Spray distribution uniformity is a very important performance of nozzle. This paper analyses the spray uniformity of the spraying machinery as well as the influence factors. Spray distribution coefficient of variation of nozzles varies with the different spray pressure, spray pressure and spacing. The nozzles of lechler ST made in German were tested to present the optimum spray height with different spray pressure and spray spacing through analyzing the trend of coefficient of variation varying with the different spray pressure, spray height and spray spacing. By the test, the greatest impact on spray uniformity is the pressure of the spray bar, followed by the height and the spacing of the spray bar. By analysis of the spray distribution coefficient of variation, we find the optimum combination of the spray pressure, spray height and spray spacing.

ABSTRACT Manual backpack sprayers are widely used in rural properties in Brazil. However, studies that assess their working characteristics, especially spray tip models and working pressure conditions, are scarce. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess how much the working pressure and spray tips influence the distribution quality of phytosanitary spray solutions in manual backpack sprayers. Four spray nozzles (standard flat-fan Magnojet TP11002, turbo flat-fan TeeJet TT11002, hollow-cone TeeJet TXA8002, and disc-core) were assessed in a patternator table at 1, 2, 3, and 4 bar. Analyses of spray distribution profile were performed by symmetry and the coefficient of variation (CV) analysed by the Tukey’s test (p < 0.05). Spray tip models and working pressure influenced in more than 100% the distribution uniformity values of spray solution and in about 50% the useful range of the phytosanitary treatment. Among the models assessed in this study, the turbo flat-fan spray nozzle presents the best set of characteristics to be indicated for manual backpack sprayers aiming at field phytosanitary treatments.

When the loss of life and property is considered, it is clear that special precautions must be taken against the earthquakes among the natural disasters. Post-earthquake observations, especially those made in the developing countries, reveal that there are many reasons for the damage and loss of life, not just one. The formation of soft storey irregularity is one of the most important factors among them. In this study, it is aimed to propose an alternative strengthening method to eliminate the adverse effects of the formation of a soft storey irregularity. Four identical frames with two stories and single span were constructed and tested under reverse cyclic loading which simulates the earthquake. The first frame among them was prepared by bonding bricks as an infill wall on two stories and it was considered to be the reference frame. In the 2nd frame, the formation of soft storey irregularity was facilitated by removing the infill wall on the lower story and the behavioral differences were examined. The remaining two frames were strengthened by using steel elements in two different diagonal shapes on the lower story. As a result, the experimental study showed that the strengthening with steel diagonal elements increased the lateral load-carrying capacity of the frame with soft storey behavior by 250% and the energy dissipation by 120% and also provided better results than the reference frame.

The force of ship is one of the main loads which High-Piled Wharf bears, the assignation of transverse component on each bent is the precondition of the calculation which simplified the wharf structure into plane bent. The taking value of transverse component on bent influences a lot on the result of structure calculation. Nowadays, the design of High-Piled Wharf uses the value from the distribution coefficient in the Design and Construction Code of High –Piled Wharf. The results show that the distribution coefficient taken in the code is under the precondition that considering the beam is rigid; the relative stiffness of beam and pile can influence this distribution coefficient. Considering the flexibility of the beam, the distribution coefficient of the horizontal concentrated force on transverse bents will change.
