Developing the Organisational Justice Scale and Examining Teachers' and School Administrators' Views about Organisational Justice in Primary Schools

The purpose of this study is to develop a reliable and valid measurement tool to explore views about organisational justice in schools and to examine teachers' and school administrators' views about organisational justice in primary schools. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 455 participants, 176 school administrators and 279 teachers from the primary schools in the Centre of Van. The Organisational Justice Scale, developed by the authors, was employed as data gathering tool. Principal Component Factor Analysis was used to determine the content and construct validities of the scale and Confirmatory Factor Analysis was employed to evaluate the obtained results. As a result of the study, the developed Organisational Justice Scale (OJS) was found to be a valid and reliable measurement tool for school applications.

The aim of this study is to develop a measurement tool to measure the attitudes of pre-service teachers in science fields towards nanotechnology. For this purpose, a five-point Likert-type scale consisting of 55 items was applied to 373 pre-service teachers who are enrolled in science fields (Science, Chemistry, Biology, Physics) at the grades 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at a public university in Turkey. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis (EFA), it was determined that the scale had a 3-factor structure consisting of 24 items and the factors explained 55.854% of the total variance of the attitude variable. Verification of the model was tested by applying confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The data used for CFA were obtained from 770 pre-service teachers who are enrolled in science fields at the grades 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at two different public universities in Turkey. The results obtained from CFA were in agreement with model obtained by EFA. Cronbach's alpha (Cr-α) reliability of the scale was calculated to be 0.926. Findings from the validity and reliability analyzes show that the scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used to measure pre-service science fields teachers’ attitudes toward nanotechnology.

In this study, it is aimed to develop a measurement tool that can determine the learning styles of students in order to provide efficient learning environments in primary schools. For this purpose, a draft scale form consisting of 24 items defining verbal and visual learning styles on theoretical basis was prepared. Then, using the draft scale form, data were obtained from 296 students of primary school. The data obtained at this phase were analyzed by exploratory factor analysis (EFA). As a result, the final scale form consisting of two dimensions and 12 items was reached. Then, in order to verify the structure of the final scale form, data were obtained from 149 students of primary school, and a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed with these data. According to the results obtained at this stage, the two-dimensional, two-factor, and 12-item structure of the scale was confirmed. In addition, Cronbach's Alpha and stability coefficients were calculated, and as a result, it was determined that the scale made consistent and stable measurements. As a result, a valid and reliable measurement tool has been developed that can determine the learning styles of 8-11 year-old students studying in primary schools.

The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool for measuring organizational health of schools. The study group consists of 429 teachers working in secondary schools in the central districts of Eskişehir/Turkey in the 2015-2016 academic year. The construct validity of the scale was examined by exploratory factor analysis. According to the results of the analysis, the scale measures a four-factor structure. The four-factor structure of the scale was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. The total variance ratio explained by the scale was determined as 71.101%. In order to determine the reliability of the scale, the internal consistency coefficient of Cronbach’s alpha was evaluated and this value was determined as .915. The results of all validity and reliability analyzes show that the Organizational Health Scale can be used as a valid and reliable measurement tool in the studies that teachers will be taken as a working group.

Purpose of this study is to adapt Behavioral Regulation in Sports Questionaire  (BRSQ) which developed by Lonsdale, Hodge and Rose (2008) in Turkish and review psychometry properties. The scale consists of 24 items and 6 subdimension including intrinsic motivation, integrated regulation, identitied regulation, introjected regulation, external regulation and amotivation. Study group consists of total 681 student- athlete whom are licensed athletes and study at Physical Education and Sports College of Ahi Evran University, Erciyes University, Dumlupinar University and Çanakkale 18 Mart University. In order to determine psychometry properties of scale internal consistency, material and factor analysis and test- retest methods were applied. Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient of the measurement determined as follows; 0.790 for total points, 0.856 for intrinsic motivation subdimension, 0.838 for integrated regulation subdimension, 0.862 for identitied regulation subdimension, 0.740 for introjected regulation subdimension, 0.788 for external regulation subdimension and 0.800 for amotivation subdimension. In the analyzes performed, the data obtained from the exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the 6-factor structure of the scale. In addition, scale-based analyzes yielded high test-retest scores. In this sense, it is considered that the scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool for the Turkish sample group.

PurposeThis study aims to propose a framework of bias in construction project dispute resolution (CPDR hereafter).Design/methodology/approachWith reference to the literatures on effects of bias, manifestations of bias in CPDR were developed. Based on data obtained from construction professionals about their frequency of having these bias manifestations, the underlying constructs of biased behaviors were explored by a principal component factor analysis. A confirmatory factor analysis was further conducted to validate the framework of bias in CPDR.FindingsFour types of bias were identified as the constructs that underlie biased behaviors in CPDR. These four biases were included in the bias framework proposed: preconception, self-affirmation, optimism and interest-oriented. The potency of these types of bias was also evaluated.Practical implicationsFirst, the findings inform that the existence of bias in CPDR is real. Early detection allows management to intervene and steer CPDR team back to rational courses. Second, this study suggests optimizing CPDR procedures to diminish the chance of bias occurring.Originality/valueBias is almost an uncharted area in CPDR. The study fills this research gap by conceptualizing the underlying constructs of biased behaviors. The findings inform construction professionals of the likelihood of practicing biased behaviors in CPDR. Repeated dispute decisions in the commonly used multi-tiered dispute resolution process would enable the creeping in of biases.

The present study was intended to develop a scale to measure perceived weight stigmatization among people with obesity. The study was conducted in five steps. In first step, three focus group discussions were conducted with female obese university students to get the first-hand information related to weight stigmatization. Step two involved four interviews which were conducted with male obese university students to collect detailed information about weight stigmatization experiences of men. Step three included content analysis of qualitative data for item generation. In step four, judge’s opinion was taken, and a committee approach was carried out to select the items for the initial form of the scale. Items for final form of the scale were selected through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis in step five. For exploratory factor analysis, 150 university students (men = 61, women = 89) were included in the sample, whereas, for confirmatory factor analysis, another group of students (men = 78, women = 72) participated in the study. Principal Component Factor Analysis revealed three meaningful structures including Self-Perception, Perceived Social Rejection, and Perceived Impact containing 43 items. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed this factor structure and all 43 items possessed factor loadings greater than .40. Moreover, results indicated that perceived weight stigmatization had high internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = .96) with three subscales having internal consistency .95, .83, and .92 respectively. Therefore, Perceived Weight Stigmatization Scale turned out to be a reliable and valid instrument for measuring perception of weight stigma in adults with obesity.

The construct validity and reliability of the 1987 Perceived Physical Competence Scale of Lintunen were examined to assess the applicability of the instrument for use with adolescents with disabilities. Subjects were 51 girls and 34 boys ( M age = 15.1 yr.) from several schools in central Finland. Principal component factor analysis with varimax rotation yielded the same two factors for adolescents with disabilities as reported for nondisabled adolescents in the related literature. Cronbach alphas for the two factors were .89 and .56. It was concluded that the scale is an appropriate measure for adolescents with disabilities. Statistical analysis indicated no gender differences for adolescents with disabilities. When compared with nondisabled groups in the related literature, these adolescents had perceived fitness similar to nondisabled peers but significantly lower than that of athletes without disabilities.

In this study, the authors constructed and validated instrument to measure examiners’ disposition towards knowledge of examination malpractice indicators of West African Examinations Council (WAEC). Consequently, scale development research type of single-subject design was employed. The sample for the two phases consisted of nine hundred and sixty (960) WAEC mathematics examiners from 9 marking centres, which were drawn randomly from Osun, Ogun and Ondo State, Nigeria. The instrument used for data collection was Examiners’ Attitude Towards Knowledge of Malpractice Indicators Scale (EAKMIS). Data were analyzed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Ordinal Alpha. The results showed that the scale was reduced from twenty (20) to eleven (11) items across three (3) dimensions. Final compliance indices were: χ2 = 457.54, p = 0.01, RMSEA= 0.03, GFI = 0.96, AGFI = 0.96, TLI = 0.94, NFI = 0.90, SRMR= 0.01, CFI= 0.91 and IFI= 0.91. The ordinal alpha reliability index for the three (3) factors of EAKMIS was 0.79, while the reliability index for each of the subscale of the EAKMIS ranged from 0.85 to 0.93. It was recommended that there should be intensive training and re-training for all the examiners by the examining body where issues related to the detection of examination malpractice cases while marking would be discussed.
