The developmental and behavioral disabilities remain high in children and in adults who were born preterm. In this case assessment of quality of life and development of preterm infants can be very informative and interesting. This is a prospective longitudinal (at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months) study of preterm birth and term control infants selected from pediatric polyclinics of Yerevan. The quality of life (QL) measures were done with QUALIN questionnaire and the developmental measures with Battelle Developmental Inventory. A total of 71 preterm and 105 term control infants underwent study. Among 71 preterm birth infants, who selected on the study at 3 months, 40 infant's score on the BDI was <–1 SD and 1 infants' score on the BDI was <–2 SD. However, at the age of 12 months 32 of these same children showed a BDI score >85. Parents and pediatricians reported worse QL for of preterm infants compared with control group. At same time parents of preterm infants reported better QL for their children compared with pediatricians. The lowest QL and developmental scores among preterm children were detected at 3 months. Improvement of QL and developmental score was observed in the next age groups.

All of the studies regarding movement have concluded that physical exercises (PEs) hold a very important part in improving people’s quality of life (QL). QL is comprised of several indicators influencing each other. One of these indicators is physical fitness (PF). PF is directly influenced by the degree of physical activity (PA) and it represents a precondition of being healthy physically, mentally and socially. The purpose of this research was to identify certain exercise programs which are meant to increase the PF of university students. In this regard, we introduced, in the physical education lessons of the experimental group, exercises from Pilates, Tae Bo, Stretching and Workout at Fitness Machines. Control group carried out typical activities of the ordinary Physical Education curriculum throughout the research. The PF components reported improvements in the values of the experimental group at the end of the research. There were significant improvements for balance (p = 0.009), speed of execution (p = 0.006), flexibility (p = 0.013), explosive strength (p = 0.001), static strength (p = 0.009), muscular endurance of the trunk (p = 0.0008), muscular endurance of the arms (p = 0.010) and agility (p = 0.0001). The results of our research support the idea of diversifying physical education lessons with students and orienting physical activities towards increasing their QL, because the improvement of QL for all age groups has become a major focus of modern society.

ABSTRACT Introduction Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a global health problem affecting approximately 14% of the population of all age groups. CRS has a significant adverse impact on quality of life of the patients. Objective The aim of this study was to compare the quality of life of patients suffering from CRS with that of normal population and to assess the association between objective nasal endoscopic score, self-rated symptom score and quality of life (QoL) score. Methodology This was a prospective study conducted over a period of 12 months. A total of 110 cases of CRS and 50 normal subjects taken as controls were recruited from out patients department. Patients diagnosed as a case CRS were subjected to rhinosinusitis disability index (RSDI), subjective QoL questionnaires and self-rated symptom score in their vernacular language followed by diagnostic nasal endoscopy, using 0° rigid endoscope (4 mm). Results This study revealed that the mean ± SD total QoL score in the patients was 50.2 ± 14.9 (15-94) which was significantly affected as compared to control group where it was only 18.2 ± 9.15 (3-47). The mean ± SD of the functional, emotional and physical domains were 17.6 ± 5.46 (4-34), 16.5 ± 8.29 (5-88) and 16.5 ± 5.84 (2-35) respectively. There was no correlation between endoscopic score and the patient's self-rated symptom score or RSDI score. The correlation between the self-rated symptom score and total QoL score was significant (p = 0.02). Conclusion On comparing the QoL in the patients of CRS with the controls, it was observed that QoL was affected more in the patients of CRS in the physical, functional and emotional domain of their life. CRS has considerable adverse impact on QoL of patients and RSDI is a valuable tool in assessing the QoL in patients of CRS. How to cite this article Gairola P, Bist SS, Mishra S, Agrawal V. AbstractBackground and purpose: Brain arteriovenous malformations (AVM) are uncommon vascular lesions with the risk of hemorrhage, epileptic seizures, neurological deficits, and headache. Comparing the risks of the natural history and that of preventive treatment, a recent study has found observation more beneficial than treatment for unruptured AVMs. This study, however, did not consider the long-term impact of carrying a brain AVM on everyday activities. In this study we analyzed the Quality Of Life (QOL) of patients with untreated AVMs, a measure increasingly used in clinical trials to asses this kind of impact. Methods: We enrolled 36 patients with unruptured, untreated brain AVM from our hospital database and measured their QOL retrospectively using the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire. As a control group we used the results of the Research Report, a nationwide study based on the quality of life of 5534 healthy Hungarians in 2002. Due to the low number of cases, statistical analysis could not be made. Results: Headache proved to be the most common AVM-related sign in our cohort (40%, n = 17), with a female predominance; neurological deficit was detected in 33% (n = 14), while epileptic seizures occurred in 26% (n = 11), more commonly affecting male subjects. Anxiety and discomfort seemed to be the most prevalent influencing factors on QOL, especially in the youngest age group (18–34 years). Female subjects showed a greater dependence than men in all age groups, though males had a more significant impairment in their usual activities. Older patients were affected more significantly in their self-care and usual activities compared with the younger population. Conclusions: Untreated AVMs have a significant negative impact on patients carrying unruptured brain AVMs, as proved by QOL assessment. Beside neurological deficits, this impact should also be considered in the therapeutic decision.

Introduction.Coccygodynia is a multidisciplinary disease which is diffi cult to treat. It seriously limits the ability to work and signifi cantly affects the quality of life of patients. The study of somatic dysfunctions in patients with coccygodynia and the analysis of the results of osteopathic treatment of such patients makes it possible to justify the necessity of osteopathic correction of coccygodynia.Goal of the study— to determine the structure of the leading somatic dysfunctions in patients with coccygodynia and to study the effectiveness of osteopathic treatment of this pathology.Materials and methods. The study involved 44 patients from 25 to 65 years old, randomly divided into two groups. The main group of 24 people (20 women and 4 men) received osteopathic treatment, in accordance with the identifi ed leading somatic dysfunctions. Patients of the control group (16 women and 4 men) were treated locally with soft manual techniques (the treatment area was limited by the pelvic region). In order to assess the results of the treatment, we examined the intensity of the pain syndrome and the psycho-emotional state of patients. The severity of the pain syndrome was assessed in accordance with the visual analogue scale (VAS). The psycho-emotional state (with physical and mental components) was assessed with the help of the SF-36 quality of life questionnaire.Results.Somatic dysfunctions typical for patients with coccygodynia have been identifi ed. Osteopathic treatment has proven to be more effective in comparison with local manual therapy of coccygodynia both in early periods and in 3 months after the end of the treatment course.Conclusion.Osteopathic treatment of post-traumatic coccygodynia is effective, and can be recommended for treatment of such patients.

In recent years, breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer pathology and the most common cause of disability among women in developed countries. Finding the most effective ways of interaction between the patient and the doctor creates the preconditions for the necessary analysis of the treatment process from an objective and subjective point of view. Therefore, an important indicator to be taken into account is the quality of life of a patient. To compare the indicators of a comprehensive assessment of the quality of life of patients to the adverse locally advanced forms (LA) of breast cancer before and after systemic intravenous polychemotherapy (SPCTx) and selective endolymphatic polychemotherapy (ELPCTx) in neoadjuvant mode. The study was conducted on the basis of a random analysis of outpatient cards from 112 patients with LA BC T4A-DN0-3M0 who received a comprehensive antitumor treatment on the basis of the Donetsk regional antitumor center and the University Clinic of the Odessa National Medical University from 2000 to 2017, which was proposed a questionnaire at various stages of preoperative treatment. The first (control) group consisted of 65 patients (58 %) with inoperable forms of LA BC, which was performed in neoadjuvant mode by SPCTx. The second (study group) included 47 patients (42 %) with inoperable forms of LA BC, which was performed as a neoadjuvant course ELPCTx. According to the integral indicators of quality of life and quality of health between patients in the control and study groups, there was no statistically significant difference. In a detailed analysis of the indicators of symptomatic scales, the difference between the groups did not exceed the critical. Based on the results of a study conducted among patients receiving endolymphatic chemotherapy in a neoadjuvant mode, the subjective evaluations of treatment in absolute numbers have better reference values without statistical superiority. The study of the integrative indicator of quality of life and its discrete elements is an ergonomic and economical means of heuristic assessment of the health of patients in order to further develop more rational and convenient ways of solving urgent issues of modern oncology by increasing compliance and finding a compromise between the physician and the patient.
