AbstractEco-communities are a potential model for the socio-technological transition to a post-carbon society. The debate over their economic sustainability has, however, been limited. This article aims to enhance the discussion by offering a conceptualization of the economic micro-system created in eco-communities. It uses the economic terms households and firms to discuss two ways in which the community economy is positioned and then goes on to explore the principles behind the non-market (non-monetary) activities of households and the not-only-for-profit activities of firms as the basis of the eco-community economy. It concludes by pointing out that both can operate in parallel, with eco-communities producing non-market capital that can be used to develop not-only-for-profit activities which support the economic sustainability of the projects.

This article reflects on a research project that has mapped the ways in which social enterprises in regional Australian cities produce wellbeing for their employees. The majority of enterprises in this study offer supported work opportunities to people with a disability while also running commercially viable enterprises delivering goods and services to regional communities. These enterprises demonstrate the challenges and the potential for organisations in regional settings to contribute in meaningful ways, not only to the wellbeing of the workers they support, but to the wellbeing of the broader community. This article considers how social enterprises are understood to be contributing to regional communities and situates them as key actors in a community economy that contributes to wider community wellbeing as distinct from individual wellbeing.

The seaport, as a link of the transport chain, is oriented towards the development of the maritime system of the country and the summit place of traffic slope from all transport routes and means of transport. While the city, as a community of residents, is oriented towards promoting the well-being of citizens and the quality of their lives, so it strives to ecological, cultural and visual values. This relation of interest is merely one of the numerous relations of interest of the relevant stakeholders in the planning and development of the seeports in relation to the spatial concept of cities deriving from a constrained coexistence in a restricted area – as two separate entities whose interests and objectives appear to be different at first sight. In this paper, the relations of interest of the relevant stakeholders have been analyzed, quantitative and qualitative variables have been evaluated that influence the development of the seaports in relation to the spatial concept of the city. The research has highlighted the need to look at and analyze all relevant stakeholders interests, of which the most important are: state – local community, state – managing body of the port, state – economy, local community – managing body of the port, local community – economy and economy – managing body of the port.

<p><em>The objectives of this research were to: (1) identify the potentials of fish resources </em><em>in  Klaten regency which can be developed as the economic generator of the community; (2) analyze the provision of fish products to support food security and safety for the surroundng region; (3) analyze the process of managing fish to perform food safety and security; 4) analyze the supporting factors of  fish resources management in Klaten to develop the community economy; 5) analyze the constraints of managing fish resources in Klaten to develop the community economy; 6) analyze the policy and programs of the local Government of Klaten in developing the potenstials of fish resources; particularly fish cultivation; and (7) formulize an appropriate method to manage fish resources to improve the community economy and support food security and safety.</em><em> </em><em>This research applied descriptive approach and was qualitative in nature. Data were collected using several methods including site observation, in-depth interview, focus group discussion, document study, and super impose. Sampling technique used in this research were </em><em>purposive sampling and snowball. Data were analyzed using (1) Human Resources Analysis (2) Policy Analysis (3) Interactive Analysis.</em><em> </em><em>Research results include: (1) method to manage fish resources to improve the community economy and support the food security and safety; 2) </em><em>recommendation in the form of Memorandum of Understanding (</em><em>MOU) related to the method to manage fish resources to improve the community economy and support the food security and safety; and 3) handouts concerning method to manage fish resources to improve the community economy and support the food security and safety.</em></p>

The Lord’s Grove

This chapter focuses on Herrnhaag, “the Lord's Grove,” the refugee settlement founded by Count Nicholas Zinzendorf in 1738. It flourished for only a dozen years, and its population never exceeded a thousand, yet it was the prototype for almost every city of refuge that would follow. This is not because it consolidated ideas about community, economy, and geometry in an unusually forceful way but because it was carried by a religion with a worldwide reach. This is the Unitas Fratrum (Unity of the Brethren), known in German as die Brüdergemeine and in English as the Moravian Church. The Moravians' settlements were the first examples of villages designed and built by a vibrant religious community that made them a formal instrument of theology.
