Ranking supply chain risks is as an important part of supply chain risk management especially when the numbers of risk factors are increased. In this study, the comprehensive structure of the main risks are prepared in three levels of the supply chain (3 total sets, 7 sub-categories and 34 categories and 300 subcategories) initially and then these risks are evaluated and ranked in the steel supply chain in Esfahan Steel Complex as a case study. For this purpose, group decision-making methods and means of collection and aggregation experts and linear assignment method is used as a method of Multiple Decision Making to determine the ranking of risks. Ranking indexes were divided in two primary and secondary categories. The primary index is based on likelihood and impact of risks on the main objectives (schedule, cost, quality and scope) of supply chain activities with different weights. The second category of indicators includesocio-economic effects, environmental impacts, near the time of risk, exposure to risk, the confidence level of the estimates and the management of risk, risk reduction and risk discovering. Risks are ranked better using linear assignment method and according to various indices and are ranked more realistic. Based on the results, risks related to procurement and supplier are identified and introduced as the most critical risks.

Purpose: Outsourcing transactions have been arisen and evolved in the last years and purchase managers want to know if a Failure Mode Effects and Analysis (FMEA) is an effective qualitative technique to analyze supply chain risks (SCR) in a proper way. The aim of this study is to address this question developing a practicable risk management process based on the guidelines of the ISO 31000 for upstream Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) linking risk assessment, risk identification, risk analysis, risk evaluation, risk treatment and validate the process empirically through a case study.Design/methodology/approach: After a review of the literature on Sustainable Supply Chain Risk Management (SSCRM), a case study based on a leading manufacturer of electrical products, collects evidences of SSCRM implementation.Findings: Supply chain disruptions are one of the most critical issues which can negatively influence on firm’s performance. Avoiding and mitigating disruptions in the supply chain is one of the main challenges for supply chain managers.Originality/value: This paper identifies the ISO 31000, the ISO 9001 and the use of an FMEA to analyze supply chain risks in a structured manner and to outline future research opportunities in the field of SCRM.

Supply chain management paradigms are becoming increasingly common management perspectives all over the world due to violent global competition of trade organizations and rapid changes in technology. In recent years, thanks to the communication improvements, customers have become more conscious about purchasing goods or services. Furthermore, organizations have to be customer oriented and more flexible against the dynamism of supply chain environment which increases uncertainties in supply chain parameters. Although a considerable amount of risk factors appearing in supply chain operations, this study concentrates on detecting key supply chain risks which could cause abnormalities and occur from rapid changes in customer demand, unpredictable price fluctuations, defect variations and delivery delays and provides the correction of these problems automatically. Thus, a system dynamics model is established for determining risks. This combined approach would be helpful for integrated supply chain risk management.

Risk is inherent in all parts of life and brings consequences, but when it specifically emerges in supply chains, it is susceptible. Therefore, this study aims at identifying and assessing supply chain risks and developing criteria for managing these risks. Supply chain (SC) risks consist of complex, uncertain, and vague information, but risk assessment techniques in the literature have been unable to handle complexity, uncertainty, and vagueness. Therefore, this study presents a holistic approach to supply chain risk management. In this paper, neutrosophic (N) theory is merged with the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) to deal with complexity, uncertainty, and vagueness. Then the proposed methodology is practically implemented through a case study on the automotive industry. SC resilience, SC agility, and SC robustness were selected as criteria for managing supply chain risks and analyzed using N-AHP. Furthermore, seventeen risks were identified and assessed by using N-TOPSIS. Results suggest supply chain resilience is the most important criterion for managing supply chain risks. Moreover, supplier delivery delays, supplier quality problems, supplier communication failures, and forecasting errors are the most vulnerable risks that occur in supply chains of the automotive industry in Pakistan.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to determine if internal integration, information sharing, and training constitute direct antecedents to organizations’ warning and recovery capabilities. Assuming that organizations periodically face various supply chain risks, the authors intend to show that managers can develop these antecedent competencies in ways that bolster their supply chain risk management (SCRM) capabilities. Design/methodology/approach To understand the relationships between the antecedents and SCRM capabilities, the authors used Q-sorts and confirmatory factor analysis to develop new warning and recovery measures. The authors then collected survey data from 231 hospital supply managers and analyzed these records using structural equation modeling. Findings The results indicate that internal integration and training positively affect organizations’ warning and recovery capabilities, in both a direct and indirect manner. The authors also illustrate how managers can leverage their SCRM capabilities to affect operational performance. Research limitations/implications These results suggest that by developing antecedent competencies like internal integration and training, firms may bolster their warning and recovery capabilities, and ultimately operational performance of the organization. Originality/value The findings provide hospital supply organizations and other inventory management teams with a novel approach to managing an evolving array of supply chain risks. Rather than investing in costly risk management techniques, like inventory stocks, organizations can use internal integration and training to improve their SCRM capabilities.

Cocoa is one of the plantation commodities whose role is quite important for the national economy of Indonesia. However, the cocoa industry faces several problems including the various risks involved in the cocoa supply chain. The aim of this study were: 1) Identifying risks in the cocoa supply chain 2) Analyzing the members of the supply chain with the highest risk 3) Evaluating and mitigating cocoa supply chain risks effectively and efficiently. An integrated analytic network process (ANP) and weighted failure mode effect analysis (WFMEA) method will be used to determine and analyze the highest risk in the cocoa supply chain. The results of the priority of the members of the value chain in the cocoa supply chain risk management are SMEs (0.43801), with the risk having the highest priority is production risk (0.29262) as well as alternative strategic priorities namely by increasing income (0.28754). The results of risk control are mainly focused on efforts to increase the income of cocoa farmers by utilizing cocoa processing byproducts such as cocoa bean pulp and cocoa pod husks. The cocoa bean pulp can be processed into nata products and cocoa juice, while the cocoa pod skin can be used as fertilizer.


Supply chain risk management is an important aspect of every organisation. Each supply chain risks has a different effect on the performance of supply chain, due to the various characteristics of supply chain risk variables like level of impact, probability of occurrence, cost of anticipation. Therefore, it is very important for supply chain mangers to analyse and evaluate the relative importance of each risk variable to proactively plan for them and determine their priority. This study aims to evaluate and prioritize of the major supply chain risks, by using AHP methodology. Indian manufacturing organisation needs to pay conspicuous attention in the field of supply chain risk management and I hope that this research article would provide additional dimensions in the same context.
