Selected psychological qualitative methods used for research into written textThis article presents selected methods of written text analysis and interpretation using interpretative approach. This approach aims at discovering senses, i.e. personal attitudes experiences. The work starts with classic theory of life-span development by Ch. Buhler and moves on to present contemporary research, published since 2005, including psychological interpretation of B. Cohler’s diaries from the ghetto, as well as studies in the area of narrative identity. The article includes an example of extensive analysis and interpretation of a diary, inspired by D. McAdams’ method of Life Stories. Presented theoretical and practical proposals constitute a pragmatic contribution to interdisciplinary discussion on methods of using private documents as research material.

Abstract This article investigates the roles that text modalities play in translation from written text into recorded signed language. While written literacy practices have a long history, practices involving recorded signed texts are only beginning to develop. In addition, the specific characteristics of source and target modes offer different potentials and limitations, causing challenges for translation between written and signed language. Drawing on an ideological model of literacy and a social-semiotic multimodality approach, this article presents findings of a qualitative case study analyzing one practitioner’s strategies translating an academic text from written English into British Sign Language. Data generated through interviews and text analysis reveal an event influenced by the affordances of the media and the translator’s consideration of source and target literacy practices.

Objetivo: conhecer como as vivências de docentes de cursos técnicos de enfermagem têm contribuído para seu sofrimento moral (SM). Metodologia: pesquisa qualitativa, mediante entrevistas semiestruturadas, com dez enfermeiros docentes de duas instituições de ensino profissionalizantes do extremo sul do Brasil, e análise textual discursiva. Resultados: construíram-se duas categorias: - (Des) cuidado prestado pelo futuro técnico em enfermagem como fonte de SM ao docente – revelando desinteresse e distanciamento do estudante das práticas de cuidado; - Dinâmica organizacional do ambiente de estágio e (des)cuidado do paciente como fonte de SM do docente, relacionada à precariedade de recursos materiais e a condutas inadequadas dos profissionais de enfermagem. Conclusão: tais situações de descompromisso repercutem em vivências de SM. A problematização do cotidiano, pelos docentes, poderia contribuir para o reconhecimento da dimensão moral presente no sofrimento, entendendo-o como SM, fortalecendo-se para o enfrentamento dos problemas e dilemas morais vivenciados na prática educacional.Descritores: Enfermagem; Ensino; Educação Profissionalizante; Ética em enfermagem.THE LACK OF CARE FROM THE PATIENT AS REASON OF MORAL SUFFERING OF TEACHER FROM TECHNICAL NURSING COURSEObjective: to know how the life experience of technical nursing course teachers has been decisive for their SM. Methodology: quality research, through interview semi-produced with ten nursing teachers from two professionalizing teaching institutions in southern Brazil, and written text analysis. Results: two categories were built: -The care or lack of care from thefuture nursing technician as the cause of SM in the teaches – expressing lack of interest making students not to participate in inappropriate behavior nursing classes; - Organizational dynamic in the trainee environment and the care or lack of care of the patient as the cause of teachers’ SM, related to precarious equipment and inappropriate behavior from nursing professionals.Conclusion: these carelessness situations are causes of SM in nursing teachers. Conclusión: estas situaciones de descompromiso repercuten en vivencias de SM. Se considera que si los docentes problematizasen ese diario, podrían progresar para el reconocimiento del ancho moral listo en el sufrimiento, habiendo la comprensión de eso como SM, fortaleciéndose para el enfrentamiento de las dificultades y disyuntivas morales vividos en la práctica educacional.Descriptores: Enfermería; Enseñanza; Educación para profesionalizarse; Ética en Enfermería

Every written text in any language has one author or more authors (authors have their individual sublanguage). An analysis of text if authors are not known could be done using methods of data analysis, data mining, and structural analysis. In this paper, two methods are described for anomaly detections: ngrams method and a system of Self-Organizing Maps working on sequences built from a text. there are analyzed and compared results of usable methods for discrepancies detection based on character n-gram profiles (the set of character n-gram normalized frequencies of a text) for Arabic texts. Arabic texts were analyzed from many statistical characteristics point of view. We applied some heuristics for measurements of text parts dissimilarities. We evaluate some Arabic texts and show its parts they contain discrepancies and they need some following analysis for anomaly detection. The analysis depends on selected parameters prepared in xperiments. The system is trained to input sequences after which it determines text parts with anomalies using a cumulative error and winner analysis in the networks. Both methods have been tested on Arabic texts and they have a perspective contribution to text analysis.

Abstract. Background: Identifying precursors that will aid in the discovery of individuals who may harm themselves or others has long been a focus of scholarly research. Aim: This work set out to determine if it is possible to use the legacy tokens of active shooters and notes left from individuals who completed suicide to uncover signals that foreshadow their behavior. Method: A total of 25 suicide notes and 21 legacy tokens were compared with a sample of over 20,000 student writings for a preliminary computer-assisted text analysis to determine what differences can be coded with existing computer software to better identify students who may commit self-harm or harm to others. Results: The results support that text analysis techniques with the Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) tool are effective for identifying suicidal or homicidal writings as distinct from each other and from a variety of student writings in an automated fashion. Conclusion: Findings indicate support for automated identification of writings that were associated with harm to self, harm to others, and various other student writing products. This work begins to uncover the viability or larger scale, low cost methods of automatic detection for individuals suffering from harmful ideation.

A software system for the automatic free-text analysis and retrieval of radiological reports is presented. Such software involves: (1) automatic translation of the specific natural language in a formalized metalanguage in order to transform the radiological report in a »normalized report« analyzable by computer; (2) content processing of the normalized report to select desired information. The approach used to accomplish point (1) is described in detail referring to a specific application.

Abstract:Much information about patients is stored in free text. Hence, the computerized processing of medical language data has been a well-known goal of medical informatics resulting in different paradigms. In Gottingen, a Medical Text Analysis System for German (abbr. MediTAS) has been under development for some time, trying to combine and to extend these paradigms. This article concentrates on the automated syntax analysis of German medical utterances. The investigated text material consists of 8,790 distinct utterances extracted from the summary sections of about 18,400 cytopathological findings reports. The parsing is based upon a new approach called Left-Associative Grammar (LAG) developed by Hausser. By extending considerably the LAG approach, most of the grammatical constructions occurring in the text material could be covered.
