Many modern dynamical systems, such as smart grids and traffic networks, rely on user data for efficient operation. These data often contain sensitive information that the participating users do not wish to reveal to the public. One major challenge is to protect the privacy of participating users when utilizing user data. Over the past decade, differential privacy has emerged as a mathematically rigorous approach that provides strong privacy guarantees. In particular, differential privacy has several useful properties, including resistance to both postprocessing and the use of side information by adversaries. Although differential privacy was first proposed for static-database applications, this review focuses on its use in the context of control systems, in which the data under processing often take the form of data streams. Through two major applications—filtering and optimization algorithms—we illustrate the use of mathematical tools from control and optimization to convert a nonprivate algorithm to its private counterpart. These tools also enable us to quantify the trade-offs between privacy and system performance.

New technological advances based on software, hardware and new materials must be implemented in smart grids. In addition, these advanced electrical grids must incorporate elements of artificial intelligence. Advances in software development must be complemented with the development of new hardware (power electronics and active distribution among others). The aforementioned must rely on the development of new materials and sensors, which should be integrated into the smart grid. Therefore, the four areas of research based on the technologies are: Operation and Control, Maintenance and Lifespan Management, Grid Planning and Design, and Metering. The review presents the algorithms, materials, devices and others paradigms applied to smart grids, classifying the works according to the four areas of research. This review has focused on the four fundamental pillars of smart grids, on the one hand, the need for more efficient operation and control, followed by advanced maintenance management, to continue planning and designing the new grids, and for conclude with the advanced measurement. As you will see in the article, new devices, new techniques, and future scenarios will make possible the transition from the current grid to the future smart grid.

Currently, different advanced technologies are implemented in power networks, with aim to improve power quality and reliability of grid operation. Naturally, Distribution Automation and Management Systems (DAMS), Smart power equipment, Advanced Metering Structure, Distributed Energy Resources and/or systems Demand Response are implemented in electricity distribution networks. Smart Grid Solutions coordinate different advanced technologies in an efficient energy management system. Outline Smart Grid Solutions, with investments of estimation, possible benefits and operation costs, is presented in this article, with estimation of cost-effectiveness in a lifetime of particular systems.

This paper provides an overview of the controls and diagnostics technologies, that are seen as critical for more intelligent gas turbine engines (GTE), with an emphasis on the sensor and actuator technologies that need to be developed for the controls and diagnostics implementation. The objective of the paper is to help the “Customers” of advanced technologies, defense acquisition and aerospace research agencies, understand the state-of-the-art of intelligent GTE technologies, and help the “Researchers” and “Technology Developers” for GTE sensors and actuators identify what technologies need to be developed to enable the “Intelligent GTE” concepts and focus their research efforts on closing the technology gap. To keep the effort manageable, the focus of the paper is on “On-Board Intelligence” to enable safe and efficient operation of the engine over its life time, with an emphasis on gas path performance.

Smart grid is envisioned to be the technology capable of scheduling user's energy requirement based on demand and decentralized nature. These challenges pose extreme pressure on finding advanced technologies and sustainable solutions for secure and reliable operations of the power system working inside the blockchain technology for managing exchange and trading of energy by means of specific tokens. For efficient utilization and functioning of the power grid we need a decentralised system which is transparent, trustless and makes transactions faster, there are a number of solutions proposed but none of them address the issue of transaction time in trade and penalty for defaulters. In this work we propose here an energy transaction network which implements blockchain technology for validating transaction of energy between producer/consumer or prosumer and saves energy and time using smart grids
