In this work, we developed a very simple and novel approach for synthesizing TiO2-ZnO nanocomposites via the urea-assisted thermal decomposition of titanium oxysulphate and zinc acetate at different weight ratios. The synthesized nanocomposite samples were studied by means of HR-TEM, XRD, STEM, UV–Vis DRS, PL and EDS. The observed results demonstrate that the TiO2-ZnO nanocomposite consists of an anatase crystal phase of TiO2 with a crystallite size of 10–15 nm. Combined characterization, including UV–Vis DRS, STEM, EDS and HR-TEM, revealed the successful formation of a heterojunction between TiO2 and ZnO and an improvement in UV spectrum absorption. The photocatalytic activity was explored using MO degradation under ultraviolet light illumination. The results of the optimized TiO2-ZnO nanocomposite show excellent photocatalytic activity and photostability over a number of degradation reaction cycles. In addition, the current approach has immense potential to be used as a proficient method for synthesizing mixed metal oxide nanocomposites.

A magnetic photocatalyst [Formula: see text]-Bi2O3/Mn[Formula: see text]Zn[Formula: see text]Fe2O4 (Bi2O3/MZF) was fabricated by hydrothermal and calcination method, and characterized by XRD, FTIR, XPS and SEM, BET and VSM. The photocatalytic efficiency was measured by the degradation experiment of Rhodamine B (RhB). The degradation rate of the optimum sample Bi2O3/MZF (10 wt.%) could reach 96.8% after 3 h under visible light, and was improved significantly compared with pure [Formula: see text]-Bi2O3 due to the larger pore size (11.76 nm) and specific surface area (17.87 m2 ⋅ g[Formula: see text]. Meanwhile, the Bi2O3/MZF (10 wt.%) could be recovered under the external magnetic field due to its high magnetization saturation (9.22 emu ⋅ g[Formula: see text]. After reusing three times, the Bi2O3/MZF could still maintain the excellent photocatalytic activity and structural stability.

Abstract Bismuth Molybdate nanostructures were synthesized using a simple hydrothermal method at varied pH (2,4,6,8, and 10) for 15 h at 180°. The results show that the pH precursor solutions have a significant impact on the morphology, phase formations and photocatalytic activity. The FESEM observations and XRD analysis, at low PH level, Bi2MoO6 nanoplates have formed while gradually convert to Bi2MoO6 spherical nanoparticle at high PH level. The optical absorption study demonstrated that Bi2MoO6 nanoplates absorbed visible light, but that there was a blue shift when compared to the cubic Bi4MoO9 structures. Photocatalytic activity revealed that nanoplates in pH = 4 sample has excellent photocatalytic activity for degradation of rhodamine (RhB), methylene orange (MO) and phenol under visible- light irradiation (λ > 400 nm). The most important point is photodegradation 90% of phenol within 300 min.

This study attempted to produce polymeric microfibers with low-cost and photocatalytic properties, making it possible to remedy two modern problems, plastic disposal and irregular effluent disposal, for which we used the solution blows pinning (SBS) technique to produce recycled polystyrene (PS) microfibers (recycled waste from transparent barrel pen), the use of the SBS also has good mobility for the benefit of fibers, allowing the fibers to be produced directly under the surface where intend to be used, through the SEM was found the ideal concentration to produce uniform microfibers. With the minor average diameter, FTIR analysis of the fibers showed peak characteristics of PS, demonstrating that most of the transparent barrel pen is composed of PS. The as-prepared fibers of recycled PS were incorporated into their polymer solution with a TiO2 Degussa P25 concentration of 10% (w/w) concerning the polymer mass. For the study of photocatalytic activity, the dye Rhodamine B was used as an indicator. Excellent photocatalytic activity, XRD pattern of PS and PS/TiO2-10% fibers showed PS and TiO2 in two phases, anatase and rutile.
