Synthesis of La2O3-SiO2-B2O3 (LSB) based glass-ceramics using glass melting method has een investigated in this study. XRD result showed that some LSB glass systems in this study were ntirely amorphous phases. In addition, TMA results revealed that the LSB/mullite (LSBM) glassceramics ith a mass ratio of 60/40 could be densified at 850oC, which matches the requirements for theLTCC application. Moreover, dispersive behavior of the LSB glass powder with six kinds of commercial ispersants in MEK and toluene solvent had been studied. Furthermore, tape-casting process used for ow-temperature-cofired-ceramic (LTCC) chips was conducted in order to do crystal phase identification, microstructure analysis, and dielectric property measurement.

This paper reports the fabrication and characterization of (Bi0.48Sb1.52)Te3 thick films using a tape casting process on glass substrates. A slurry of thermoelectric (Bi0.48Sb1.52)Te3 was developed and cured thick films were annealed in a vacuum chamber at 500–600 °C. The microstructure of these films was analyzed, and the Seebeck coefficient and electric conductivity were tested. It was found that the subsequent annealing process must be carefully designed to achieve good thermoelectric properties of these samples. Conductive films were obtained after annealing and led to acceptable thermoelectric performance. While the properties of these initial materials are not at the level of bulk materials, this work demonstrates that the low-cost tape casting technology is promising for fabricating thermoelectric modules for energy conversion.

Samples of transparent glass-ceramics in the ternary system Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2 (LAS), with Er2O3 as a luminescent dopant, are investigated. The initial glass is obtained by the classical melting technique. In order to induce ceramization of the glass, TiO2 and ZrO2 are added in small amount as nucleating agents. The thermal treatments at 730 and 770°C are carried out to promote formation of titanium zirconate solid solution precipitates. The spatial distribution of the precipitates in the material, their morphology, and their composition are investigated with TEM, HRTEM, HAADF-STEM, EELS and EFTEM. The results demonstrate that with the glass-melting preparation technique it is possible to achieve small nanoparticles with uniform distribution and higher number density than with the sol-gel glass preparation.

The composition, structure, and thermal behaviors of yttrium-containing phosphate glasses were studied in this work, and the glass-ceramics were prepared via the two-step crystallization method. The XRD and SEM-EDS results show the forming range of the phosphate glass system and the formation of YPO4 (xenotime) due to the addition of excessive Y2O3. The spectroscopic characterization of these glasses presented shifts of the infrared and Raman bands, demonstrating the depolymerization of the glass network and the formation of novel P–O–Y bonds, and the deconvoluted Raman spectra also exhibited the occurrence of the disproportionation reaction in the glass melting process. The content of non-bridging oxygen (NBOs) from the UV–vis spectra first increased and then decreased with increasing Y2O3. The thermal behaviors show that the Y2O3 reduced the crystallization peak temperature and the thermal stability of the glasses. The crystalline behaviors of the phosphate glass matrix were investigated at different crystallization times of 2–10 h, and a transformation of the crystallization mechanism from surface to volume crystallization was found. The yttrium phosphate glass-ceramics crystallized for 10 h exhibited transformation of the main crystalline phases with increasing Y2O3, and the grain-oriented crystalline surface became irregular.

Sr0.7Ca0.3TiO3 (SCT) substrates were prepared through aqueous tape casting. Properties of SCT slurries with and without ammonium polyacrylate (NH4PAA) dispersant were characterized by zeta potential. The zeta potential measurement result shows that the isoelectric point (IEP) of the powder changed obviously with the addition of the dispersant. The optimum pH value of the slurry is in the range of 9-10. The rheological test result indicates that the proper content of the dispersant is between 0.6 and 0.8 wt%. The effect of different plasticizer/binder ratio (R) on the properties of the green tapes was investigated. For 56 wt% solid loading, the tensile strength of the green tape reached 2.02 MPa and the breaking elongation rate was about 8%. SEM micrographs show that the microstructure of the green tapes is homogeneous and the microstructure of the sintered tapes is dense.
