In this study, it is aimed to develop a measurement tool that can determine the learning styles of students in order to provide efficient learning environments in primary schools. For this purpose, a draft scale form consisting of 24 items defining verbal and visual learning styles on theoretical basis was prepared. Then, using the draft scale form, data were obtained from 296 students of primary school. The data obtained at this phase were analyzed by exploratory factor analysis (EFA). As a result, the final scale form consisting of two dimensions and 12 items was reached. Then, in order to verify the structure of the final scale form, data were obtained from 149 students of primary school, and a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed with these data. According to the results obtained at this stage, the two-dimensional, two-factor, and 12-item structure of the scale was confirmed. In addition, Cronbach's Alpha and stability coefficients were calculated, and as a result, it was determined that the scale made consistent and stable measurements. As a result, a valid and reliable measurement tool has been developed that can determine the learning styles of 8-11 year-old students studying in primary schools.

This study aims to develop a scale in order to determine the digital literacy self-efficacy level of primary school students. In line with this purpose, firstly, open-ended questions, which were created and asked for opinions on digital literacy, were directed to field experts and primary school teachers. The draft scale form was created as a result of the responses to open-ended questions and the literature review was presented to the field experts and the items in the draft scale were finalized in the line with the feedback. The draft scale form was applied to a total of 175 4th grade students studying in the central district of Afyonkarahisar in the 2019-2020 academic year determined by purposeful methods. The data were analyzed by Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and it resulted in a structure with 21 items and four subdimensions named ‘Collaboration in Digital Environments’, ‘Emotion Management in Digital Environments’, ‘Information Management in Digital Environments’ and ‘Awareness in Digital Environments’. It was confirmed that the subscales constituted a model by the first level and second level Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The Cronbach’s alpha value for the scale was found to be .944.

The purpose of this study is to develop a tool that can measure the educational well-being of elementary school students and to analyze the fit of the developed instrument. The measurement tool was based on four levels which include: (1) parents’ support, (2) teachers’ care, (3) students’ care in school, and (4) peer cooperation. It also had eight facets which include: (1) basic need, (2) family companionship, (3) happy learning, (4) teacher-student interaction, (5) safety protection, (6) school rules, (7) peer learning, and (8) peer interaction. The participants of this study were grades 5 and 6 students in Taiwan. Pre-testing with 197 grade 6 students was done to assess the validity and reliability of the developed scale. For the formal study, a total of 960 grade 6 students and 834 grades 5 and 6 students were recruited to join. The data collected underwent item analysis, reliability estimation, and confirmatory factor analysis. The results of the analyses were as follows: (1) the confirmatory factor analysis supported the four latent factors of the educational well-being scale; (2) the Cronbach’s alpha ranged from 0.73 to 0.89 for the elementary school students; (3) the cross-validation analysis with split-half samples implies that the study had a well-constructed stability model and that the scale had construct validity; and (4) the average scores of grade 5 students on the 8 facets and their overall score on educational well-being were all significantly higher than that of grade 6 students. Finally, several suggestions were proposed for future studies based on the results obtained.

This study focused on the statistical technique using factor analysis to validate the scale measuring high school students’ attitudes towards Biology. The study sample consisted of 500 students (male = 220, female = 280) from public and private institutions offering high school education with Biology as an elective subject, in Islamabad. As part of this study, the scale developed by (Ahmad and Jamil, 2019) for the attitude of students towards biology was adopted. Research has shown that attitude and achievement are interrelated. Previously, research studies used exploratory factor analysis to analyze the validity of the scale construction. The present study used exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis to fill the gap in the literature because, after exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis is required to test whether the models estimate the intended theoretical constructs. Following the procedure of factor analysis, six factors of the Biology Attitude Scale (BAS) were identified. The findings of the study show that the scale had a multidimensional construct. Further, the internal consistency reliability analysis was performed. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.86 which shows high internal consistency. It is recommended that BAS is a reliable and valid measurement tool that can be used to determine the attitude of secondary students towards Biology.

Abstract Background Improving healthy behaviour from childhood could be beneficial both children and families and communities. The aim of the study was to develop the Healthy Lifestyle Behaviours Scale (HLBS) to determine the healthy lifestyle behaviours of primary school students. Methods This methodological study carried out in 521 primary school 4th grade students in two eco-schools in the 2019-2020 academic year. By using literature 120 questions was collected including nutrition, physical activity, hygiene, sleep, environmental cleaning, health responsibility and addiction sub-dimensions. After taking expert opinions, a scale that consists of 54 questions and scored as I agree:3, undecided:2, I disagree:1 and was created named HLBS. In order to evaluate the reliability of the scale, item total score correlation and internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) analyzes and exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were used for construct validity. Results Of the 52.8% students were male and their age ranges from 8-11, the mean was 9.5±0.5. After the scale development study, the scale consisted of 53 items and 7 sub-dimensions. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of nutrition, physical activity, hygiene, sleep, environmental cleaning, health responsibility and addiction sub-dimensions were 0.87, 0.68, 0.85, 0.52, 0.76, 0.85 and 0.76, respectively. The variances of sub-dimensions in the scale ranged from 30.17% to 67.87%. The fit of scale and the fit index were found to be acceptable after confirmatory factor analysis. In the last form of the scale, the score that can be taken from scale range 53-159. It was accepted that by increasing of the score, healthy lifetsyles behaviours were increased. The mean score of the students was 141.39±16.21 and the median was 145.0. Conclusions HLBS was found to be a valid-reliable tool for assesing healthy lifestyle behaviours in primary school students. Key messages Health promotion is an issue that needs to be addressed from school age for developing healthy lifestyle behaviours. In the literature, HLBS seems the first scale about healthy lifestyle behaviours for children and needs to be tested in large groups of children.

The aim of this study was to identify the factors associated with school refusal behavior in primary school students. Student’s self-report and teacher’s measures were implemented; and students were recruited from 20 primary schools in six districts in Selangor, Malaysia. The survey was conducted at the end of school term in 2016, with a total of 915 students from Year 4 and Year 5 participating. The sample of students had been absent from school for more than 15% of school days in the current year. Pearson correlation shows a significant relationship between academic achievement and school satisfaction toward school refusal behavior. The findings of this study suggest that academic difficulties and dissatisfaction towards school environment could be the important risk factors for school refusal behavior. The present study underscores the importance of early detection and intervention as measures to reduce school refusal. Finally, the findings imply that the role of school factors should always be taken into account in connection with school refusal behaviour.

The present study sought to develop a scale to measure the values adoption of primary school children and explore whether emotional intelligence of primary school children is associated with values which are taught through curricular activities. First, the Value Adoption Scale (VAS) was developed in Study 1 by conducting exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and correlation was examined in Study 2. Data were collected using the Ten Years Emotional Intelligence Scale (TYEIS) and the Value Scale consisting of eight items. Data were analyzed with Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis. Results of data analysis indicated that there was a moderate correlation between emotional intelligence and values, but regression analysis revealed that emotional intelligence had weak predictive power for values adoption. It was concluded that teaching values through curricular activities is not useful to foster emotional intelligence among primary school children. Results of the research are discussed and addressed along with the relevant literature.
