This paper presents a comparative analysis regarding a self-tuning minimum variance control system of a double-fed induction generator with load and connected to a power system through a long transmission line. A new complex nonlinear model describing this relationship between the induction generator, electrical consumer, transmission line, and power system is designed and implemented to simulate the controlled plant behavior. Starting from a simplified linear model of this complex plant, obtained through linearization of its nonlinear model around an operating point, the minimum variance control law design is performed by minimizing a cost criterion function. The main goal and also the paper novelty consists of the identification of a minimum order of this linearized model used to design a reduced order control law, which can still provide good control performance.

A nonlinear controller is presented for a digital hydraulic cylinder against disturbance. We first establish the nonlinear model of digital hydraulic cylinder position control system. Then a Lyapunov function and a nonlinear controller are presented. The controller designing problem is translated into the problem of solving a linear matrix inequality. The experiment results show that the controller proposed by this paper has much better performance than traditional one.

Nonlinear model predictive control of a boiler unit: A fault tolerant control studyThis paper deals with a nonlinear model predictive control designed for a boiler unit. The predictive controller is realized by means of a recurrent neural network which acts as a one-step ahead predictor. Then, based on the neural predictor, the control law is derived solving an optimization problem. Fault tolerant properties of the proposed control system are also investigated. A set of eight faulty scenarios is prepared to verify the quality of the fault tolerant control. Based of different faulty situations, a fault compensation problem is also investigated. As the automatic control system can hide faults from being observed, the control system is equipped with a fault detection block. The fault detection module designed using the one-step ahead predictor and constant thresholds informs the user about any abnormal behaviour of the system even in the cases when faults are quickly and reliably compensated by the predictive controller.
