Abstract As one of Indonesian city that emerged from the industrial sector, Balikpapan grew and was inhabited by transmigrates from various cultures. The development and growth patterns of the Balikpapan urban area was influenced by the culture of the residents, due to the absence of empire influence or colonialism. This research was conducted to identify the oldest area as a starting point of the urban development patterns of Balikpapan. The building-age profile method was used to identify the oldest building groups or blocks, which belong to the city’s heritage zone. In this analysis, a series of figure-ground images in several periods were collected to indicate the building age. Through the process of overlaying solid-void maps, the pattern of space-built interaction was generated as the patterns of urban development. Results shown that urban development, which was determined through overlay technique, was organic pattern, which was formed by several connected irregular shapes. The conservation of the urban pattern indicates the effort to achieve urban identity, as one of the sustainable urban form indicator.

Abstract An Orthodox church as a building expresses the Eastern Orthodox spirituality - all the details and general aspects have a deep and philosophical meaning. The architecture, being an illustration of the character of the Orthodox Church liturgy, has become a natural component of the cultural landscape of Poland and Eastern Europe. Acoustic research into Orthodox churches has so far been marginalized. Up to now, only a few churches of this type have been studied. The article is a review of the acoustic environment of churches in Poland. Churches, differing in terms of size, architectural style and other quantities, were chosen and acoustic measurements were made. The results of the measurements have been analyzed and collated. In particular, a detailed analysis and comparison was made for reverberation time as a function of frequency, due to the largest differences in this parameter between the rooms.

At present, the area of urban built-up areas in Shanghai has been effectively controlled, and the once neglected rural landscape has attracted much attention. This study focuses on the methodology of effectively utilizing cultural landscape resources and promoting further harmonious development of urban-rural relations in Shanghai. As a category of cultural heritage, cultural landscape is an indispensable resource for urban development. During the process of urban and rural planning, local cultural landscapes need to be regarded as the driving source of urban development. This study examines features of cultural landscapes in Shanghai and puts forward several issues in the conservation and sustainable development of cultural landscape resources, so as to provide the basis for heritage protection, urban and rural planning and tourism planning in Shanghai in the future.

ABSTRACT:Belfast, with its history of communal violence, is normally seen as lying outside the mainstream of nineteenth-century British urban development. The queen's visit, however, reveals a community characterized by much the same mixture of civic pride and diffidence that characterized other provincial centres. The episode also casts light on the ambivalent attitude of the British and Irish political establishments to the new industrial town, and on Belfast's ambiguous position within the Irish urban hierarchy.

Typical for the last decades economical and social processes at metropolitan level induce new models of spatial organization characterized by extensive urban development. These extensive processes configure various components of the cultural landscape in different ways. Such development modifies the rural, agricultural and industrial landscapes and generates new landscape typologies modeled by interaction between urban and rural space. Diverse approaches of urban development have modified the territorial structure and also the way in which the territory visually and dynamically responds to external factors by transforming the main cultural features. In such a context, preservation of common agricultural landscape as a part of cultural landscape is becoming an important issue for the local development policies. Santrauka Pastaraisiais dešimtmečiais didmiesčiuose vykstantys ekonominiai ir socialiniai procesai skatina naujus erdvių planavimo modelius, būdingus ekstensyviai urbanistinei plėtrai.
