This paper describes an automation welding control system for Tungsten inert gas shielded (TIG) welding to maintain constant arc length. And using this method can replace manual operation. A voltage transducer was used to avoid high-frequency voltage. And dynamic relation between variation of arc length and voltage are described. A digital Proportion-Integration-Differentiation (PID) controller with identified value has been used modulate the rate of electrode feed mechanism. The mechanism, which driven by Servomotor A, can compensated variation of arc length in welding path. By keeping the arc length constant during the welding process, an elegant appearance and higher quality seam is obtained. The experiment result shows that this automatic control system based on digital PID controller is stable, and can working effectively without operator manipulation.

Abstract The paper deals with an analysis of automatic control system with continuous and discrete PID controllers. A method of tuning the parameters of the continuous controller is presented, which is optimal according to the ITAE criterion. The behavior of control systems with discrete controllers whose parameters were tuned using the mentioned method are described. The impact of changes in the sampling period of controlled signal on the control quality is shown. Changes of the values of optimal parameters of discrete PID controllers in relation to changes of the sampling rate of controlled signal are characterized.

Designed a positioning, welding and reset automatic control system based on stepping motor, PLC, touch screen. Welding torch is positioned through the photoelectric switch. PLC controls stepping motor running and welding torch starting arc and ending arc. Communication between the touch screen and PLC improves the efficiency of the system and achieves the girth automation welding process.
