Creating a special Web software application that will present the library services and resources requires special skills in the field of Web technologies. The developed Web application allows quick access to important information about the library since it requires only a few taps on the touch screen to access and view the desired information. The software is intended to enhance user real time access to information regarding the library’s newest book acquisitions, databases free trial, events.

This chapter explores using service-oriented computing to reengineer non-secure legacy software applications to create new secure target applications. Two objectives of this chapter are: (1) to analyze the architectural changes required in order to adopt new web technologies and cope with resultant vulnerabilities in source code; and (2) to measure the level of effort required to modernize software by adopting new web technologies and adding security countermeasures. To meet these objectives, a model-driven Scrum for Service-Oriented Software Reengineering (mScrum4SOSR) methodology was chosen and applied to a reengineering project. Scrum is employed to manage the reengineering project, as well as to measure implementation effort related to the modernization process. Further, a re-documentation technique called 5W1H Re-Doc is used to re-document the non-secure software application at a high level of abstraction in order to help project participants comprehend what is needed to identify candidate services for service-oriented reengineering. Case studies with and without security features are created for different types of applications - a desktop graphical user interface, a web application, a web services application, a restful web services application, and an enterprise service bus application.

Abstract Background One of the main advantages of the Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT) is the possibility of real-time sequencing. This gives access to information during the experiment and allows either to control the sequencing or to stop the sequencing once the results have been obtained. However, the ONT sequencing interface is not sufficient to explore the quality of sequencing data in depth and existing quality control tools do not take full advantage of real-time data streaming. Results Herein, we present BoardION, an interactive web application to analyze the efficiency of ONT sequencing runs. The interactive interface of BoardION allows users to easily explore sequencing metrics and optimize the quantity and the quality of the data generated during the experiment. It also enables the comparison of multiple flowcells to assess library preparation protocols or the quality of input samples. Conclusion BoardION is dedicated to people who manage ONT sequencing instruments and allows them to remotely and in real time monitor their experiments and compare multiple sequencing runs. The goal of the paper starts from the need for real-time monitoring of both running water and its affluents and urban sewerage systems with a role in discharging wastewater. The idea is to assess water quality and to determine the sources of pollutants resulting from human activity. The data quality will be obtained by purchasing them with a high resolution, both spatial and temporal, using multi-parametric sensors on a hardware platform of its own multisensory acquisition. The acquired data is stored in CLOUD or local server for storage, analysis and interpretation. There will be a software application based on artificial intelligence technologies that serves to identify and classify different polluted areas, locate pollution sources, predict their extinction, degree of pollution and help make decisions based on real-time detection. A web application will provide all the data collected in the field and it can be accessed on a common online platform. This allows researchers or employees of relevant agencies as well as city sewer system operators to validate the quality of data purchased from sensors and end users to be sure of their correctness.

AbstractForecasting has emerged as an important component of informed, data-driven decision-making in a wide array of fields. We introduce a new data model for probabilistic predictions that encompasses a wide range of forecasting settings. This framework clearly defines the constituent parts of a probabilistic forecast and proposes one approach for representing these data elements. The data model is implemented in Zoltar, a new software application that stores forecasts using the data model and provides standardized API access to the data. In one real-time case study, an instance of the Zoltar web application was used to store, provide access to, and evaluate real-time forecast data on the order of 108rows, provided by over 40 international research teams from academia and industry making forecasts of the COVID-19 outbreak in the US. Tools and data infrastructure for probabilistic forecasts, such as those introduced here, will play an increasingly important role in ensuring that future forecasting research adheres to a strict set of rigorous and reproducible standards.

With the mounting demand of web applications, a number of issues allied to its quality have came in existence. In the meadow of web applications, it is very thorny to develop high quality web applications. A design pattern is a general repeatable solution to a generally stirring problem in software design. It should be noted that design pattern is not a finished product that can be directly transformed into source code. Rather design pattern is a depiction or template that describes how to find solution of a problem that can be used in many different situations. Past research has shown that design patterns greatly improved the execution speed of a software application. Design pattern are classified as creational design patterns, structural design pattern, behavioral design pattern, etc. MVC design pattern is very productive for architecting interactive software systems and web applications. This design pattern is partition-independent, because it is expressed in terms of an interactive application running in a single address space. We will design and analyze an algorithm by using MVC approach to improve the performance of web based application. The objective of our study will be to reduce one of the major object oriented features i.e. coupling between model and view segments of web based application. The implementation for the same will be done in by using .NET framework.

This paper investigates the University of Zululand Library’s response to the university’s inclusive education agenda with respect to the accessibility of library services to students with disabilities. This was a qualitative study within the interpretive paradigm that used Michael Oliver’s social model of disability as an underpinning theory. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from students with disabilities and library staff. In addition, physical inspection of the library building was also conducted. Data analysis was done by thematic analysis. The study reveals that the University of Zululand Library services are not inclusive. Students with disabilities struggle to access library services. They faced such challenges as inaccessibility of library services, unavailability of resources in alternative formats and assistive technologies, and the lack of a disability policy. The study also found that the library faced the following challenges in providing services for students with disabilities: limited funding, a lack of staff awareness and training, the lack of a disability policy and a lack of collaboration. Formulating regulations to enforce the implementation of disability policy and legislation, developing institutional disability policies, and providing assistive technologies are critical in ensuring the accessibility of library services to students with disabilities at the University of Zululand. Unless students with disabilities have equal access to information, the university’s inclusive education agenda will remain a distant dream. Access to academic library services is critical to the full participation of students with disabilities in education. Likewise, inclusive university education can only be realised when students with disabilities have equal access to information. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations Convention on the Rights for Persons with Disabilities, which promote equal access to services and facilities to persons with disabilities. This paper raises awareness for both library staff and university management about the current status of library facilities and services with respect to accessibility for students with disabilities and how to address inclusiveness in library service provision.

The article discusses the decision of some problems connected with the distribution of increased state academic scholarships, such as: late submission of documents, lengthy processing of applications, the paper version of the filing documents that complicate the process of submission and consideration of applications and documents into a higher state academic scholarship, thereby increasing the burden on the members of the scholarship Commission and directorates of the institutions.The aim of this work is to find ways to improve the efficiency and accessibility of this process through an information system that will allow you to submit achievements for authentication and applications for an increased state academic scholarship online, track your position in the ranking in real time, view the achievements of other students directly from the rating system.Information system design is implemented using a new stack of information design and development approaches. The article pays special attention to the design of the database and the interface part of the application. The article presents a working web application “administration of the achievement accounting system”.

“Biblioteche nelle Scuole” (in brief, “Biblioscuole”, i.e. Libraries at Schools), a three year school library pilot project, has been carrying out since 2004 in Italy to improve school librarians competencies and school library services in order to provide an easy access to information for teachers, pupils and their families, and to promote social inclusion. The Project and some reflections - based on learners’ interaction - about the first part of the education and training course, are presented here.
