Oxidization of diamond in the sintering process of diamond/borosilicate glass composites would result in low compressive fracture strength (CFS) of the grit and uncontrolled expansion with many irregular pores in the composites, causing low bending strength of the tools. In this paper diamond/borosilicate glass composites were prepared by cold pressing and sintering at 850 C for 120 min in air. An active element Zn was incorporated into the composites in order to resolve the above issues. The effects of Zn contents on the properties of the composites was investigated by the bending strength tests, the volume expansion rate tests, differential scanning calorimeter test (DSC), thermogravimetry (TG), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed Zn was oxidized and then converted to ZnAl2O4 and Zn2SiO4 phases during sintering. The bending strength improved and the expansion phenomenon was inhibited for the composites with various Zn additions. The maximum bending strength and minimum volume expansion rate were obtained for the composite GZ8. This Zn content resulted in a decrease of volume expansion rate from 8.57% to -20.53%, and an increase in bending strength from 28.49 MPa to 74.02 MPa compared with the composite GZ0. The CFS results of the diamond grits separated from GZ0 and GZ8 was 21N and 26N, respectively.

In this study, it was aimed to develop properties of cement paste having standard properties and produce a graphene doped Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) and boron-based cement paste in this context. This type of special cement is mixed with PVA as polymer additive material so it can have a higher strength and sufficient elasticity per unit weight. Also, boric acid which can absorb neutrons having poisonous effect in nuclear reactions is added into the cement in order to minimize environmental disaster caused by a nuclear accident. Compressive and bending strengths were measured based on TSE tests of graphene doped PVA and boron-based cement paste. Then, samples were measured by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller Method (BET) and subjected to X-ray Diffraction (XRD). In XRD measurements, crystalline structure was observed in all materials. According to compressive strength tests, as the graphene amount increases compressive strength also increases, however in bending strength tests as the graphene amount increases bending strength decreases. Although the values of bending strength of samples produced decreased with increase of graphene content, these values were found to be above the standard values. In addition to boron, graphene admixture has a significant effect on material with its positive strength properties.

In this research, copper (Cu)-carbon nanotubes (CNTs) nanocomposites were synthesized with different weight percentages of CNTs by double pressing double sintering (DPDS) method as well as conventional sintering method. A planetary ball mill was used to disperse CNTs in Cu matrix. The milled powders were first cold pressed to 450 MPa in a uniaxial stainless-steel die with cylindrical compacts (diameter: 12 mm and height: 5 mm). The effect of CNTs content and the DPDS method on the properties of the nanocomposites were investigated. The microstructure and phase analysis of Cu-CNTs nanocomposite samples were studied by FESEM and X-Ray Diffraction. The electrical conductivity of nanocomposites was measured and compared to both sintering methods. Mechanical properties of Cu-CNTs nanocomposites were characterized using bending strength and micro-hardness measurements. Enhancements of about 32% in bending strength, 31.6% in hardness and 19.5% in electrical conductivity of Cu-1 wt.% CNTs nanocomposite synthesized by DPDS method were observed as compared to Cu-1 wt.% CNTs nanocomposites fabricated under the similar condition by a conventional sintering process.

AbstractIn this work, Zn-Ni alloys have been deposited on steel from sulfate bath, by electrodeposition method. The effect of Zn content on deposits properties was studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoaperometry (CA), linear stripping voltammetry (ALSV) and diffraction (XRD) and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). The corrosion behavior in 3.5 wt. NaCl solution was examined using anodic polarization test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction of show that Zn-Ni alloys structure is composed of δ phase and γ phase, which increase with the decrease of Zn content in deposits. Results show that deposits obtained from bath less Zn2+ concentration exhibited better corrosion resistance.

In order to improve the osteoblast growth and bacteria resistance, Zn-containing hydroxyapatite (Zn-HA) and titanium oxide (TiO2) composite coatings were prepared to improve binding between coating and Ti substrate. TiO2 film was prepared on the surface of Ti by micro-arc oxidation (MAO) and Zn-HA coating was deposited on TiO2 using sol–gel technique. Phase structure, composition and microstructure of the surface coatings were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS), respectively. The adhesion strength between the coatings with different Zn content was measured by tensile testing. The results showed that there was no significant influence of Zn content on adhesion strength between coating and Ti substrate.
