This study focused on investigating the ergonomics and ergonomic considerations of learning environments of higher education institutions (HEIs) in Nigeria. It adopted a descriptive survey design. Population of study comprised all the three universities in Rivers State and a total of 136 lecturers, 230 students and 6 staff of works departments constituted the sample. Four research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Data was collected using a researcher-constructed questionnaire entitled Educational Ergonomics in Higher Institutions questionnaire (EEIHIQ). An observation checklist and interview schedules were also used. The instrument was validated by experts and its reliability index was established at .75 index using Pearson Moment correlation coefficient. Mean scores were used to answer the research questions while the z–test was used to test the hypotheses at the .05 level of significance. The findings were that school buildings and other teaching and learning facilities in the universities are ergonomically below standard and unsafe. Recommendations towards improvement are made.Keywords: Physical facilities planning; Ergonomics; Quality assurance

This study examined the marital adjustment and communication styles among married adults in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted. The population consists of married adults in Ilorin, Kwara State. Two research questions were raised and four null hypotheses were postulated in the study. Data were collected using a questionnaire tagged ‘Relationship between Marital Adjustment and Communication Styles Questionnaire’ (RMACSQ). Data analysis was done using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). The result obtained revealed that there was a high level of marital adjustment among married adults in Ilorin, Kwara State. Married adults in Ilorin Kwara State adopt good communication styles in marriage. There was no significant relationship between marital adjustment and communication styles of married adults in Kwara State based on age, gender and educational status. There was a significant relationship between marital adjustment and communication styles among married adults in Kwara State on the basis of years of marriage. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that seminars and conferences should be organized for married adults in other to enlighten them on the challenges of marital relationships. This would enable them to adjust and communicate better in their new home.


This research determined students’ perception of teachers’ characteristics of interest, attitude and subject mastery as required in the teaching of chemistry in senior secondary schools in Abakaliki Education Zone of Ebonyi State. The study made use of a descriptive survey design. The population of the study comprised all the chemistry students in all public secondary schools in Abakaliki Education Zone. From a total population of six hundred and thirty (630) senior secondary II students, a sample of three hundred (300) students was used for the study selected by stratified random sampling technique. This was based on the four local government areas in the Education zone. A structured questionnaire in a four point Likert type format was used for data collection. The instrument had a reliability coefficient of 0.88, which showed a high internal consistency. Three research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while t-test statistic was used to test the lone null hypothesis. Results of the study indicated that students perceived to a high extent; teachers’ interest, attitude towards chemistry and mastery of the subject as necessary characteristics in the teaching of chemistry. The hypothesis tested at 0.05 level of significance was not significant. Based on the results of the study and the educational implications of the results, recommendations were made.

The main aim of this study was to investigate the use of ICT in teaching Kiswahili plays in secondary schools as a way of cultivating interest and positive attitude towards drama at an early age. The objectives of the study were: To ascertain whether teachers of Kiswahili play have ICT skills for teaching Kiswahili plays and to examine attitude of teachers of Kiswahili towards integration of ICT in teaching Kiswahili plays The study used social learning theory by Bandura and the functionalism theory by John Dewey. The study employed a descriptive survey design to answer the research questions. Stratified sampling was used to categorize schools in to boys, girls, mixed schools, day and boarding schools. Simple random sampling was applied to select 275 students from a total of 918 students. The study used focus group discussion, questionnaires for teachers and students to collect data and interviews to provide further information on the teacher’s attitude on the use of ICT in teaching Kiswahili play and observation. The study showed limited use of ICT in teaching and learning of Kiswahili play and it adds up into the pool of existing knowledge and is beneficial to teachers since it gives suggestion on the best combination to motivate and arouse interest of teaching and also to the teacher training institutions in preparing teachers to adequately use ICT in instruction in classroom level and also to the curriculum developers.

The paper examined the perception of student counsellors studying Guidance and Counselling in various Nigerian Universities on ethical codes which should guide and protect the counselling profession. Four research questions were raised to guide the study and two corresponding hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted the descriptive survey design, with a sample of 1,500 students, drawn from selected Nigerian universities using the multistage sampling technique. The instrument used to gather data for the study was a 50 item questionnaire constructed by the researcher. The psychometric properties were determined and found adequate for use. The test-re-test method was applied to determine reliability which yielded r = 0.88. Senior lecturers in the Department of Guidance and Counselling ascertained content and construct adequacy of the instrument. Data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation to answer research questions and t-test to test the hypotheses. The study found out that respondents perceived counselling codes highly irrespective of their gender and religious beliefs although male respondents showed stronger agreement. It was therefore recommended that the Counselling Association of Nigeria should develop counselling ethical codes for professional counselling practice in Nigeria without considering any bias for gender and religion.

The study examined the availability and utilization of ICT Resources for teaching English Language in secondary schools located in Nsukka urban of Enugu state, Nigeria. Two research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. The design of the study was descriptive survey design. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 9 teachers out 29 English teachers from the 9 public secondary schools in Nsukka urban. One English teacher each from the nine schools making it a total number of 9 teachers were used for the study. Checklist and questionnaires were used to collect data. These instruments were validated by three experts from university of Nigeria Nsukka. Percentages, mean and standard deviation and t-test were used to analyse the data collected. The findings of the study revealed that only 3 ICT resources were available for teaching English language in secondary schools. The study also revealed that the very few that were available were grossly underutilized. This implied that the teaching of English which is known for its capacity to douse linguistic tension in our multilingual Nigeria is not effectively and efficiently taught and learnt. Recommendations made include that government should make available ICT resources for the purposes of teaching English in secondary schools in Nsukka urban and that teachers should be exposed on how to use the ICT resources.

Teaching as inquiry (TAI) is described as a component of effective pedagogy that has significant impact on learning outcome. Based on this premises, the study sought to examine TAI and its implications for teaching and learning in the Cape Coast Metropolis, Ghana. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study and a sample of 160 basic school teachers was selected from three circuits within the Cape Coast Metropolis. A questionnaire and an interview guide were used in collecting the data for the study. Data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency count, percentages and means and standard deviations) whereas the interview data was transcribed and presented by doing thematic analysis. The study revealed that majority of the respondents had knowledge about TAI. In addition, the study showed that the teachers engaged in TAI practices such as reflecting and questioning their methods of teaching, identifying the academic needs of students before planning instruction and engaging in projects and research concerning the subject and content to be delivered. Findings from the study showed that teachers who participated in the study have embraced the concept of TAI very well and considering how they can mentor and lead others. It was recommended that the Cape Coast Metropolitan education office should organize intermittent workshops and training for teachers on TAI to help teachers build specific skills and refinements for reflection and action and planning strategies to support learners to learn specific things (content or skills) that teachers can specifically monitor in terms of student outcomes.

As higher education institutions deal with the increase of international students, teachers are increasingly concerned with the potential challenges in dealing with teaching and learning in a culturally diverse classroom. The purpose of this study is to examine the level of culturally diverse teaching competence of teachers in international higher education institutions. The cultural diverse teaching competence is measured based on the five dimensions typology of multicultural education. They are awareness, relationship, instruction, respect, and prejudice. A cross-sectional survey design was employed with a sample of 241 participants was taken from a university located in Thailand. The results of the students thought that teachers were most competent at building respect for diversity and that teachers were least competent at general cultural awareness and combating prejudice. In addition, the majority of students come from single cultural and become more multicultural as they progress through school. Lastly, there were differences in cultural competence when comparisons were made by faculty.

Technology is relevant in achieving educational development. Exploring how best to pattern and incorporate educational technology to engender sustainability remains relevant. It is against this backdrop that this study examined the Prospect of online instructional delivery in sub-Saharan African Universities using Google Classrooms ascertained concerning usability and accessibility while examining impending challenges. This study adopted a descriptive survey design. The study population was undergraduates enrolled at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, a public institution owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the most soughed institution in terms of admission in the country. The target population was teacher trainees exposed to online instructional using Google Classrooms for 2018/2019 academic session. The study participants were purposively sampled; a total of 1933 participants. Data were gathered using a researcher designed questionnaire which was face and content validated. Three research questions were stated to examine accessibility, usability and challenges while the tested hypotheses were concerning prospects of Google Classroom for University of Ilorin undergraduates' learning across gender and departmental divides. Both descriptive statistics (Research Questions) and inferential statistics (Hypothesis) were employed in analysing data collected gathered. Significant findings revealed that Google Classroom holds prospects for innovative instructional approach for university undergraduates’ learning. However, there is a need to improve its level of accessibility to undergraduates to maximise its gains by making efforts to alleviate the challenges militating against smooth access to ensure sustainability in higher education in sub-Saharan Africa, apt in the current pandemic era.

The purpose of this study was to ascertain the leadership of principals for sustainable development of secondary schools in Anambra State. The researcher adopted a descriptive survey design for this study. Two research questions and two null hypotheses were formulated and they guided the study. The population for the study consisted of all 257 principals and 4320 teachers in Anambra State secondary schools. 10% of the teachers‟ population was used for this study while 257 principals were used. The researcher made use of a 10 item questionnaire which was face validated by three experts. The reliability of the instrument was determined by using Cronbach Alpha. The reliability index was 0.80 which made the instrument reliable. The researchers‟ questions were answered by making use of mean with standard deviation, while t-test statistics was used to test the hypotheses. The findings of the study showed that the sustainable development of secondary schools in Anambra State was to a great extent. The recommendations made among others was for the principals to enhance their working relationship with the staff of the secondary schools as to create a peaceful teaching and learning environment for a sustainable development in the schools.

This article identifies classroom management problems, their causes, and possible ways to reduce these problems in primary schools located in Delta State, Nigeria. A total of 600 teachers selected from twelve local government areas participated in this study. Data were collected in a checklist containing 27 items and a two section questionnaire containing 19 items. Three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated and tested using percentage, bar and pie charts, chi-square and analysis of variance at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that common classroom management problems were related to students shouting, calling names, sleeping and talking/engaging in discussion during lessons. Identified causes of these problems were seen as originating in: overcrowded classrooms; parent neglect of the health conditions of children; and an unhygienic and below-standard teaching and learning environment. School location does not significantly influence teachers' views on identified causes and possible ways to reduce classroom management problems in primary schools in Delta State, Nigeria.
