Abstract TIN is used as a coating on steel and on other metals and alloys. When alloyed with other metals, it is an important constituent in soft solders, collapsible tubes, pewter ware, costume jewelry, fusable pressure plugs, bronze and bearing linings. It has a long and varied history of commercial and ornamental uses. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness and creep. It also includes information on low and high temperature performance, and corrosion resistance as well as casting, forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Sn-5. Producer or source: World tin producers (ingots).

This paper analyses the impact of linguistic loyalty and solidarity on the preservation of the Slovak language community in Vojvodina. These factors represent an essential element in the model of linguistic description of a language community in a minority position. In the first part of the paper, we present the structure and components of ethnolinguistic solidarity of the Slovak community in Vojvodina, and in the second we show results of the survey conducted in 2014 among members of the community related to the level of their linguistic loyalty. Language attitudes of members of the Slovak language community in Vojvodina presented in this analysis bring us new insight into the structure of ethnolinguistic solidarity and reveal the reasons and motivation of their linguistic loyalty, or the absence of it. Vojvodinian Slovaks consider their own language as the most important constituent of their ethnicity, but the survey nonetheless also identified characteristics of the initial phase of the process of language relativisation, as well as a reduction of its role as the cultural marker of the community.

In 1992 the Geological Survey of Greenland (GGU) initiated the project SUPRASYD in order to carry out an economic assessment of the Ketilidian orogen in South Greenland, especially the supracrustal rocks in the southern and eastern parts of the orogen (see Dawes & Schønwandt, 1992). Geological investigations in the area east of Nanortalik and along the east coast of South Greenland as far as 62°N had previously indicated that acid metavolcanic rocks were an important constituent of the supracrustal rocks, and it was therefore expected that the region might have a significant potential for sulphide deposits.

The gut microflora is an important constituent in the intestinal mucosal barrier and has been introduced as the concept of probiotic therapy that beneficially affects the host by improving its intestinal microbial balance. Therefore, the main objective of the study was to explore the protective potential of various lactobacilli strains for murine giardiasis. By experimentation, it was found that the probiotic supplementation of eitherLactobacillus casei,L. acidophilus,L. plantarum, orL. rhamnosusGG, 7 days prior to inoculation withG. lambliatrophozoites, reduced the rate of cyst excretion compared withGiardia-infected mice. Interestingly,L.GG was found to be the most effective probiotic in reducing the duration of giardia cycle and acts as an effective prophylactic probiotic for murine giardiasis but needs to be clinically correlated due to entirely different human microflora.

The task of automatic gesture spotting and segmentation is challenging for determining the meaningful gesture patterns from continuous gesture-based character sequences. This paper proposes a vision-based automatic method that handles hand gesture spotting and segmentation of gestural characters embedded in a continuous character stream simultaneously, by employing a hybrid geometrical and statistical feature set. This framework shall form an important constituent of gesture-based character recognition (GBCR) systems, which has gained tremendous demand lately as assistive aids for overcoming the restraints faced by people with physical impairments. The performance of the proposed system is validated by taking into account the vowels and numerals of Assamese vocabulary. Another attribute to this proposed system is the implementation of an effective hand segmentation module, which enables it to tackle complex background settings.

Five batches of Bolivian Schinus molle essential oils were obtained from pilot and industrial-scale hydrodiffusions. They were analyzed by gas chromatography to find 80 known compounds and two unknown molecules. In particular, preisocalamendiol (5.6–11.0 %) was found to be an important constituent of these oils, along with shyobunol (0.6–3.2 %) and several other related oxygenated sesquiterpenes. These compounds, usually found in Acorus calamus, had not been reported altogether in S. molle essential oils previously. These findings, in light of the GABAA positive modulating effect of shyobunone and preisocalamendiol, along with some traditional uses of S. molle, suggest that further investigation of the tranquilizing properties of these Bolivian oils would be of interest.

Under the title ‘Argenterie d'un seigneur sassanide’ Dr. Ghirshman describes, in Ars Orientalis, II, 1957, 77-82, a recent find, made in Mazendaran, of silver-ware, the most important constituent of which is a set of three richly ornamented bowls with Pahlavi inscriptions. Of these inscriptions, throughout in pointille, only feeble traces can be seen in the photographs that accompany the article; for the purpose of reading we depend wholly on a drawing (p. 81). Drawings are useful enough when they supplement photographs; but no student of epigraphy likes being compelled to rely on another man's eyes.
