The relevance of this work is caused by the need to reduce operating costs in the group of companies of NC KazMunayGas JSC in general and in Ozenmunaigas JSC in particular by increasing the service life of the tubing used. In this regard, the purpose of research and testing was to select the optimal tubing material for each group of wells. Correct grouping of wells (PSL zoning) is also important for the selection of the optimal tubing material. The article indicates the methodology and characteristics for the distribution of wells into groups (PSL zoning). analysis of the causes (wiping, corrosion) contributing to the rapid wear of tubing in the fields of JSC Ozenmunaigas, and recommendations for their solution.

In earlier works, characterization and stress corrosion cracking of casings of brine recirculation pumps, used in desalination plants, had been investigated. These casings which were manufactured from two types of Ni resist ductile irons have been reported to show different service lives. Material selection of casings is believed to be one of possible factors to extend the service life of these pumps. Two types of stainless steels; UNS S31603 and UNS S32750 have been recommended as substitutes to Ni resist ductile irons. In this work, mechanical, metallurgical, and electrochemical tests have been conducted on as received samples, made of these two types of stainless steels. Results have shown considerable higher yield and tensile strengths and corrosion resistance for the UNS S32750 over the UNS S31603. Results have also shown reproduced pitting behavior illustrated by measured pitting potentials and visual observations for UNS S31603 samples. UNS S32750 samples have shown no signs of pitting.

The designing level of material selection and sizes optimization of casing material for heavy oil thermal recovery wells play a key role in the expected production target to heavy oil thermal recovery wells. This paper introduces the material selection of tubing and casing for heavy oil thermal recovery wells and proposes the optimization idea and technique of tubing material selection. By application, the study above has a good practicality.

This paper presents an outline of a method of optimising the service life of aircraft guns at the stage of design engineering and retrofitting. The essence of this method is a selection of service lives and quantities of preventively replaced components and the service parts of non-reconditionable components resulting in an overall reduction of gun production and operating costs (including the costs of replacement parts stocks) with an improvement of the service life of the whole gun assembly. The method assumes that the service lives to be selected must meet a criterion of predefined reliability, maximum service availability when installed aboard a combat platform (i.e. an aircraft) and the minimum time to re-use. It is pointed out that in the design engineering of preventive component replacement and the assessment of the gun selection, a criterion of total gun cost reduction shall apply; the total gun cost is construed as the cost of production/purchase and maintenance applicable to the operating mode (with the costs and time to provide replacement parts). The total gun cost should be decisive in the definition of service lives and the number of components in preventive replacement. To analyse and select the service life and the MTBR (Mean Time Between Replacements), examples of reliability and life models of guns were developed in reference to the applicable operating standards and changes in total costs. This was followed by a demonstration of an innovative model of mapping gun (production/purchase and operating) costs with a complex number plane. The method presented herein facilitates analysing and assessing the feasibility for improvement of a gun’s availability in combat field and training operations.

The selection of an optimal material is an important aspect of design for mechanical, electrical, thermal, chemical or other application. Many factors (attributes) need to be considered in material selection process, and thus material selection problem is a multi-attribute decision making (MADM) problem. This paper proposes a new MADM method for material selection problem. G1 method does not need to test consistency of the judgment matrix. Thus it is better than AHP. In this paper, firstly, we use the G1 method to determine the attribute weight. Then TOPSIS method is used to calculate the closeness of the candidate materials with respect positive solution. A practical material selection case is used to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.

The need for environmentally compliant processes and materials in the Painting Industry grows more pressing every day. As the need for these processes grows, so grows the confusion regarding the selection and implementation of these new methods and materials. In the past, price and traditional procedure were the only criteria by which a material was procured. Speed and compliance with Original Equipment Manufacturer specification governed how things were done on the shop floor. With the advent of the environmental regulations, processes are being examined all across the globe. In many of the larger companies, the chief environmental officer has as important a role as the comptroller or Chief Financial Officer. Environmental managers are often not chemists or line painters, and typically, the environmental manager is skilled only in the policies of waste disposal, spill clean up, or remediation. The methods whereby a company can minimize the generation of hazardous waste remain less familiar. Often the examination of possible alternate techniques and materials are left for the last minute, or are conducted by personnel who are unfamiliar with how to make changes work. This is usually a recipe for failure in the implementing of anything new. This paper will suggest methods for selection of alternative products and processes in a clear and organized manner. Salient discussion points will be: 1. Process Examination 2. Material Selection 3. Steps For Successful Implementation 4. Possible Impediments 5. How to Avoid Risky Alternatives It will focus on procedures that will assist in the decision making process, and hopefully be of use in the choosing of environmentally sound equipment, chemicals, and methodologies.

Quotations and references, taken from old texts on stream channel works (today classified as belonging to soil bioengineering interventions), are presented and discussed. Part I of the same study previously showed a similar analysis on slope stabilization [Bresci 2002]. The selected quotations are reported in a chronologic order to highlight the historical evolution in each work description and, in particular, the instructions and adjustments to put on when carried out. Where suggestions for vegetation material selection and numerical indications are found in the analyzed texts, they have been reported translated into English. The selection of the analyzed works has been carried out among those utilized for streambank protection, a sector where more often vegetation is utilized. Also in this case (Part II) it is demonstrated that bioengineering techniques clearly originate from forest watershed management.
