Chlortalidone is a compound that is often used in the pharmaceutical world as an oral drug to treat hypertension. This review article discusses the summary of methods for determining the concentration of chlorthalidone in pharmaceutical preparations and biological matrices. We took the data collected in this review article was taken through trusted sites such as Google Scholar with the search keywords "chlorthalidone determination," "pharmaceutical preparations," and "biological matrices," with a period of the last twenty years (2001-2021). This review article aims to provide an overview of the assay used to determine the concentration of chlorthalidone either in the form of a single substance or pharmaceutical dosage forms. Overall, the determination of chlorthalidone levels has been carried out using various analytical methods. Including spectrophotometry, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), chemometrics and thin-layer chromatography (TLC) - densitometric, capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) methods, spectrofluorimetric methods, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry-mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS) methods, ultrafast liquid chromatography (UFLC), supercritical fluid chromatography method and high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC)-densitometric method. Analysis with the HPLC technique is widely used in research because it can detect samples with the lowest concentrations up to the nanogram level.

Clonidine is an α2-central agonist class of drugs widely used to treat cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, heart attacks and help prevent strokes. The quality and safety of a drug preparation can be proven by testing the drug's quality assurance. In drug quality assurance, it is necessary to determine drug levels. Therefore, it is essential to look at the determination of clonidine levels in raw materials, mixtures, and pharmaceutical preparations. It is collecting data in this review article through trusted sites such as Google Scholar with the search keywords "clonidine hydrochloride," "clonidine analysis in pharmaceutical preparations" with a span of the last ten years (2010-2020). This review article aims to provide an overview of the various analytical techniques used to determine clonidine both in single substance form and in the pharmaceutical dosage form. Several analytical methods, such as UV-Visible spectrophotometry, potentiometry, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC), have been reported to determine clonidine in the form of raw materials, mixtures, and pharmaceutical preparations. Overall, the determination of clonidine levels has been carried out by various analytical methods, including spectrophotometry, potentiometry, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC). Analysis with the HPLC technique is widely used in research because it can detect samples with the lowest concentration. The HPLC-MS method has unique advantages and sensitivity in the analysis of clonidine in pharmaceutical preparations.

Vitamin E, the fat soluble vitamin is present naturally in some foods and added in food supplements, nutraceuticals etc due to its vital biological function as an antioxidant. Various methods are available for the analysis of vitamin E. Especially High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Gas Chromatography (GC) are exclusively used for the quantitative evaluation of vitamin E, which has also identified the four different isomeric forms of this vitamin. The rate of losses of this vitamin during food processing and analysis, in addition to their transient dynamics, presents complexities in developing a highly sensitive procedure for their separations. Though effective, HPLC instrument is expensive and comparatively cumbersome. In this prospective, the study was to evaluate the usefulness of High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) in the analysis of vitamin E. There are methods available using Thin Layer Chromatography for its analysis, but they are not sensitive enough to identify the isomeric forms of vitamin E. In this HPTLC method, the different isomeric forms of vitamin E - α, β, γ and δ were identified. This technique shall be considered as an alternative to the other methods such as HPLC and GC.
