The corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 0.5M H2SO4 and 1M HCl by leave extract of eucalyptus was studied using gravimetric (weight loss) method at various temperature. The results obtained showed that the efficiency of inhibition increases with increase in the extract concentrations and decreases with rise in temperature. The adsorption of plant extract on the mild steels was found to obey Longmuir adsorption isotherm. This could be due to physical adsorption of cation species on the metal surface.

The inhibition of corrosion of mild steel usingPiper nigrumL in different acid medium by weight loss method was investigated. The corrosion inhibition was studied in hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid by weight loss method at different time interval at room temperature. The result showed that the corrosion inhibition efficiency of this compound was found to vary with different time interval and different acid concentration. Also, it was found that the corrosion inhibition behavior ofPiper nigrumL is greater in sulphuric acid than hydrochloric acid. So,Piper nigrumL can be used as a good inhibitor for preventing mild steel material.

The synergistic effect of halide ions such as KCl, KBr and KI on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 N sulphuric acid by [Formula: see text]-2,c-6-diphenyl-t-3-methyl piperdin-4-ones with semicarbazone (01[Formula: see text]SC), [Formula: see text]-2,c-6-diphenyl-N-methyl-t-3-ethyl piperdin-4-ones with semicarbazone (02[Formula: see text]SC) and 2,6-diphenyl-t-3-ethyl piperdin-4-one with semicarbazone (03[Formula: see text]SC) has been examined by weight loss method, potentiodynamic polarization measurements and electrochemical AC impedance spectroscopy. Results show that substituted [Formula: see text]-2,c-6-diphenyl piperidin-4-ones with semicarbazone act as the perfect corrosion inhibitors and their inhibition efficiency increases with the addition of halide ions. The inhibitor (01[Formula: see text]SC) shows the inhibition efficiency of 78.28% (0.2[Formula: see text]mM) by using a weight loss method. The influence of I[Formula: see text], Br[Formula: see text] and Cl[Formula: see text] anions raises the inhibition efficiency of the substituted 2,6-diphenyl piperidin-4-ones with semicarbazone due to the synergistic effect. The synergistic effect of halide ions was formed in the following order: KI [Formula: see text] KBr [Formula: see text] KCl.

The corrosion inhibition effect of 3-hydroxyflavone was studied on mild steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid ( HCl ). The anticorrosive effect was evaluated by weight loss and electrochemical methods which include Tafel polarization and AC impedance studies at 300 K. In weight loss method, the inhibition efficiency increased with increase in inhibitor concentration, and decreased with increase in temperature and immersion time, and acid concentration. The inhibitor showed maximum efficiency of 91% at 4 × 10-4 M concentration in 1 M hydrochloric acid. The Tafel polarization study showed that the inhibitor behaves likely as cathodic type. The corrosion inhibition effect measured by weight loss method and electrochemical studies was in good agreement with each other. The surface analysis was done by using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Several adsorption isotherms are assessed to study the adsorption behavior of the inhibitor on the mild steel surface. The negative value of ΔG ads indicates the spontaneous adsorption of the inhibitor on mild steel surface.

The corrosion inhibitory activity of mild steel in 1M hydrochloric acid solution by Mimosa pudica leaves extract was examined by the weight loss method. The result reveals that the leaves extract performs well as a good eco-inhibitor of the corrosive action of HCl on mild steel. Inhibition efficiency obtained for the extract rises with higher concentration and exposure time but falls with increasing temperature. The mechanism of the adsorption mode of the extract’s molecules fits well with Langmuir adsorption isotherm which suggests that the phytochemical constituents, (tannins, saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, phenols, and quinones) as qualitatively displayed by the preliminary screening, adsorb onto the metal surface by forming monolayer films. Kinetics study shows that the rate of metal corrosion in the acidic medium is a first-order reaction that is concentration-dependent. Keywords: Mimosa pudica, corrosion inhibition, crude extract, weight loss

An alcoholic extract of a sea weed Sargassum muticum has been used to control corrosion of mild steel in 0.5 N HCl. Weight loss method and Electrochemical studies have been used in this study. Weight loss study reveals that 500 ppm of the inhibitor offers 99.25 % inhibition efficiency. Polarization study reveals that the inhibitor functions as an anodic inhibitor at higher concentration. The AC impedance spectra confirm the formation of a protective film on the metal surface. Adsorption of inhibitor molecules on the metal surface follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm.

The corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 N sulphuric acid solution by 2,6-diphenylpiperidin-4-ones with various substituents at 3- and 3,5-positions (01–06) has been tested by weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopic methods, and FTIR and UV absorption spectra. The surface morphology of the mild steel specimen has been analyzed by SEM. The effect of temperature (300 to 323 ± 1 K) on the corrosion behavior of mild steel in the presence of the inhibitors (01–06) was studied using weight loss techniques. The effect of anions (Cl−, Br−, and I−) on the corrosion behavior of mild steel in the presence of the same inhibitors was also studied by weight loss method and the synergism parameters were calculated. The adsorption characteristics of the inhibitors have been determined from the results.

The thermodynamic properties and characterizations of corrosion inhibition of chitosan nano-particles on the surface of mild steel in peat water media had been studied using weight loss method at temperatures of 30 - 50 oC. Steel surfaces were characterized by FT-IR spectra and SEM-EDS morphology photos. The research found that the value of DGo approaching -40 kJmol-1. The negative value of Gibbs free energy shows that the adsorption of inhibitor molecules on the surface of mild steel was achemisorption and it occurred spontaneously. Meanwhile, the values of DHo is also negative confirming that the adsoprtion of inhibitor molecules is an exothermic process. The value of DSo obtained is positive, it indicates hat the inhibitor molecules were adsorbed spontaneously on the mild steel surface. The analysis on mild steel surfaces hows that the nano-particle chitosan was adsorbed on the steel surface to form the complex compounds.

In this corrosion test, simulated brine is used as corrosion medium, added different concentrations of aloe juice. Static weight-loss method is employed, meanwhile, we calculated corrosion rate of Q235 steel and researched on the corrosion inhibition effect of aloe in different temperatures. Results show that aloe is a good inhibitor, rate of corrosion inhibition can reach 80% or more and suitable for the temperature of work environment is less than 60 °C.
