The article describes a case study concerning the implementation of the principles of sustainable development in Borne Sulinowo, where the author investigates the effect of using event marketing activities as a tool for marketing a tourism product and a regenerated post-military tourism space. The aim of the article is to show how event marketing can be used as a tool supporting the development of tourism space created in the process of revitalisation of various areas, especially post-military ones, and to identify elements that can be used by local authorities to develop and promote their tourism space taking into account requirements of sustainable development (a given space should be revitalised in a specific way and, if possible, restored to its former status). The analysis is based on a case study of a rally of military vehicles organised annually since 2004 in Borny Sulinowo as part of the process of revitalisation of the town space. The study is based on data collected in the process of participant observation and on a review of available literature and online resources. The author demonstrates that mass events can be used as a way of promoting a tourism product that is being created and can directly or indirectly help to achieve particular objectives set out in the revitalisation programme. They can also can be used to dispell concerns of the local community by highlighting benefits and opportunities associated with the changes taking place.

Formatting a tourist product: the rural attractive characterization at Terra dos Pinheirais (PR, Brazil) ABSTRACT The modernization process of agriculture at the same time provided an increase to production rates, ensuring the necessary food for the population and caused a decrease in the need for labor in the field, thus disrupting traditional forms of production. As consequence, part of this population migrated to the cities, others needed to seek new sources of income, increasing its production of raw materials for activities with non-agricultural characteristics. Parallel to this process, the countryside become no longer seen only as a space for agricultural production and it has to be considered also as a place of recreation, housing, rest, and other new functions. Among this amalgam of new activities in rural areas, the tourism has emerged as an activity capable of generating income and encourage people to remain in the countryside. Once given this context, the place Pinho de Baixo, inside Irati (PR, Brazil), that has wineries, museum that depicts the colonization of the italians at the city (called Casa Dei Nonni) and the traditional feast of cooked corn meal, had started activities related to tourism from april 2016, aiming to diversify the supply of products based by community-based. Besides these features, is in the Pinho de Baixo some natural tourism resources as waterfall, preserved landscapes and the site also receives one of the stages of the event "CicloturismoIrati", also consolidated in the municipal events calendar. Thus, in order to verify the potential of the tourism product, the paper objective is to characterize this investigation the elements of this new attractive, through the analysis of the tourist site signage, inventory of activities and qualitative analysis of the current offer available. The methodology was relied on primary data collection, obtained from semi-structured by participant observation and non-participatory observation in loco during the month of July 2016 and by application of SWOT method for measuring the data. The results suggest the need a greater involvement of the local community, the expansion of supply, as well as its qualitative improvement, installation of signposts with orientation, restriction and education messages, and the addition to the product image promotion. As a practical planning, strategies are evaluated for the achievement of the results, characterizing this study as an applied research with bias on environmental, economic, social and cultural sustainability. AbstractUnderstanding the causal factors of livelihood challenges and associated vulnerabilities is essential for developing viable adaptation strategies. However, clarifying which livelihood challenges can be attributed to which causal factors remains a challenge. In this paper, we used a case study in Vanuatu to show how local populations attribute subsistence challenges to underlying causes. Particularly, we are interested in whether there is a tendency to view climate change as the primary cause, and if so, why. We followed a participatory approach involving local community members and experts at all stages of the study process. For this, we used complementary research methods such as resource mapping, participant observation, and in-depth interviews with local community members and local agriculture experts. The results show that local populations are indeed inclined to attribute problems to external causes, particularly climate change. However, the results also indicate that this external attribution is not definitive. Rather, we find that over the course of participatory reflection, attribution to climate change was supplemented and even replaced by internal causal factors, such as changes in garden practices. Our findings suggest that the initial emphasis on climate change may be related to prevailing narratives that may have influenced individual perceptions of the study participants and created social desirability. If such bias is not recognized, the narratives risk being reified, with potential new insights being overlooked. As a result, local attribution may overstate or understate specific causes, such as climate change.

This archive draws on archival sources to study the Great Fire in Yeniseysk in 1869 and its consequences for development of this northern provincial town. The research derives its novelty from the first publication of documents of the State Archive of the Krasnoyarsk Krai and that of the Irkutsk Region, which describe measures of fire response and name benefactors. Historical approach allows to place specific patterns of local community in the context of social history of the 20th century. Anthropological approach allows to identify means and modes of surviving in a natural disaster. The fire clamed about 200 lives, destroyed all wooden buildings in the town, and disrupted daily activities of more than 7 thousand Yeniseysk citizens. At present, such disasters are considered as more than just local disasters. From the religious point of view, such natural disasters disrupt the balance and harmony of the God's world and require worldwide effort to set it to rights. The case-study of the Yeniseysk community concludes that actions of a person within the fire storm were determined not just by self-preservation, but also by responsibility for the lives of those around them. People appealed to church for help. Many Yeniseysk priests rose to the occasion as their vocation demanded. The archival documents show how rapidly the nation responded to the disaster. The case-study of Yeniseysk in 1869-1871 demonstrates an array of measures aiming to attract external resources. The activities were based on Christian principles of communal spirit and charity, community help and civic cooperation in joined efforts of state and public institutions, private and corporate donors. The article concludes that effective moneyed assistance and social support significantly decreased the severity of losses.

Abstract This article is a case study from the APA São Francisco Xavier, located in the municipality of São José dos Campos-SP, and aims to evaluate the effectiveness of this UC category as an instrument of territorial planning to fulfill its role of reconciling conservation and socio-economic development, based on the sustainable use of natural resources. This study applied multi-methods - both qualitative and quantitative approaches - using fieldwork, participant observation, questionnaires, and geoprocessing to collect and analyze both primary and secondary data. The results demonstrate that APA promotes conservation, but is not free from threats and does not have effective and permanent means to guarantee the promotion of socio-economic development based on the sustainable use of its natural resources. The study suggests that territorial planning should be articulated between the levels of government, its different agencies, and the local community.
