In order to understand the contact condition of longitudinal joint of gravity dam and its influence on dam body stress, taking a concrete gravity dam section as the research object, the numerical simulations with 3D nonlinear FEM is carried out through the simulating of the construction period, the grouting process and the operation period. It shows that the opening of the longitudinal joint varies with many kinds of factors, such as the year temperature, water cooling, water load on the upstream surface, the construction process and so on. Under the present condition, secondary grouting to the longitudinal joint may not be carried temporarily. The computation results are basically in agreement with the prototype monitoring data.

Under the action of annual change and sudden drop of air temperature, thermal induced cracking will occur in concrete dam during the operation period. For exploring the temperature control measures for crack prevention, taking a concrete gravity dam section as the research object, sensitivity analyses to the factors which affecting the water-cooling effect are conducted with 3D FEM, some significant suggestions for the water cooling are presented. The results show that, the stresses of the dam surface will decrease to a certain extent after water cooling in the operation period using the cooling water pipe which embedded during construction period, and the cracking risk of the dam will reduce. The study provides a new train of thought for the temperature control and crack prevention of the mass concrete during the operation period.

Before and after pouring the concrete for a dam, how to predict and obtain the accurate temperature and stress of the various parts of the dam, is the key to prevent cracks in concrete. The stresses calculated from the parameters of the laboratory under the ideal conditions have obvious difference with the value calculated from site measured strain. As for such problem, based on the measured temperature and strain data of rolled compact concrete gravity dam engineering, the thermal and mechanics parameters of the concrete materials are inversed. The dam stress of construction period is simulated and analyzed separately based on the site parameters and lab parameters. The results show that although the stress development law from different ways is near, their values are different obviously because of three aspects. The site measured values should be more real. So it is necessary to inverse the thermal and mechanics parameters according to the site measured data.

Xi Ying sluice built in Xishi River, Changzhou City, is a single span sluice with width of 6m. The chamber is pier wall structure of depressed reinforced concrete floor, when the chamber had a filling and discharging water during construction period, we found that the chamber appeared large uneven subsidence. According to the design, construction and other specific circumstances of Xi Ying sluice, by using three-dimensional finite element method to calculate and analyzed the settlement of the sluice, we studied on the genesis of the uneven settlement and predicted the settlement after the running. Analysis shows that the chamber of the uneven settlement is due to the jacking effect of concrete pile. The settlement has been basically completed caused by chamber weight, there will not be a substantial settlement; In the case of blocking water during operation period, chamber’s settlement increment outside the river side and inside the river side are respectively 0.3mm and 0.4mm; through processing, the settlement of chamber won’t affect the normal operation of sluice.

According to the Zhonghang construction project characteristics in Huidong county of Guangdong, the possible effects of pollution occurred in the development project construction period and the operation period have been respectively elaborated here. The dust occurred on construction period, waste water pollution of the operation period, and the adverse effects schemehis have been analyzed in the paper. Some concrete measurements for Zhonghang in satisfy human living project been put out.
