In this study ferric oxide sols solutions were prepared in presence of different electrolyte and their zeta potentials were measured by simplified electrophoreses method with protective semi membrane filters. In this study, the critical coagulation concentration (CCC) for FEBEX bentonite colloids is determined by colloid coagulation studies under variation of pH, electrolyte concentration, and fulvic acid (GoHy-573FA) content. For CaCl2 electrolyte solution, a pH-independent Ca-CCC of 1 mmol L−1 is found. In the case of NaCl background electrolyte, a pH-dependent Na-CCC can be determined with 15 ± 5 mmol L−1 at pH 6, 20 ± 5 mmol L−1 at pH 7, 200 ± 50 mmol L−1 at pH 8, 250 ± 50 mmol L−1 at pH 9, and 350 ± 100 mmol L−1 at pH 10, respectively. The addition of 1 mg L−1 dissolved organic carbon in the form of fulvic acid (FA) increases the Ca-CCC to 2 mmol L−1. An association of FA with FEBEX bentonite colloids as surface coating can clearly be identified by scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM). The experimental bentonite stability results are described by means of an extended DLVO (Derjaguin–Landau–Verwey–Overbeek) approach summing up hydration forces, short-range Born repulsion, van der Waals attraction, and electrical double layer repulsion. The measured zeta (ζ)-potential of the bentonite colloids is applied as platelet face electrokinetic potential and the edge electrokinetic potential is estimated by the combination of silica and alumina ζ-potential data in the ratio given by the FEBEX bentonite structural formula. Adjusting the montmorillonite face electrokinetic potential by a maximum of ±15.9 mV is sufficient to successfully reproduce the measured stability ratios. Due to the uncertainty in the ζ-potential measurement, only semiquantitative calculations of the stability ratio can be given.

AbstractHydroxyapatite (HAp) is widely used as bioceramics for bone and dental tissue reconstructions due to its excellent biocompatibility with hard tissues and high osteoconductivity. Although it is well known that HAp has the high adsorbed ability, its ability is decreased in high ionic solution. To immobilize protein on the HAp surface, this study demonstrates that Collagen (Col) and fibronectin (Fnt) were immobilized on the surface of hydroxyapatite (HAp) sintered body with and without the silane coupling agent of aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APS). The proteins immobilized on the HAp and APS/HAp surfaces were investigated by atomic force microprobe (AFM, Simadzu; SPM 9500) analyses and Ζ potential measurements. The stability of protein/APS/HAp and protein/HAp composites was evaluated after immersion in phosphate buffer and NaCl solutions with various concentrations. AFM analyses and Ζ potential measurements revealed that proteins immobilized on the APS/HAp are more stable than those immobilized on the HAp in high ionic solutions.

<p>This study aims at developing an analytical procedure capable of quantifying the ferric oxide present in the mixture of ferric oxide/lactose monohydrate (0.4% w/w). The analytical procedure was checked for specificity, linearity, precision (system repeatability, procedure repeatability and intermediate precision), accuracy, stability of solutions and robustness of the procedure. The concentration of Fe (III) was determined by spectrophotometry at 480 nm based on calibration curves. The specificity was verified. The linearity was obtained in the range of 11.2 to 16.8 µg of ferric oxide/mL. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of the system repeatability, procedure repeatability and intermediate precision, were not more than 2%. The RSD of the accuracy values were less than 0.75%. The stability of the samples was checked over a 24 hours assay. In the robustness evaluation, the wavelength and the concentration of hydrochloric acid varied. The maximum absorbance deviation due to wavelength variation was 0.14 percent, and the maximum deviation due to the hydrochloric acid concentration variation was 2.4%, indicating that the concentration of hydrochloric acid is critical to the analysis of ferric oxide. The procedure developed was validated and is suitable to the performance qualification of powder mixers.</p>

Lanthanum Chromite may used as interconnect for SOFC’s applications due its particular intrinsic properties as stability in both oxidant and reducing environments and electrical conductivity. However to manufacture these devices that generally present complex shapes as grooved plates and fine pipes, they are necessary the use of the conformation techniques such as screen printing, slip casting, tape casting, extrusion moulding, etc. that are related with colloid processing. Independent of the processing techniques chosen the control of the suspension conditions is important to obtain reproducibility and homogeneous products as final result. In this sense, all contribution to understand the behaviour of the LaCrO3 fine particles in liquid suspension as the surface state using the Zeta’s Potential concepts may supplies information by the forecast of the behaviour during the shaped processing. The aqueous suspensions behaviour was studied utilizing doped lanthanum chromite powders, attained by combustion synthesis. The eletrophoretic mobility measurements of particles in suspension, prepared with the different conditioned powders were made. The electrolyte compositions as function of the pH varying from 2 to 12 were tested. The Zeta potentials and the stability conditions for stable suspensions prepared were determined. The viscosity curves are also appraised.
