The importance of formal processes of planning and control in any organization has been recognized for the last two decades. Planning and replanning require some form of forecasting. Unfortunately, most forecasts utilized in practice consist of a complex mix of managerial expectations, organizational momentum, the predicted impact of managerial actions, as well as proposed managerial actions and good intentions. The evaluation of and control over such a forecast is difficult, if not impossible. This has led to efforts to analyse such a forecast into its major components. The practical implementation of these different forecast elements has yielded great success in planning applications. In control applications some undesirable side-effects have become apparent in recent years. A proposed modification to the control system application should eliminate such effects.

The development of the smart building concept and building automation field is based on the exponential evolution of monitoring and control technologies. Residents of the smart building must interact with the monitoring and control system. A widely used method is specific applications executed on smartphones, tablets, and PCs with Bluetooth connection to the building control system. At this time, smartphones are increasingly used in everyday life for payments, reading newspapers, monitoring activity, and interacting with smart homes. The devices used to build the control system are interconnected through a specific network, one of the most widespread being the Building Automation and Control Network (BACnet) network. Here, we propose the use of the BACnet Application Layer over Bluetooth. We present a proposal of a concept and a practical implementation that can be used to test and validate the operation of the BACnet Application Layer over Bluetooth.

Nowadays, due to the increasing variety of variants and individual production as well as tight delivery times, supporting IT systems are indispensable in production. This poses a particular challenge for SMEs, since individual interface developments and machine-specific connections are time-consuming and costly. These challenges can be met by using a Production Planning and Control system as an integration platform and a generally valid interface to the machine connection.
