Collaborative innovation has a significant impact on the efficiency of manufacturing services and manufacturing innovation. In this paper, a collaborative innovation model of manufacturing services and manufacturing is constructed based on the two-dimensional asymmetric evolutionary game basic model. The stable evolution strategy of the model is to be found through the solutions to the replicator dynamic differential equation of both sides of the game. The results show that on the one hand, producer services can rely on the carrier of knowledge capital and human capital to link to the manufacturing process from front to back, and form the forward and backward spillover effect. On the other hand, the knowledge elements in producer services, especially tacit knowledge, are transmitted through the modern network under the common industrial culture atmosphere in the process of continuous industrial interaction and industrial integration, which can promote the sharing and transfer of knowledge, produce interactive innovation, and finally promote the innovation of value chain.

The digital transformation of manufacturing industry accelerates the collaborative innovation of multi-agent value co-creation, which makes the influence of subject heterogeneity on the innovation performance in digital innovation become a focus issue in both theory and practice. This paper builds a conceptual model of subject heterogeneity in digital collaborative innovation influence on the innovation performance from target heterogeneity, knowledge heterogeneity and organization heterogeneity three dimensions, which based on the perspective of the behavior subjects in manufacturing digital innovation of value co-creation. Then we deeply explore the influence mechanism between the heterogeneous cooperative innovation behavior of heterogeneous value subject and the innovation performance in digital innovation. The research results are helpful to realize higher quality digital cooperation among manufacturing enterprises, promote the coordinated development of digital value chain, and improve the digital innovation performance.

Servitization is an important trend in the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry, but whether it can significantly improve enterprise performance is the key to the transformation. Based on the sample of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2011 to 2019, we analyze the business scope of 2502 annual reports to identify the service level of consumer goods manufacturing enterprises. The results show the following. (1) The “service performance” curve shows obvious nonlinear trends and heterogeneity in different industries and different performance conditions. The curve between servitization and return on assets tends to show a positive “U” shape, but the relationship between servitization and revenue per employee obviously shows an inverted “U” shape. (2) Manufacturing enterprises with relatively low technical complexity and relatively high industry competition will reach the inflection point of service performance “U” curve more quickly and get rid of “service trap” more easily. (3) The automobile manufacturing industry invests in software development and other fields that are not related to its own advantages, which violates the correlation law of the industrial value chain, leading to the coexistence of “service trap” and “principle-agent dilemma.” The clothing and electrical appliances industries are more likely to fall into the “service trap” because they face the challenge of “Internet + manufacturing” transformation. The beverage and wine manufacturing industry has induced a “service spillover” effect, which is mainly due to its low technical complexity and service based on the industrial chain. It is proposed that manufacturing enterprises explore business growth points from the perspective of industrial value chain extension and strengthen upstream product R&D and terminal e-commerce services.

The fragmentation of production due to vertical disintegration has profusely impacted growth in world trade via vertical specialisation in production and trade. This article is purported to examine domestic and import contents in exports in the manufacturing sector of India, and a few select countries in Asia. We have used the World Input–Output Database (WIOD) to estimate the domestic and foreign value-added shares of export. The period of our study is from 2000 to 2014. Our results pertaining to the aggregate manufacturing industry of India reveal that while, on the one hand, the domestic value-added contents of export have fallen significantly, the foreign value-added contents of export, on the other hand, have increased significantly over time. We have also conducted disaggregated industry-level analyses, which show that there is a wide variation in the degree of vertical integration in trade. The cross-country analysis reveals that the foreign value-added shares in total manufacturing export increased for developed Asia in 2014 over 2000. In emerging and developing Asia, it either has increased or remained stagnant. This scenario indicates a larger backward linkage of the manufacturing sector in the global value chain (GVC) across countries. Here, we have primarily focussed on the six key manufacturing industries viz. Food, Textiles, Chemicals, Basic Metals, Fabricated Metals and Motor Vehicles for cross-country industry-level analysis. Industry-level heterogeneity is highly prevalent in Asia in terms of their participation in GVC.

AbstractDespite advances in pharmacological research providing means for individually customized patient attribute treatments, the 'one-size-fits-all' paradigm remains. Customization is associated with cost increases and the value assessment of customized medicinal products shows upon a narrow economic focus. Inspired by value models, emerging in manufacturing industry research, this study suggests a novel methodology encompassing a full sustainability perspective, including the social, economic and ecological dimension, for design decision support for medicinal products. A concept screening matrix is adapted, using sustainability criteria as value indicators. The focus is to create value for the whole pharmaceutical value chain whilst keeping the core purpose of medicinal products, i.e. to bring societal benefits. An illustrative case study presents an application of the methodology on a commercial product for curing hypertension. The traditional product design for hypertension treatment is compared to a customized product design. Results indicate that a customized product design is preferable if value is to be created from a social or/and an ecological sustainability perspective.

Could there be a win-win situation for both pension funds and the Swiss forestry sector? On the one hand, developments in the forestry sector suggest that the Swiss forest presents a new lucrative investment opportunity. If this is so, then pension funds could be particularly interested, as the low correlation between Swiss forest and other classes of investment, and the long investment periods involved are ideal for pension fund portfolios. On the other hand, large investments made by pension funds could mean that existing problems in Swiss forestry, in connection with its fragmented nature, could be more rapidly solved, and the potential for rationalization in the wood value chain could be fully realized. This would in turn make investments in the forest even more profitable. This hypothesis was investigated through a comprehensive literature analysis, yield calculations for private forestry enterprises of over 50 ha made by the Swiss Federal Office for Statistics 2004–2008, and an interview with the investments director of a large Swiss pension fund. Despite the optimistic assumption that the greater efficiency gained by the investment of pension funds into the forestry sector could lead to costs lower by 50% and a 20% increase in profits, the hypothesis must be rejected, because a calculated annual return of only 0.82% is too low for pension funds. The conclusion is that the price for forest land is high, and forest owners are not only interested in the monetary value of holding forest. Other immaterial values influence prices. It is suggested that a greater emphasis on socioscientific studies concerning the link between the price of forest land and the motivation to buy and sell forest could lead to some important findings.

Low back pain (LBP) is a common health problem and a major cause of lost productivity in workplaces. Manual materials handling (MMH) jobs have traditionally been regarded as risk factor for LBP. Compared to two-handed lifting, one-handed lifting has received little attention in both epidemiological and biomechanical research. In addition, one frequent complaint of the revised NIOSH lifting equation (RNLE) has been the lack of capability to directly evaluate one-handed lifting. Modifications have been proposed by the European Union, however their efficacy and influence have not yet been evaluated. This cross-sectional study provided objective survey of the MMH jobs, especially the one-handed lifting performed in manufacturing industry and investigated the outcomes of three proposed methods to address one-handed lifting using RNLE approach. Preliminary results suggest that workers with some one-handed lifting are associated with higher physical exposure. However, the increase was more significant among those who perform primarily one-handed lifting.

The renormalized dynamics described by the equations of nonlinear fluctuating hydrodynamics (NFH) treated at one loop order gives rise to the basic model of the mode coupling theory (MCT). We investigate here by analyzing the density correlation function, a crucial prediction of ideal MCT, namely the validity of the multi step relaxation scenario. The equilibrium density correlation function is calculated here from the direct solutions of NFH equations for a hard sphere system. We make first detailed investigation for the robustness of the correlation functions obtained from the numerical solutions by varying the size of the grid. For an optimum choice of grid size we analyze the decay of the density correlation function to identify the multi-step relaxation process. Weak signatures of two step power law relaxation is seen with exponents which do not match predictions from the one loop MCT. For the final relaxation stretched exponential (KWW) behavior is seen and the relaxation time grows with increase of density. But apparent power law divergences indicate a critical packing fraction much higher than the corresponding MCT predictions for a hard sphere fluid.

With the fiercer competition and more complex environment of manufacturing industry, the service-oriented manufacturing mode integrating manufacture and service has become an inevitable trend. Together with the producer services and product-service system, the development process of service-oriented manufacturing mode was summarized. Compared with the traditional manufacturing mode, a conceptual model of service-oriented manufacturing was proposed. Furthermore, the operational framework of service-oriented manufacturing mode was established based on its operating characteristics. The research paper could provide the manufacturing enterprises with some foundation for implementing the service-oriented manufacturing mode.
