In the development of transportation systems, Application-Based Transportation is an innovation to adapt to technological advances. It offers users an alternative mode that is cheap, easy, and flexible according to their needs. The Application-based travel demands can be seen from its socio-economic and travel characteristics. In Indonesia, previous studies have concentrated on study areas on a city scale, with diverse land use classifications not only on the residential area which is the most users of app-based transportation. The modelling results in this study were obtained from spatial simulation and partial linear regression analysis with the T-test as the final stage of analysis. As a result, demand for App-Based Transportation is affected by two factors which include age and travel costs. They are inversely proportional to the frequency of travel. In this case, this mode is mostly used by the population with young age and low cost of travel. Also, this mode is only used on short-distance trips and trips during rush hour in the morning. During the afternoon rush hour, the trip is transferred to public transportation, which has a lower cost. Therefore, this study aims to determine the application-based transportation demand model for household units in Tlogosari, Semarang, Indonesia. An additional in-depth study is needed to be carried out on the degree of motorcycle safety to improve services.

Resumen: desde hace un par de años, los sistemas de trasporte público enfrentan una crisis que se ha traducido en una disminución de la calidad del servicio y en la degradación o reducción de la flota, por ello algunas ciudades afrontan problemas serios de demanda que exceden la capacidad de dichos sistemas. Uno de los principales obstáculos para hacer frente a esta problemática es la falta de información sobre los patrones de movilidad de los residentes. Por ello, el objetivo de este trabajo es cuantificar el volumen de viajes y derivar la demanda potencial de trasporte público en Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, a fin de proporcionar datos básicos para su planificación y provisión. La metodología emplea un sistema de información geográfica, con información secundaria para determinar las necesidades de movilidad, a partir de la estructura familiar, sus actividades cotidianas y la accesibilidad a los modos de trasportación públicos y privados.Palabras clave: modos de trasporte; trasporte público; oferta de trasporte público; demanda de trasporte público; provisión de trasporte público; accesibilidad al trasporte público.Abstract: since a couple of years ago public transportation systems are facing a crisis, as a result of a fall in the quality of the service, as well as a degradation or reduction of the fleet. As a consequence, some cities face serious problems because demand exceeds the capacity of such systems. One of the main obstacles to address this problem is the lack of information on mobility patterns of residents. Thus, the aim is to quantify the volume of travel and derive the demand for public transportation in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, to provide basic data for its planning and provision. The methodology employs a Geographic Information System, with secondary information in order to determine mobility needs based on family, its daily activities and accessibility to modes of public and private transportation.Key words: modes of transportation; public transportation; public transportation supply; public transportation demand; public transportation provision; accessibility to public transportation.

The increased human mobility, combined with high use of private cars, increases the load on the environment and raises issues about the quality of life. The use of private cars lends to high levels of air pollution in cities, parking problems, noise pollution, congestion, and the resulting low transfer velocity (and, thus, inefficiency in the use of public resources). Public transportation service is often incapable of effectively servicing non-urban areas, where cost-effective transportation systems cannot be set up. Based on investigations during the last years, problems related to traffic have been among those most commonly mentioned as distressing, while public transportation systems inherently are incapable of facing the different transportation needs arising in modern societies. A solution to the problem of the increased passenger and freight transportation demand could be obtained by increasing both the efficiency and the quality of public transportation systems, and by the development of systems that could provide alternative solutions in terms of flexibility and costs between the public and private ones. This is the rationale behind so-called Innovative Transport Systems (ITS) (Colorni et al., 1999), like car pooling, car sharing, dial-a-ride, park-and-ride, card car, park pricing, and road pricing, which are characterized by the exploitation of innovative organizational elements and by a large flexibility in their management (e.g., traffic restrictions and fares can vary according with the time of day).

Traditional transit travel information is acquired by Trip Sample Survey which has some disadvantages including high cost and short data lifecycle. This paper researched transit travel demand analysis method using Advanced Public Transportation Systems (APTS) data. The study collected APTS data of Nanning City in China and established APTS multi-source data analysis platform applying data warehouse technology. Based on key problems research, the paper presented the analysis procedure and content. Then, this study proposed the core algorithms of the method which are determinations of boarding bus stops, alighting bus stops and transfer bus stops of smart card passengers. Finally, these algorithms programs are experimented using large scale practical APTS data. The results show that this analysis method is low cost, operability and high accuracy.

Intensifying numbers of travel demand draws problem to sustainable transport system because of poor facilities, services, frequency and punctuality due to lack of decent planning and design. Increasing numbers of the vehicle ownership has developed the road networks insufficient that leads to congestions. The issues of travel characteristics chosen by the people to their employment area that will show the travel pattern is the core point in this research. The research methodology consist of the interview sessions to the authorise personals and from the distribution of questionnaire survey forms to the resident of low-cost housing areas in Melaka Tengah District in Malaysia. Then data collected were processed using Social Package Statistical Software (SPSS) to show analytical result. This process will displayed the respondent’s travel characteristics and determine their preference in transportation mode to the employment area. Analytical result showed that the impacts from more than half of the respondents choose to travel by car as transportation mode to working area will come to consequences of traffic condition which lead to congested road. These findings will further help bringing in improvement to existing routes and public transportation systems so it will be optimally utilised for a better daily commute.

As the need for environmental certification systems grows, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for New Construction (LEED-NC) is being widely adopted in the US to evaluate the environmental performance of buildings. However, no research has been conducted to investigate its economic impact on appraised land value. The objectives of this study are to quantify the impact of the LEED-NC Credit Alternative Transportation: Public Transportation Access (PTA) in the sustainable sites category on appraised land value and to develop a regression model that predicts the appraised unit value of parcels. San Francisco County was chosen because of its well-organized transportation systems. First, a LEED-NC map was created to identify PTA-qualified parcels. Second, sample parcels were randomly selected. Last, Pearson's correlation analysis, one-way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis were sequentially performed. The results of this study indicated that the LEED PTA criteria are significant factors associated with an increase in the appraised unit value of parcels within San Francisco County. The findings of this study can encourage real-estate developers to site their projects according to the LEED-NC PTA criteria.

With the rapid development of road traffic, real-time vehicle counting is very important in the construction of intelligent transportation systems (ITSs). Compared with traditional technologies, the video-based method for vehicle counting shows great importance and huge advantages in its low cost, high efficiency, and flexibility. However, many methods find difficulty in balancing the accuracy and complexity of the algorithm. For example, compared with traditional and simple methods, deep learning methods may achieve higher precision, but they also greatly increase the complexity of the algorithm. In addition to that, most of the methods only work under one mode of color, which is a waste of available information. Considering the above, a multi-loop vehicle-counting method under gray mode and RGB mode was proposed in this paper. Under gray and RGB modes, the moving vehicle can be detected more completely; with the help of multiple loops, vehicle counting could better deal with different influencing factors, such as driving behavior, traffic environment, shooting angle, etc. The experimental results show that the proposed method is able to count vehicles with more than 98.5% accuracy while dealing with different road scenes.

AbstractIn the summer of 1828, the Entreprise générale des Dames Blanches launched a fleet of white omnibuses onto the streets of Paris. These public transportation vehicles were named and fashioned after Boieldieu's opéra comique La dame blanche (1825): their rear doors were decorated with scenes of Scotland, their flanks painted with gesturing opera characters, and their mechanical horns trumpeted fanfares through the streets. The omnibuses offered one of the first mass transportation systems in the world and were an innovation that transformed urban circulation. During their thirty years of circulation, the omnibuses also had a profound effect on the reception history of Boieldieu's opera. When the omnibuses improved the quality of working- and middle-class life, bourgeois Parisians applauded the vehicles’ egalitarian business model, and Boieldieu's opera became unexpectedly entwined in the populist rhetoric surrounding the omnibus. Viewing opera through the lens of the Dames Blanches, Parisians conflated the sounds of opera and street, as demonstrated by Charles Valentin Alkan's piano piece Les omnibus, Op. 2 (1829), which combines operatic idioms and horn calls. Through these examples and others, this study examines the complex ways that material culture affects the dissemination and reception of a musical work.
