In this work we present results of measurements of structural (XRD), microstructural (SEM, EDX, TEM) and transport (electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient) properties as well as results of Mössbauer and FTIR spectroscopy studies of phospho-olivine materials with assumed chemical composition Li 1-3x Al x FePO 4 (x = 0, 0.001, 0.005, 0.01, 0.02, 0.05 and 0.1). Based on the performed research, possibility of lithium sublattice doping by Al is discussed. Additionally, initial results of electrochemical tests of lithium batteries with obtained, phospho-olivine based cathode materials are provided.

Particularly important is the use of drilling fluid in carrying out drilling works to great depths and especially in difficult geological conditions. Proper function of the drilling fluid is governed by the selection of their physico-chemical properties. Drilling works of hydrogeological survey require circulation of borehole with such rinses, which at a minimum pollute water-bearing horizons and their chemical composition meets hygiene requirements.

SummaryVariations in chemical composition and in some physico-chemical properties of milk from a herd of lactating Alpine goats imported into Greece were determined from week 8 after parturition until the end of lactation (35 weeks, 35 samples). The average composition (g/100 g) of the milk was: fat 3·44, protein 3·35, casein 2·46, lactose 4·30, ash 0·79, total solids 11·76 and solids-not-fat 8·32. The average pH was 6·57 and titratable acidity was 16·76 (°D). The averaged density was 1·030. The mean mineral contents (mg/100 g) of the milk were: Na 53·12, K 157·67, Ca 140·06, P 110·00, Mg 13·59, citrate 106·97. All constituents studied as well as pH and density were significantly (P < 0·05) dependent on the stage of lactation. Titratable acidity was not significantly affected by stages of lactation. There were significant (P < 0·001) differences in Na/K and Ca/P ratios in the milk between lactation stages. Trends with lactation for each of the components and physico-chemical properties determined are reported and correlations between constituents in the milk are given.

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK), due to its excellent mechanical and physico-chemical parameters, is an attractive substitute for hard tissues in orthopedic applications. However, PEEK is hydrophobic and lacks surface-active functional groups promoting cell adhesion. Therefore, the PEEK surface must be modified in order to improve its cytocompatibility. In this work, extreme ultraviolet (EUV) radiation and two low-temperature, EUV induced, oxygen and nitrogen plasmas were used for surface modification of polyetheretherketone. Polymer samples were irradiated with 100, 150, and 200 pulses at a 10 Hz repetition rate. The physical and chemical properties of EUV and plasma modified PEEK surfaces, such as changes of the surface topography, chemical composition, and wettability, were examined using atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and goniometry. The human osteoblast-like MG63 cells were used for the analysis of cell viability and cell adhesion on all modified PEEK surfaces. EUV radiation and two types of plasma treatment led to significant changes in surface topography of PEEK, increasing surface roughness and formation of conical structures. Additionally, significant changes in the chemical composition were found and were manifested with the appearance of new functional groups, incorporation of nitrogen atoms up to ~12.3 at.% (when modified in the presence of nitrogen), and doubling the oxygen content up to ~25.7 at.% (when modified in the presence of oxygen), compared to non-modified PEEK. All chemically and physically changed surfaces demonstrated cyto-compatible and non-cytotoxic properties, an enhancement of MG63 cell adhesion was also observed.
