In 2019-2020, biochemical evaluation of grain quality indicators of soybean varieties from the VIR collection by main groups of nutrients under the conditions of the Lower Volga region was conducted. The differences and peculiarities of the gross energy value of grain were revealed according to the results of the research. The samples with high content of protein and fat in the grain were selected for further use in various directions of selection work on this crop. The coefficient of variation of biochemical grain parameters in soybean varieties varied between 2.7-8.7 %, which indicates its low variability. The article presents the evaluation results of soybean sample varieties of the world collection of N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources by economic characters in the conditions of the Lower Volga region. We identified the most early ripening samples by the duration of the growth season and interstage periods. We noted the soybean sample varieties with the highest attachment of the lower bean, the maximum seed weight per plant, thousand-seed weight, and high biochemical seed qualities. We identified the genotypes with an optimal combination of the listed characteristics for further use in various areas of breeding work.

In 2017-2019, in the agro-climatic conditions of the Lower Volga region, the experience of studying spring oat varieties of different ecological and geographical origin from the world collection of VIR was laid, in order to determine their photosynthetic potential, and to identify varieties with high photosynthetic productivity. Over the years of research, the most adapted varieties of this crop were selected, their photosynthetic potential was determined, and the intensity of photosynthesis during the reproductive period of development (during the main growth phases) of spring oats in the conditions of the Lower Volga region was analyzed. On average, for 3 years of studying the collection varieties of spring oats in terms of the net productivity of photosynthesis, samples were noted: Myrtle, Athlete, Urs guara, Urs penca, p. 1. 3326 It was determined that with the growth of (FP) and (BPF), the yield of oats also increased. Since this indicator directly depends on the physiological and bioclimatic processes occurring in plants during ontogenesis. In the highest yield in 2017, it varied from 0.66 to 2.01 / ha. In 2018, the minimum yield values for all varieties were obtained from 0.51 t / ha of the Dookie 10 variety to 1.78 t / ha of the Mir variety. In the conditions of 2019, the yield variability by variety was from 0.60 t / ha to 1.94 t / ha. Thus, out of the 8 studied varieties, 5 were identified - p.1. 3326, Guara Urs, Urs foam, Athlete, Myrtle, as highly productive, and therefore the most resistant to abiotic stresses of the conditions of the Lower Volga region.

The article presents the results of analysis of the biochemical composition, output of gross energy, biomass and grain of 21 chumiz varieties. In the course of experiments, it was found that the range of variation in the protein content in the biomass is from 5.63to 12.91%. More than 11 % of protein is contained in the dry biomass of the following varieties: k-59, k-73, k-1074, k-2029, k-2542, k-3155, Stachumi-3. The fat content in the biomass varies in the range of 1,01…3,48 %. The highest fat content (>2,5 %) was found in cultivars: k-59, k-2029, k-2542, k-3683, Stachumi-3,UVES.Variability of other indicators of biomass quality in chumiz cultivars was found in the following limits: fiber – 30.77...39.06 %; ash – 5.20...13.94 %; BEV – 35.54...54.07 %. The variation of grain quality indicators is set within the following limits: protein – 11.02...15.36 %; fat – 3.26...6.46 %; fiber – 4.77...9.50 %; ash- 1.85...3.26 %; BEV – 68.83...74.30 %. More than 14 % of the protein in the grain was found in cultivars: k-73, k-941, k-982, k-2029, k-2566, k-2774. A relatively high fat content (>5,0 %) was found in the grain of varietals: k-2542, k-2598, k-2608, k-3155, k-3683, Stachumi-1, UVES. The yield of raw biomass varied in the range of 12.57...26.83 t/ha, and grain 1.00...4.10 t/ha. The output of gross energy per 1 t of biomass in the phase of milk ripeness varies in the range of 3.98…4.31 GJ, and grain 16.37…17.53 GJ. The yield of protein per 1 GJ of gross biomass energy varies in the range of 4.29…7.69 kg, and grain – 6.4…8.05 kg. The highest protein yield per 1 GJ of gross biomass energy was found in cultivars (k-59, k-73, k-1074, k-2029, k-2542, Stachumi-3).

In a competitive variety trial, promising selection lines of sugar sorghum were studied in the Lower Volga region. Based on a set of signs, the best lines were identified, which are recommended for transfer to the State Variety Testing. Breeding lines, which are distinguished by high values of commercially valuable traits, can be used in planned crosses to create highly productive varieties and hybrids of sugar sorghum.
