Risk occurance in the supply chain is unavoidable. Basically, a great portion of these risks comes from suppliers. Timely identification of the risks and using appropriate preventive actions to reduce the probability and impact of their occurrence play a significant role in increasing organizational efficiency, improving product quality and satisfying customers. Developing a systematic and efficient mechanism is a prerequisite for properly identifying and assessing the supply chain risks and making correct decision. Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is a known engineering technique and risk assessment tool to define, identify, and eliminate potential failures and errors in the products, processes, projects, and services. In this paper, FMEA approach is combined with multi-criteria decision-making techniques to make a systematic mechanism for assessing supply chain risks and prioritizing candidate flour suppliers in Sahar bread industrial group. In the proposed model, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to determine the risk’s weights and VIKOR method is applied for assessing and ranking the suppliers. Results shew that among the identified risks, “cost risk group” with the weight "0.43" is the most important. Therefor the company officials have to adopt appropriate policies, carefully, to deal with this risk. Moreover, final evaluation of flour suppliers in the company indicates that according to all criteria, the fourth supplier achieves the highest priority and it is selected as the most qualified flour supplier for the company.

This study proposes a novel evaluation model for lawyer selection incorporating the lawyer’s backbone leadership attitude employing the hybrid multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach. In the proposed approach, the lawyer’s backbone leadership attitude is employed as an evaluation factor in the evaluation model for lawyer selection from law firms’ perspective. In this paper, a hybrid approach based on the Delphi technique and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is proposed to manage qualitative and quantitative criteria for selecting the best alternative lawyer for law firms in China. Finally, a law firm in China is carried out to verify the feasibility of the proposed approach. Based on the result, the backbone leadership does provide valuable information in the evaluation model for lawyer selection. The results also revealed that the proposed approach would help law firms and human resource managers to understand and develop strategies to hire a lawyer.

The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is one of the widely accepted and frequently used priority assessment methods. A number of studies, which employed the AHP method, have already been carried out in different domains to support their multi-criteria decision-making definitions and applications. However, few researchers have paid attentions to extract and represent the important concepts and their relationships from the AHP method itself. The aim of this study is firstly to propose a way for representing the AHP method as an AHP Ontology together with a set of reasoning rules. Then, a prototype assessment tool is developed to show the possibility of obtaining more flexibility and reusability of this ontological representation.

In recent years, supply chains have become increasingly vulnerable to risks resulting in poor financial performance and customer service. Managing the supply chain risks is a challenging task. Resilience and responsiveness based strategies are being attempted to build a robust supply chain. To select the appropriate mitigation strategies, supply chain risks are to be prioritized. Supply chain risk prioritization is a Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) problem. MCDM models for supply chain risk prioritization needs attention. In this research, a hybrid Analytic Hierarch Process (AHP) and Preference Ranking Organization METHod for Enrichment Evaluation (PROMETHEE) approach is proposed for supply chain risk prioritization. A case example of a typical tractor industry is presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed approach.

In contemporary supply chain management, a company’s performance is largely dependent on its strategic choice of suppliers. The complexity of supplier evaluation and selection is driving the development of novel support techniques and their integration into multi-criteria decision-making processes. This review identifies the most prevalent approaches in the supply chain management literature (1998–2018), analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of these approaches, and discusses the most popular supplier selection attributes. The non-conventional, emerging methods in domain literature are also discussed, and future research directions are proposed. Supplier selection approaches are classified into individual, integrated, and non-conventional approaches. To overcome the limitations associated with these tools when used individually, most of the published works have used integrated techniques, among which integrated fuzzy and analytic hierarchy process methods are most popular. We conclude that while some of the methodologies are common, the more non-conventional approaches, such as market utility-based models, are rarely used in the supplier selection literature, leaving much opportunity to further develop these less-used approaches and, ultimately, aid decision-makers in supply chain management.

Business enterprises need to show high performance in their industries in order to achieve a sustainable competition. This is not related only to individual performances, and each link on supply chain may have a considerable effect on business performance. Therefore, supply chain management is quite essential to the enterprises that supplier selection is one of its key elements to be run, and another is establishing the form of packaging before the supplier delivers the ordered raw materials. Raw material costs are influenced by the ability to determine such issues as packaging way, type of case, etc., and these factors are also important to maintain the quality of material. The aim of this study is to select the type of the case for raw materials to be placed in by the supplier, in the automobile industry with very intense competition. In order to solve this multi-criteria decision making problem, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), one of the multi-criteria decision making techniques, was used. Due to the ambiguity in several paired comparisons, the problem was also resolved using the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (Fuzzy AHP).

Purpose The purpose of this study is to measure the supply chain competitiveness of the e-commerce industry in Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach The study used a multi-criteria decision-making model based on the analytic hierarchy process. Four main criteria are used to measure the supply chain competitiveness, i.e. cost, differentiation, sustainability and infrastructure. Findings The findings of this study show that cost is the most important criterion with a degree of importance of 33.19%, followed by infrastructure of 29.40%, differentiation of 27.96% and sustainability of 9.45%. It shows that the internally controlled strategy contributes about 70% of supply chain competitiveness. The internal infrastructure criterion that consists of software and hardware contributes 65.92% to the whole infrastructure criterion. The internal infrastructure then contributes 19.38% to supply chain competitiveness. Therefore, the internally controlled strategies and internal infrastructure contribute up to 90.08% to the supply chain competitiveness of e-commerce in Indonesia. This result implies that to attain the supply chain competitiveness, the company must carry out strategies focusing on the performance such as cost, differentiation, sustainability as well as on the internal infrastructure such as software and hardware. Research limitations/implications In this paper, the authors limited their study to the business to business (B2B) and business to consumer (B2C) players because these two platforms have been experiencing a very rapid growth. While e-commerce business can take many platforms besides B2B and B2C, the future research should include other platform such as consumer to consumer as well. Because the focus in this study is more the information and material flows, it will be of great interest if the future research covers the platform of mobile payment as well that guarantee the ease of cashflows within supply chains. Also, with the occurrence of the Covid-19 pandemic when this paper was written, in the near future, it is then of great interest to incorporate the pandemic context into the proposed model used in this study. The further study should analyze long-term changes happened as the result of pandemic such as behavioral changes of online shopping from customer side or shift in e-commerce supply chain infrastructure and inventory practice. Practical implications With this study, it is expected that it can be determined which criteria contribute the most to the supply chain competitiveness of the e-commerce industry in Indonesia that will be useful for industry player. Originality/value E-commerce development in Indonesia is still facing serious challenges. The multi-criteria decision making approach used in this research lays a foundation of how supply chain competitiveness is determined based on the judgment of experts coming from major companies within the supply chain.

The COVID-19 emergency is affecting manufacturing industries all over the world. Notably, it has generated several issues in the products’ supply and the global value chain in African countries. Besides this, Africa’s manufacturing value-added rate grew only 1.5 since 2018, and the foreign direct investment (FDI) from multinational enterprises (MNEs) remains very low due to high-risk factors. Most of these factors are linked to a non-optimized location selection that can adversely affect plant performance. For these reasons, supporting decision-makers in selecting the suitable country location in Africa is crucial, both for contributing to countries’ growth and companies’ performance. This research aims at presenting a comprehensive multi-criteria decision-making model (MCDM) to be used by MNEs to evaluate the best countries to develop new manufacturing settlements, highlighting the criteria that COVID-19 has impacted. Thus, it has affected countries’ performance, impacting the plant location selection choices. A combination of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) methods have also been used for comparative analysis. The criteria used in the proposed approach have been validated with a panel of MNEs experts.

This paper considers four types of the most prominent risks in the supply chain. Their subcriteria and relations between them and within the network are also considered. In a supply chain, risks are mostly created by fluctuations. The aim of this study is to adopt a strategy for eliminating or reducing risks in a supply chain network. Having various solutions helps the supply chain to be resilient. Therefore, five alternatives are considered, namely, total quality management (TQM), leanness, alignment, adaptability, and agility. This paper develops a new network of supply chain risks by considering the interactions between risks. Perhaps, the network elements have interacted with some or all of the factors (clusters) or subfactors. We constitute supply chain risks in the analytic network process (ANP), which attracted less attention in the previous studies. Most of the studies about making a decision in supply chains have been applied in analytic hierarchy process (AHP) network. The present study considers the ANP as a well-known multicriteria decision making (MCDM) technique to choose the best alternative, because of the interdependency and feedbacks of different levels of the network. Finally, the ANP selects TQM as the best alternative among the considered ones.
