Increased competition between higher education institutions has driven them to seek ways to increase demand to improve your results. Yield Management meets this need as a support management tool that works the balance between demand and supply in order to maximize revenue. Within this context, this study aims to analyze how the Yield Management can be used to optimize the revenue of an undergraduate degree at a distance of a top community college. Therefore, the study involves the application of exploratory research, qualitative approach in the form of case study. Data collection was conducted through interviews. From the results found that: i) the institution has the necessary requirements for the application of Yield Management Tool; ii) there is a decrease in enrollment in the past two semesters and that the strategies used by the course are not enough to fill the vacancies offered; iii) that the proposed model will allow the course has strategies for the balance between supply and demand, increasing enrollment and thus becoming more competitive.

Based on these assumptions, this article aimed to fnd what the expansion of higher education in the state of Mato Grosso was, analyzing the data of the State University of Mato Grosso (Unemat) and how the expansion enabled the municipalities’ development. The research is characterized as an exploratory research with a quantitative approach, with the completion of a case study. Data were analyzed from two censuses of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE): 2000 and 2010 and found out with the data collected that Unemat increased the number of courses and the number of jobs during the decade demonstrating evidence of contribution to increases in GDP and IDHM of the municipalities in which the university operates. Keywords: Education. Inventory management in reverse logistics is more complex than that in conventional logistics because of uncontrollable factors such as inventory levels increasing from reverse logistics, greater-than-expected disposal, and balance of supply and demand with changing market trends. This paper proposes a new economic order quantity (EOQ) model for reuse and recycling by expanding the EOQ model proposed by Dobos and Richter, 2004. The proposed model introduces a sequentially accumulated marginal reuse rate as a parameter in considering the balance of product demand and supply. The marginal reuse rate is calculated by using data on production distribution and disposal distribution of products for every discretized period. This model considers the sequence among recovery options: reuse, recycle and disposal. Parts are reused after having been inspected to determine whether they are reusable or not. Remaining nonreusable parts are recycled and any remaining nonrecycled parts disposed of. The extended EOQ model is applied to a case study using different scenarios for length of use and multiple generations of products. Results of computer experiments confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method.

With a changing landscape of higher education institutions (HEIs), the authors explore the concepts of a platform business model in the context of university career services. Through an inductive, multiyear case study of an HEI, this study analyzes how university career services can innovate and transform by operating as a platform. This exploratory research bridges the gap between HEIs and business by applying a well-developed theoretical framework for platform business models to HEIs.

Purpose This paper aims to analyze strategies that promote sustainability in higher education institutions (HEIs), focusing on the case study of a federal institute of higher education in Brazil. Design/methodology/approach The research was based on a scientific literature review on sustainability in HEIs, to identify the recurrent actions for sustainability in these institutions; and a case study of a federal institute of higher education in Brazil, to illustrate how these actions are being implemented by HEIs. Findings Concerns about sustainability, prompted by the Brazilian federal legislature, led federal HEI to change its internal processes, infrastructure and organizational culture toward sustainability. Practical implications The findings presented in this study, more specifically the sustainability plan of the Federal Institute for Education, Science and Technology of Santa Catarina, aligned with the recommendations proposed, can be used and replicated in other HEIs. Originality/value Scientific literature about organizational changes led by sustainability concerns, in HEIs specifically, still needs more attention in the academia. By addressing the case of a Brazilian public institution of higher education, this paper contributes to the literature on sustainability in higher education by reporting the process of implementation of a sustainability plan.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in higher education for imparting easily accessible, affordable and quality higher education leading to the uplift of Malaysia. The focus of the paper is on the benefits that ICT integration in education can provide, right from breaking time and distance barriers to facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing among geographically distributed students. ICT increases the flexibility of delivery of education so that learners can access knowledge anytime and anywhere. It can influence the way students are taught and how they learn as now the processes are learner driven and not by teachers. This in turn would better prepare the learners for lifelong learning as well as to contribute to the industry. We will also analyze if ICT does indeed improve or hinder the quality of learning among higher education students. This paper reports on the changing trends in use of ICTs for instruction in higher education institutions (HEIs) and discusses a mini-case study of how ICTs are being used by lecturers in one university in Malaysia.
