM, 6 experiments were performed for normal, convex and concave teeth setups. It has been seen that the output signal form of convex teeth setup is more appropriate than normal teeth setup and concave teeth setup for sinus signal.

In this paper the system architecture of the vehicular monitoring system based on high speed CAN bus and low speed CAN Bus and SAE J1939 so as to share information between different ECUs (Electronic Control Units) has been designed. Using Visual C++ 6.0, vehicular monitoring software platform has been developed to realize vehicular runtime parameters monitoring, device controllers monitoring and malfunction monitoring. Also a case study has been given, and the results of the system application are reasonable.

Today’s vehicles have become increasingly complex, as consumers demand more features and better quality in their cars. Most of these new features require additional electronic control units (ECU) and software control, constantly pushing back the limits of existing architectures and design methodologies. Indeed, modern automobiles have a larger number of critical time functions distributed and running simultaneously on each ECU. Data Distribution Service (DDS) is a publish/subscribe middleware specified by the international consortium Object Management Group (OMG), which makes the information available in real time, while offering a rich range of quality of service (QoS) policies. In this paper, we propose a new methodology to integrate DDS in automotive application. We evaluate the performance of our new design by testing the fulfillment of real time QoS requirements. We also compare the performance of the vehicle application when using FlexRay and Ethernet networks. Computations prove that the use of DDS over Gigabit Ethernet (GBE) is promising in the automotive field.

Combining with rotational speed measurement methods and underwater environment particularity, an independent velocity measurement scheme applicable to small underwater high-speed moving body was proposed in this paper. The structural design of the measurement device was designed and signal process method was improved, and the relationship between turbine rotational speed and speed of the body was obtained by FLUNET dynamics simulation and water tunnel experiments. Finally, the simulation and experimental results were analyzed. The results show that this method is effective and feasible within a certain range of accuracy.

The retarder braking system of an electric drive dump truck is introduced in this paper. When the truck is going downhill at a low speed, part of the braking energy is consumed by braking resistance system, other energy is changed into AC power by inverter module, the diesel engine is dragged from an idling speed to a high speed by the synchronous motor, energy feedback is realized. In this paper, to achieve synchronous motor starting, a zero crossing detection and frequency searching method based on rotor speed sensor is used,.The experiment shows the engine is started steadily and the current shock becomes flat.

To develop automobiles that fulfill the criteria of “environment-friendliness” “advanced safety”, and“riding comfort”, coordination between ECUs (electronic control units) is indispensable. Since one or a number of functions is carried by the coordination of separate ECUs, it is important to standardize automotive LAN protocols to ensure reliable interoperability. In parallel with standardization, conformance test specifications for the protocols have played an increasingly important role in securing the interoperability of the complex LAN bus system. The present chapter, whose purpose is to examine the international collaborative framework which has been established between European and Japanese consortia since 2006 for the standardization of the automotive LAN protocol known as “FlexRay”, will focus on the contribution of the Japanese standard consortium to the drafting of the original conformance test specifications. The FlexRay protocol is expected to become the de facto standard in the automotive high-speed safety protocol market.
