The aim of this paper was to investigate the biological and ethological response of golden grey mullet Chelon auratus (Risso, 1810) fries collected from Romanian Black Sea shallow waters to different salinities and temperatures, in order to document the optimal conditions for controlled rearing. The species’ potential for aquaculture is enhanced by its eurihalyne and eurithermal adaptability, allowing it to grow in a variety of ecosystems, including the Romanian Black Sea area, with its highly variable salinity and temperature specificities. Three experimental set-ups were designed: a salinity tolerance test, with 5 salinity regimes (0.3‰, 5‰, 10‰, 15‰ and 20‰), a temperature tolerance experiment, involving both temperature decrease (down to 8°C) and increase (up to 34°C), and an extreme salinity test, reaching a maximum value of 95‰. The aggregated results obtained from the three experiments indicated that golden grey mullet fries can indeed tolerate a wide range of temperatures (8°C - 36°C) and salinities (5‰-70‰), with the optimal range between 10‰ and 30‰ salinity, at temperatures of 10°C - 25°C. The practical purpose of this investigation was supporting the diversification of local mariculture species, as mullets can be excellent candidates for the enhancement of aquaculture in the area.

Topicality. International business increases GDP, but it is influenced by a lot of difficulties in its functioning; the share of Ukraine in global value chains remains low; the strategic prospects are undefined. The weakest aspects of the international business macroeconomic environment are determined in the paper. The influence of the international business macroeconomic environment on regional development is also studied in the paper. Aim and tasks. The aim of the paper is the investigation of the international business macroeconomic environment of the Ukrainian Black Sea area; the determination of its elements and interrelation among them, specific features, and deterrents of regional development based on the successful entrepreneurship. Research results. The results of the study show a wide range of problems in such components of the macroeconomic environment of international business as the world economy, regulatory policy, markets, capital, and human skills. The global economy influences the international with the global crisis. The period of the survival, adaptation, and crisis management comes for international business. The regulatory policy problems that worsen the conditions of international business in Ukraine remain unresolved (corruption, distrust of the judiciary, imperfect mechanisms for implementing legislation, violation of the property rights, lack of foreign economic strategy of the country, etc.). The market component of the entrepreneurial environment of the international business is faced by such problems: the narrowing of international and national markets, changes in the geographical and commodity structure of exports due to the military conflict in the Donbas region, the economic downturn and decline in the world commodity prices. Typical problems of the financial component are low access to foreign and other financial resources for the development of the international business. In terms of the human resources component, there is a loss of traditional benefits of Ukraine associated with a highly skilled workforce due to declining motivation to work productively and increased international migration flows from the region. The combined effect of these factors leads to the fact that the contribution of international business to regional development, calculated by the authors using a regression model, is insufficient. Conclusion. The attractiveness of the southern region of Ukraine for international business is based on a number of advantages: a high level of specialization in shipbuilding, agriculture, tourism, recreation, green energy, etc. The rational use of regional resources has the potential to outweigh the risks of international business. The efficiency of the international business depends not only on available resources but also on the macroeconomic environment and the management of the business itself. Solving these problems will further increase the efficiency of international business in the region and its contribution to regional development.

Reactive ion etching of SiC induced surface damage, e.g., micromasking effect induced coarse and textured surface, is one of the main concerns in the fabrication of SiC based power devices [1]. Based on CHF3 + O2 plasma, 4H-SiC was etched under a wide range of RF power. Extreme coarse and textured etched surfaces were observed under certain etching conditions. A super-linear relationship was found between the surface roughness and RF power when the latter was varied from 40 to 160 W. A further increase in the RF power to 200 W caused the surface roughness to drop abruptly from its maximum value of 182.4 nm to its minimum value of 1.3 nm. Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) results revealed that besides the Al micromasking effect, the carbon residue that formed a carbon-rich layer, could also play a significant role in affecting the surface roughness. Based on the AES results, an alternative explanation on the origin of the coarse surface is proposed.

Zirani of Savar is an important industrial area of the country which provides wide range of potentiality for economic development. The purpose of the study was to observe the nutrient status and heavy metals concentration of the soil in Zirani, Savar, Dhaka. Nine soil samples were collected and analyzed through different methods for analyzing pH, OC, N, K, P, S and the heavy metals including Zn, Cd, Cu, and Pb, were investigated using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) technique. The analyzed result revealed the soil surrounding the dumping site was slightly acidic which is not harmful for agricultural production. The highest value of OC was recorded 2.14% at point 3 and the lowest value was 1.92% which was found in point 2 that is greater than the reference value. Except total N concentration, the amount of available P, K, and S were greater than their recommended level. In addition the result showed that the concentration of Cu and Pb were much higher than their recommended level and the maximum value of Cu was 0.09 ppm and 0.762 ppm was the maximum concentration of Pb. and the concentration of Zn and Cd were within tolerable limit. Zn at point 3 showed higher concentration which was 3.05 ppm. The maximum value of Cd was 0.09 ppm that was found at station 1 under point 3.J. Environ. Sci. & Natural Resources, 8(1): 65-68 2015

ABSTRACTThe gammaproteobacteriumLegionella pneumophilais the causative agent of Legionnaires’ disease, an atypical pneumonia that manifests itself with severe lung damage.L. pneumophila, a common inhabitant of freshwater environments, replicates in free-living amoebae and persists in biofilms in natural and man-made water systems. Its environmental versatility is reflected in its ability to survive and grow within a broad temperature range as well as its capability to colonize and infect a wide range of hosts, including protozoa and humans. Peptidyl-prolyl-cis/trans-isomerases (PPIases) are multifunctional proteins that are mainly involved in protein folding and secretion in bacteria. InL. pneumophilathe surface-associated PPIase Mip was shown to facilitate the establishment of the intracellular infection cycle in its early stages. The cytoplasmic PpiB was shown to promote cold tolerance. Here, we set out to analyze the interrelationship of these two relevant PPIases in the context of environmental fitness and infection. We demonstrate that the PPIases Mip and PpiB are important for surfactant-dependent sliding motility and adaptation to suboptimal temperatures, features that contribute to the environmental fitness ofL. pneumophila. Furthermore, they contribute to infection of the natural hostAcanthamoeba castellaniias well as human macrophages and human explanted lung tissue. These effects were additive in the case of sliding motility or synergistic in the case of temperature tolerance and infection, as assessed by the behavior of the double mutant. Accordingly, we propose that Mip and PpiB are virulence modulators ofL. pneumophilawith compensatory action and pleiotropic effects.
