Corrosion and scaling are the common problems to all the industries. A remedy of these problems was sought out through chemical treatment: indigenously available raw materials including thiourea, surfactants (cationic, anionic and nonionic containing pre, critical and post micellar concentration). Evaluation of corrosion inhibition properties stainless steel 316 by thiourea based inhibitor and its synergistic effect with cationic cetyl tri-methyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), anionic sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and nonionic triton X-100 have been carried out by weight loss method as a function of concentration of thiourea and surfactants. These materials were applied to the coupons of stainless steel 316 in different acidic concentration. Corrosion rates were calculated using weight loss method. Excellent results were achieved regarding corrosion inhibition in the presence of thiourea and surfactants assuring the better performance of these chemicals. The results showed that corrosion rate was decreased from 90 mpy to 12.1 mpy after 720 hours by the addition of 200ppm thiourea in critical micellar concentration of SDS in 3M HCl acid solution.

The synergistic effect of halide ions such as KCl, KBr and KI on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 N sulphuric acid by [Formula: see text]-2,c-6-diphenyl-t-3-methyl piperdin-4-ones with semicarbazone (01[Formula: see text]SC), [Formula: see text]-2,c-6-diphenyl-N-methyl-t-3-ethyl piperdin-4-ones with semicarbazone (02[Formula: see text]SC) and 2,6-diphenyl-t-3-ethyl piperdin-4-one with semicarbazone (03[Formula: see text]SC) has been examined by weight loss method, potentiodynamic polarization measurements and electrochemical AC impedance spectroscopy. Results show that substituted [Formula: see text]-2,c-6-diphenyl piperidin-4-ones with semicarbazone act as the perfect corrosion inhibitors and their inhibition efficiency increases with the addition of halide ions. The inhibitor (01[Formula: see text]SC) shows the inhibition efficiency of 78.28% (0.2[Formula: see text]mM) by using a weight loss method. The influence of I[Formula: see text], Br[Formula: see text] and Cl[Formula: see text] anions raises the inhibition efficiency of the substituted 2,6-diphenyl piperidin-4-ones with semicarbazone due to the synergistic effect. The synergistic effect of halide ions was formed in the following order: KI [Formula: see text] KBr [Formula: see text] KCl.

In this corrosion test, simulated brine is used as corrosion medium, added different concentrations of aloe juice. Static weight-loss method is employed, meanwhile, we calculated corrosion rate of Q235 steel and researched on the corrosion inhibition effect of aloe in different temperatures. Results show that aloe is a good inhibitor, rate of corrosion inhibition can reach 80% or more and suitable for the temperature of work environment is less than 60 °C.

The inhibition of corrosion of stainless steel (SS)-410 in sulfuric acid using thiourea and three different surfactants, cetyle trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and X-Triton was studied. Corrosion rates were determined by using corrosion coupons. The corrosion rate was found to be decreased with increase in inhibitor concentration. It was observed that the maximum corrosion inhibition occurred in the post micellar concentration of the surfactants. By optimizing the corrosion inhibition performance of different blends of surfactants and thiourea in 3 M H2SO4,the corrosion inhibition order was found as: Triton X-100 + thiourea > CTAB + thiourea > SDS + thiourea. The best results obtained by the addition of 200 ppm thiourea in 500 ppm of Triton X-100 in 3 M H2SO4acid solution. This blend decreased the corrosion rate of SS-410 to 657.66 mpy.

The inhibition of corrosion of mild steel usingPiper nigrumL in different acid medium by weight loss method was investigated. The corrosion inhibition was studied in hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid by weight loss method at different time interval at room temperature. The result showed that the corrosion inhibition efficiency of this compound was found to vary with different time interval and different acid concentration. Also, it was found that the corrosion inhibition behavior ofPiper nigrumL is greater in sulphuric acid than hydrochloric acid. So,Piper nigrumL can be used as a good inhibitor for preventing mild steel material.

The effects of concentration and temperature of hydrochloric acid and etching time on the corrosion rates of 434 stainless steel fibres are investigated by using weight loss method,The results show that with the concentration of hydrochloric acid increase, the temperature of hydrochloric acid rise, etching time prolonging, the corrosion rate of 434 stainless steel fibres is increased, and the corrosion rate of smalldimension of 434 stainless steel fibres faster.Though Cl- of hydrochloric acid doesn’t take direct part in the reaction, the corrosion rate is significantly accelerated.

In order to get an economical and high-efficiency corrosion inhibitor, in this paper the weight loss method were used to investigate the corrosion inhibition rate of the combined inhibitor. The thiourea, urotropine and Cetyltrimethyl Ammonium Bromide (CTAB) were combined each other. The results showed that double combined and triple combined inhibitor all had a high corrosion inhibition rate. Especially the thiourea combined with urotropine, whose concentration were 0.02 g/L and 0.08 g/L respectively, had a lowest cost and the corrosion inhibition rate was 91.22%.

The corrosion inhibition effect of 3-hydroxyflavone was studied on mild steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid ( HCl ). The anticorrosive effect was evaluated by weight loss and electrochemical methods which include Tafel polarization and AC impedance studies at 300 K. In weight loss method, the inhibition efficiency increased with increase in inhibitor concentration, and decreased with increase in temperature and immersion time, and acid concentration. The inhibitor showed maximum efficiency of 91% at 4 × 10-4 M concentration in 1 M hydrochloric acid. The Tafel polarization study showed that the inhibitor behaves likely as cathodic type. The corrosion inhibition effect measured by weight loss method and electrochemical studies was in good agreement with each other. The surface analysis was done by using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Several adsorption isotherms are assessed to study the adsorption behavior of the inhibitor on the mild steel surface. The negative value of ΔG ads indicates the spontaneous adsorption of the inhibitor on mild steel surface.
