The effects of ethylene vinyl acetate grafting maleic anhydride (EVA-g-MAH )as a compatilizer on the mechanical properties, compatibility and morphological structure of thermoplastic Polyurethane and poly(vinyl chloride) blends were studied. The blends were prepared and characterized by mechanics properties test, scanning electron microscopy(SEM,)dynamic mechanical properties (DMA) and thermogravimetry(TG) . Mechanical properties indicate that the hardness, tensile strength, breaking elongation of the blends are greatly improved by EVA-g-MAH, when the critical EVA-g-MAH content at about 4 wt%.SEM micrographs reveal that EVA-g-MAH could bring down the diameter of dispersed , change brittle fracture into ductile fracture, and promote adhesion of phase interface. The glass transition temperature change by DMA proves that the addition of the EVA-g-MAH improved the compatibilization of blends. And the results of TG experiment show that EVA-g-MAH greatly improve the thermal stability of the blends.

Polylactic acid (PLA) is one of the most suitable materials for 3D printing. Blending with nanoparticles improves some of its properties, broadening its application possibilities. The article presents a study of composite PLA matrix filaments with added unmodified and lignin/polymerised lignin surface-modified nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC). The influence of untreated and surface-modified NFC on morphological, mechanical, technological, infrared spectroscopic, and dynamic mechanical properties was evaluated for different groups of samples. As determined by the stereo and scanning electron microscopy, the unmodified and surface-modified NFCs with lignin and polymerised lignin were present in the form of plate-shaped agglomerates. The addition of NFC slightly reduced the filaments’ tensile strength, stretchability, and ability to absorb energy, while in contrast, the initial modulus slightly improved. By adding NFC to the PLA matrix, the bending storage modulus (E’) decreased slightly at lower temperatures, especially in the PLA samples with 3 wt% and 5 wt% NFC. When NFC was modified with lignin and polymerised lignin, an increase in E’ was noticed, especially in the glassy state.

Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPU) and long glass fiber (LGF) were used to prepare LGF/TPU master batch for increasing the mechanical properties and heat resistance of PVC. It turned out that addition of LGF/TPU contributed to improvement in toughness of PVC but the heat resistance of PVC didn’t increase very evidently. The heat resistance and morphology were observed by vicat test and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) proved that incorporation of LGF/TPU into PVC changed the morphology of the composites and correlated well with the mechanical properties. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) showed that both the glass transition temperature and the storage modulus of PVC increased with the addition of LGF/TPU master batch; the presence of a single Tg indicated that each component of composites was miscible. In this study, the combination properties of the composites with 24wt% LGF was the best proportion in the range of 0-30 phr LGF, because it had the best mechanical properties and heat resistance.

Mechanical properties, abrasion properties, thermal stabilities, and dynamic mechanical properties of poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC)/diatomite composites with different diatomite content prepared by melting blending were investigated. The results indicated that mechanical properties of composites have different performance due to diatomite participation, and the flexural modulus was improved. With an increase in diatomite, the abrasion resistance and thermal stability of composites were improved. Furthermore, the E' and Tg of composites could be enhanced effectively with diatomite participation. The optimum combined properties of PVC/diatomite composite were obtained with the adding of 40 phr diatomite.

AbstractA series of long glass fiber (LGF)-reinforced epoxy resin (ER), thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) elastomers, and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) composites were prepared by using self-designed impregnation device. Dynamic mechanical properties of the LGF/ER/TPU/PMMA composites have been investigated by using dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMA). The results indicated that the content of PMMA and TPU and scanning frequency had important influence on dynamic mechanical properties and glass transition of the LGF/ER/TPU/PMMA composites. In addition, the Arrhenius relationship has been used to calculate the activation energy of α-transition of the LGF/ER/TPU/PMMA composites. The thermal properties of the LGF/ER/TPU/PMMA composites were studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Morphology and mechanical properties of the composites are investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), a universal testing machine, and a ZBC-4 Impact Pendulum.

Abstract The compatibilizing effect of three kinds of poly(styrene-co-glycidyl methacrylate) (SGMA) in a modified poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (MPPO)/poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) blend was studied based on the morphology observed by scanning electron microscopy, dynamic mechanical properties, rheological properties, and mechanical properties. When the content of SGMA in the blend was fixed at 3 phr, the compatibilizing effect of SGMA increased as the GMA content in SGMA was increased. When the content of the reactive GMA monomeric unit in the blend was fixed at 0.37 phr, SGMA containing 4 mol% of GMA unit was most effective for compatibilization among three kinds of SGMAs.

Crosslink of recycled polypropylene with polyaniline (rPP-PANI) have been prepared via ultrasound extrusion. The concentration of PANI used in the research was varied from 0 to 10 wt% and that of dicumyl peroxide (DCP) was fixed in 1 phr loading of PANI. To examine the morphological structure of the blends, fill emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) was conducted. The increasing loading of polyaniline (PANI) has promoted a slight improvement in both elastic modulus and tensile strength at 4 wt% and impact strength at 10 wt%. However elongation at break showed a decrease at all PANI loadings. The FESEM micrograph confirmed good dispersion of nano-PANI on rPP matrix to form crosslinking between rPP matrix and PANI.

This research is to study the properties of pineapple leaf fiber reinforced polycarbonate composites (PC/PALF). Surface of pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) was pre-treated with sodium hydroxide (PALF/NaOH) and modified with two different functionalities such as γ-aminopropyl trimethoxy silane (PALF/Z-6011) and γ-methacryloxy propyl trimethoxy silane (PALF/Z-6030). The effects of PALF content and chemical treatment were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy and mechanical testing. The modified pineapple leaf fibers composite also produces enhanced mechanical properties. Young’s modulus is highest in the case of the PALF/NaOH composites. The PALF/Z-6011 composites showed highest tensile strength and impact strength. In thermal property, the results from Thermogravimetric analysis showed that thermal stability of the composites is lower than that of neat polycarbonate resin and thermal stability decreased with increasing pineapple leaf fiber content.

The blends of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) were prepared by means of blending. The mechanical properties of EVA/TPU blends and thermal stability of the extrudates were investigated. The results show that the toughness of EVA/TPU has been improved after adding TPU into EVA, and doesn’t affect the thermal stability of material.
