This paper presents the application of a meta-analysis approach to the evaluation of youth-learning data from the nationally distributed This is How We “Role” program. The application of meta-analysis for examining the impact of other multisite youth programs encountering similar data analysis challenges is discussed. At each This is How We “Role” program site, university partners collected data to examine youth-participant learning. Data analysis from these unique sites was challenging as the approach had to accommodate the innate heterogeneity across sites due to differences in implementation, sample size, and learning context. The meta-analysis method revealed details of the underlying variation between sites that could be masked by typical regression approaches, estimated overall program effects, examined subgroups and identified heterogeneity across project sites. The results showed the This is How We “Role” program generally increased learning at each site and as a whole, even though the program effects varied across sites. This example demonstrates the utility of using the meta-analysis approach to similar multi-site youth development programs.

The role of marketing in explaining firms’ business performance has received significant attention throughout the history of the marketing discipline. Over the past two decades, researchers have considerably enhanced the conceptual understanding of the role of marketing in enabling firms to create and sustain a competitive advantage. Recent advances in the marketing–performance interface have also begun to provide more empirical evidence of the impact of specific marketing activities and different types of marketing-related assets on firms’ performance. On the other side, results of studies in many academic fields that are conducted about a specific issue are usually confusing and contrasting. Meta-analysis is a research approach that helps the researcher to a large extent to identify the moderating variables in the results of previous studies. Despite various researches having been conducted, such contrast is also observed in the relationship between marketing activities and organization performance. Characteristics of the research topic can be referred to among the several reasons that have been mentioned for such divergence in similar studies. It was tried in the present survey to identify the role of moderating variables regarding the characteristics of the research topic in the relationship between marketing activities and organization performance using the meta-analysis approach. The results revealed that the moderating variables related to the characteristics of the research topic consisting of marketing activity indexes, organization performance indexes, researcher field and year of publication of the research have been led to a significant difference in the results of studies regarding the effect of marketing activities on performance of organizations.   Keywords: Marketing activities, Organization performance, Characteristics of research topic, Meta-analysis approach.

This meta-analysis includes experimental and quasi-experimental studies of reading interventions for English learners (ELs) coupled with four specific instructional strategies. The purposes of this meta-analysis were two-fold: (1) to identify the effects of the four instructional strategies (i.e. scaffolding, graphic organizers, interactive read aloud, and leveled questions) on ELs’ reading comprehension; and (2) to evaluate the combined effect of these four strategies when used together on ELs’ reading comprehension. In addition to considering that different studies might have varying effect sizes on ELs’ reading comprehension, we also conducted moderator analyses to explore potential moderators that might affect the variation between selected studies. Our moderators were school level, intervention duration, language learning context, and sample size. After an extensive search of research literature, 23 studies were identified that met the inclusion criteria of this meta-analysis study with a total of 2,284 participants. Mean effect sizes among these studies ranged from –.05 to 2.23, depending on instructional strategies. These studies were associated with increased reading comprehension across varied school levels, methodological features, and settings. Our findings showed that each of the four instructional strategies is beneficial for ELs’ reading comprehension. We also found an additional potential benefit on ELs’ reading comprehension when these four instructional strategies are used together throughout a lesson. Our findings also revealed that intervention duration was the only significant moderator, suggesting that the longer the treatment is, the greater the impact will be on ELs’ comprehension.

The e-learning method has been widely used since the pandemic epidemic covid 19. This study was conducted to examine the level of students' acceptance of e-learning learning in the learning process among students of the Department of Commerce Polytechnic Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (PTSS). The objective of this study is to examine the level of acceptance, the ability of students, and the impact of e-learning learning. This study also aims to analyze the readiness of institutions to provide resources for successful e-learning. Data analysis based on feedback from 201 students from the Department of Commerce to review readiness, ability, and e-learning learning can help students of the Department of Commerce master their learning outcomes. The results of this study show that most students know and are sensitive to e-learning and know the benefits or benefits they get from e-learning compared to conventional methods. However, facilities and internet facilities are an obstacle to this noble endeavor.

Network meta-analysis is a commonly used tool to combine direct and indirect evidence in systematic reviews of multiple treatments to improve estimation compared to traditional pairwise meta-analysis. Unlike the contrast-based network meta-analysis approach, which focuses on estimating relative effects such as odds ratios, the arm-based network meta-analysis approach can estimate absolute risks and other effects, which are arguably more informative in medicine and public health. However, the number of clinical studies involving each treatment is often small in a network meta-analysis, leading to unstable treatment-specific variance estimates in the arm-based network meta-analysis approach when using non- or weakly informative priors under an unequal variance assumption. Additional assumptions, such as equal (i.e. homogeneous) variances for all treatments, may be used to remedy this problem, but such assumptions may be inappropriately strong. This article introduces a variance shrinkage method for an arm-based network meta-analysis. Specifically, we assume different treatment variances share a common prior with unknown hyperparameters. This assumption is weaker than the homogeneous variance assumption and improves estimation by shrinking the variances in a data-dependent way. We illustrate the advantages of the variance shrinkage method by reanalyzing a network meta-analysis of organized inpatient care interventions for stroke. Finally, comprehensive simulations investigate the impact of different variance assumptions on statistical inference, and simulation results show that the variance shrinkage method provides better estimation for log odds ratios and absolute risks.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to meta-analytically compare the effect of differentiation strategy formulation on financial and non-financial performance to explore the agency problem. Design/methodology/approach This study was conducted using a meta-analysis approach and CMA2 software. Hypotheses has been tested using cumulative effect sizes. Then, the cumulative effect sizes if some subsamples are also tested for robustness check by manipulation of circumstances. Findings Based on the findings, differentiation affects performance dimensions. However, spite of shareholders’ wealth maximization, differentiation has a smaller effect on financial performance (as the proxy of shareholders’ wealth) compared with operational performance. Meanwhile, the robustness test showed that the results in all subcategories has also confirmed, and this supports the results. Research limitations/implications The results catch attentions of shareholders to review the elements of management evaluation in the corporate governance system in a way that they focus more on stakeholders’ interests in developing differentiation strategy. Limitations of this study is firstly based on limitations of meta-analysis approach, which provide general results of relevant studies so that the local conditions of each firm should be considered in deploying implications. Originality/value Exploring the overall schema of firms (from past to present and in different research conditions) regarding the impact of differentiation strategy on performance has been the originality of this research because of potentials of meta-analysis against past field studies. This originality led to the discovery of the general confusion of firms in the development of differentiation strategy so that it emphasizes operational performance more than financial performance.
