A 200-year history of the University of Warsaw invites to take a closer look at the student community. The years 1918–1939 were a period of an increased social activity of the students. This article presents some of the initiatives they were involved in, with special focus on “Brotherly Help”, an organisation that supported students who were less well-off. An insight into the student community of the years 1918–1939 reveals new capacities for research. The analysis could be expanded by such topics as: the students’ membership in other university organisations, their affiliation to scientific groups, or career path after studies. It is worth noting that many graduates remained actively involved in the social, cultural, and political life of Poland after their studies.

(Based on the materials from the archive of the Department of Social Hygiene of Kazan University) .. Another old doctor-populist and social activist, the glorious son of Kazan University, V Ladimir Nikolaevich Zolotnitsky, has passed away; left at a ripe old age - 77 years old, but continued to work almost until his last days. His work until his last days was to take an active interest in the life of the present and the past. In particular, he was keenly interested in the anniversary of our university. One of the first responded to my letter "To old doctors - citizens of Kazan" on the occasion of the anniversary with a request to send materials to the history of the university, VN was one of the first to respond. During January and February of this year, he corresponded with me; he delivered valuable materials about his life to our department , memories of the past, sent all his published works. He put me in touch with Prof. A?. V. Portugalov, the son of a scholar, writer - publicist, until the anniversary and will be a guest of honor at this university festival as the oldest student of the university. But the laws of biology decided otherwise: V.N.Zolotnitsky celebrated his 50th anniversary of medical and social activity, celebrated the 75th anniversary of his life, celebrated the formal historical date of the 125th anniversary of his university, but did not live 21/2 months before the solemn anniversary.

The main purpose of the paper was to present the scientific input and achievements of the Wroclaw school of accounting studies at Wroclaw University of Economics in the area of management accounting development in Poland in the post-war period, early in the history of the University. Conclusions presented in this paper are formulated on the basis of literature studies conducted by the author, with a special focus on the wealth of information published by the leading representatives of the Wroclaw centre, particularly in the area of management accounting. The paper offers insight into the work of the most prominent figures of the Wroclaw school and their roles in the initiation and evolution of the management accounting science in Poland. Analyses suggest that many of the scientific observations reported by the centre, both in the form of articles and non-serial printed publications, were consistent with the leading academic modes of approach to management accounting, not only in Poland, but also in the international dimension. Important publications in management accounting can be found in the scientific output of many researchers and academics of the Wroclaw school of accounting studies, with the most prominent figures rightly considered as precursors and pioneers of management accounting in Poland. In addition, the study provides evidence to confirm strong associations linking the evolution of management accounting studies at the Wroclaw centre with the current socio-economic transformations and turbulent conditions of economic operation observed in the post-war period.

For today the social activity of Carpatho-Ukrainian students in Brno is known to be the least studied issue in the history of the Carpatho-Ukrainian student movement in the period of interwar Czechoslovakia. Based on all available archival and published sources, in this study the attempt is made to reconstruct and analyse the process of formation and development of public activity of Ukrainian students (natives of modern Transcarpathian region (Ukraine) and Presov self-governing region (the Slovak Republic)), who in the 1920 – 1930s studied at higher education institutions in Brno (the University named after Masaryk, High Technical School, High Vet School). The author of the article states that the social activity of Carpatho-Ukrainian students in Brno developed in several stages. The first stage is the second half of the 1920s, the period when Prague student associations such as the Ukrainophile Union of Subcarpathian Students; and the Russophile society Vozrozhdenie (Rebirth) extended their activities in Brno some local students not only became their members but also formed some of their non-formal centers in Brno (e.g. Union of Subcarpathian Ruthenian Students). However, due to the decrease in the number of Carpatho-Ukrainian students at local universities, this process soon slowed down. Next stage is the second half of 1930s. At that time, relatively large independent Carpatho-Ukrainian student organizations – Russophile Society Verkhovina (1936) and the Subcarpathian Academic Society (1937) formed and gradually intensified in their activity in Brno. However, due to the political situation in the Czechoslovak Republic in 1938 – 1939, their activities ended. More information about the issue discussed in the article can be found in the original documents kept at the archival institutions of Brno.

Non procul ex proprio stipite poma cadunt, or the Life of the „two Kolosvárys” in the Mirror of the Univerity History. In my study, I intend to introduce the history of the Faculty. The study outlines the life’s work of father and son, who are closely related to the legal history embedded in the history of the University. They both were closely connected with the city, and in addition to their teaching activities they also played an active role in the social life of Cluj-Napoca: they were chief editors of the papers and presidents of scientific and civil associations. Alexander Kolosváry has played a prominent role in the life of the University and within the Faculty of Law. He was four times the dean of the Faculty and once held the post of rector. In addition, he coproduced the Hungarian translation of Tripartitum and Corpus Juris Hungarici with Professor Clement Óvári. Valentine Kolosváry was considered one of the biggest private lawyers of the century at the time. Valentine Kolosváry was a worthy successor to his father, not only as a head of department at the University but also in the patronage of the Reformed Church of John Calvin and Church Districts and its rights.

AbstractThis article argues that German universities have changed in structure and style and in doing so have distanced themselves from the classic university ideal. This thesis will be illustrated with examples. This development has led to changes that make it plausible to speak of a decline of academic style and professorial culture. Even though almost all reform writings promise not to touch the legacy of the classical university idea, the continuous reform processes (regulation of the university and compartmentalization of disciplines) have made it increasingly difficult to uphold the university's independence. These external developments have also had an effect on the social climate and the respectful cooperation of professors, staff, and students. Even if such blanket statements do not apply everywhere, the reforms should nevertheless keep the history of the university in mind and maintain ,,as much Humboldt as possible."
