To survive in the global competitive market, the manufacturing organization must adopt changes in technologies and strategies into their processes on a continuous basis. So, nowadays, Lean, Green, and Six Sigma became business process strategies, which are employed in most of the organization to enhance their manufacturing performance. However, the significant information is that these strategies are implemented sequentially instead of simultaneously. The objective of this chapter is to propose an integrated Lean- Green-Six Sigma strategic framework for manufacturing industries that effectively implementing this approach will lead business processes to achieve operational, financial, social, and environmental growth. This will also guide the practitioner and academician those who are working on manufacturing strategies.

Currently, most companies can select a number of methodologies to improve their business processes, including Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, Total Quality Management, Kaizen and Business Process Reengineering (BPR). Obviously, the choice of an appropriate methodology should be guided by the goals of the organization. In this regard, BPR is one of the best methodologies that can help companies ensure the continuity of their business so that they remain relevant for a long time. More importantly, BPR can help members rethink their existing practices and make significant improvements to the existing business process. The authors conducted a study of the theory of BPR. The main definitions are considered in detail, the essence of reengineering is revealed, five stages of implementation are named, possible positive and negative points in the process of BPR implementation are noted, examples are given. Based on the foregoing, it was concluded that companies that need to make changes in their business processes can adopt BPR as the most suitable methodology that will help to make improvements in their workplace.

The Six Sigma approach has received a lot of attention in various industrial sectors from the manufacturing industry to the service industry. More specific knowledge about Six Sigma has grown rapidly. Much of the training and research on Six Sigma is carried out in various industries and university. This literature review related to Six Sigma purpose to provide an overview of Six Sigma implementation in the manufacturing industries.  The Six Sigma approach that has been introduced and implemented for a long time is DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control). This paper discusses the published literature related to Six Sigma ranging from 2015 to 2020. This paper involves the study review of 50 papers related to the implementation of Six Sigma of known database search including Elsevier, Science Direct, Emerald Insight and Google Scholars. This literature review contains results from a variety of different perspectives. The perspective includes the focus of the industry, the focus of the number of distribution by country, the focus of the year of publication and the focus of the number of publishers. In fact, this is useful for all types of manufacturing industries to find solutions to problems. The paper also provides advantages for researchers next to add to the literature.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the quantitative and qualitative benefits accrued by an Indian automotive parts industry through strategic 5S implementation initiatives. Design/methodology/approach The study involves evaluation of steps involved in systematic implementation of 5S program methodology in an automotive manufacturing organization and investigation of achievements accrued by the industry through the successful implementation of 5S program. Findings The empirical results of the study have revealed that effective practice of 5S program brings considerable level of improvements in the quality, production, cost optimizations, employee’s morale values and work culture in the manufacturing industry. The industry accrued both tangible and non-tangible benefits through the holistic adoption of 5S principals. 5S principals have been envisioned to further support other quality improvement programs like lean manufacturing initiatives of the organizations. Research limitations/implications The limitation of the study is that this research has been carried out in only manufacturing industry while similar study will be conducted in the service industry also. Originality/value Global competition in the manufacturing sector has provided necessary impetus for manufacturing organizations for affecting continuous improvements in manufacturing performance for achieving sustainability and profitability in the competitive market. 5S implementation is the fundamental tool for the overall achievements in both quantitative and qualitative performance enhancements in the manufacturing as well as service organizations.

Global competition in the manufacturing industry forces to build a cross-organizational business process cooperative environment, in which manufacturers can share and utilize distributed resources and competencies for rapidly and cost-effectively developing products. But the varying manufacturing resources are heterogeneity which limits the business process execution in an automated way. This paper presents an approach for cross-organizational business processes integration in the cloud manufacturing paradigm. The main idea is to encapsulate an organization’s resources and competencies within appropriate interfaces and advertise it as semantic web services, called manufacturing service. An executable business process is achieved by manufacturing services composition. We give a detailed presentation of the cloud manufacturing service model. Semantically description of service not only contains resources’ capability, but also is considered as mediators to bridge the gap between the modeled processes and their implementation. The main integration process is introduced based our approach.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to include investigations of current status of Total Quality Management (TQM) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) implementation initiatives as well as benefits attained through synergetic TQM-TPM implementation in the manufacturing organization to assess roadmap followed by Indian manufacturing entrepreneur toward affecting manufacturing performance enhancements. Design/methodology/approach – The study has been carried out in the large scale manufacturing organization in the country that have implemented or are in the process of implementing TPM alone and TQM-TPM both. The study emphasizes upon comparing of business performance enhancements accrued through these quality improvement approaches. Findings – The study revealed that Transfusion of TQM-TPM initiatives can significantly contribute toward the better improvement of manufacturing performance in the organization, rather than TPM alone initiatives, also leading toward realization of core competencies for meeting global challenges. Research limitations/implications – The study is conducted to develop an understanding of contributions of TQM and TPM initiatives in Indian manufacturing industry. The present study endeavors to investigate the effect of an aggressive TQM-TPM implementation plan for strategically meeting global challenges and competition. Originality/value – The study highlights the contributions made by holistic TQM-TPM implementation in an Indian manufacturing enterprise.

The manufacturing industry applies the use of ERP to run corporate business processes, build good communication and improve service quality. This study aims to provide a Business Process Reengineering proposal to the sales department using the Odoo V12.0 so that the system can be integrated. The methodology used in this research is Business Process Reengineering, where the research only focuses on the sales field. Existing business processes, namely purchasing products, sales orders and invoicing manuall. Reengineering that has been carried out is the product sales process, the sales order process, and the payment process. Reengineering has been carried out quite well by using the User Acceptance Test method and obtaining agreed responses as the greatest value in every aspect. The results obtained are based on 5 categories, namely content items by 63%, module items by 53%, multimedia element items by 88%, navigation aspects by 70% and usability items by 82%. PurposeThe Indian manufacturing sector currently contributes 16–17% to gross domestic product (GDP) and gives employment to around 12% (2014) of the country's workforce. Among the various initiatives planned under Atma Nirbhar Bharat and “Make in India”, the Indian government aims to increase the share of the manufacturing sector to country's GDP to 25% by 2025. To ensure sustainable growth of the Indian manufacturing industries in global market, successful and implementation of strategies such as lean manufacturing, green manufacturing along with six sigma are crucial. This research aims at identification and analysis of barriers to successful implementation of integrated Lean Green Six Sigma (LG&SS) strategies.Design/methodology/approachBased on an evaluative literature review and expert's opinion, this research identifies 18 barriers to lean, green and six sigma implementation in the manufacturing industry in India. The inter-relationships among the barriers is identified using an integrated approach of ISM (interpretive structural modelling) and Fuzzy Matrice d’Impacts Croisés Multiplication Appliquée á un Classement (MICMAC).FindingsISM helps to derive key managerial insights and implementation plan based on the identified inter-relationships among the barriers. Fuzzy MICMAC analysis classifies the barriers into four categories, namely, autonomous, driver, dependent and linkage to understand their relative impact on the implementation of LG&SS practices in the Indian manufacturing industry. “Lack of cooperation and mutual trust between management and employees”, “The scarcity of time and work pressure”, “lack of continuous improvement work culture” and “lack of cooperation from suppliers” that forms the top most level of the model. “Weak legislation” is a highly significant barrier to LG&SS implementation in the Indian manufacturing industries.Practical implicationsIt is expected that the findings of this research will help the Indian manufacturing industry to derive a sustainable competitive advantage through an effective implementation of LG&SS practices.Originality/valueThis study can be seen as the first attempt in investigating barriers to successful implementation of lean, green and six sigma strategies in the Indian manufacturing industries using ISM and fuzzy MICMAC analysis.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify the relationship between TPM programme and manufacturing performance in Indian manufacturing industries; to discern the benefits obtained from TPM implementation; to identify common indicators; and to explore the common expectation while TPM implementation. Design/methodology/approach – In this paper acceptability and implementation of TPM programme in Indian manufacturing industry have been elaborated to ascertain the tangible and intangible benefits accrued as a result of successful TPM implementation. A semi-structured questionnaire survey approach has been adopted for the justification of TPM implementation and benefits gained by it in Indian context. Survey has covered mainly automobile and machinery sector throughout India. A total of 57 filled responses have been received and analysed to find the impact of TPM programme on manufacturing productivity. Findings – The paper establishes the impact of successful TPM implementation on manufacturing performance. TPM initiatives have shown marked improvement in the equipment availability, performance and produced quality and have also brought appreciable improvement in other manufacturing functions in the organizations. It has been observed that TPM deployment contributes to improve the manufacturing productivity, quality, delivery, safety, morale, ensuring the cost effectiveness of the manufacturing function within the organization. The paper also indicates that overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) can be used for performance improvement without TPM implementation. Research limitations/implications – Because of the chosen research approach, the research results may lack generalizability. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the proposed propositions further. Practical implications – This paper highlights the contribution of TPM programme and OEE measure to ensure enhanced manufacturing productivity. The benefits gained by TPM implementation in selected Indian manufacturing industries have been highlighted, that could be genuine source of motivation to other manufacturing organizations to go in for TPM programme. Originality/value – The present study encompasses systematic identification of factors affecting overall organizational performance and the common expectations of the firms through implementation of TPM programme. TPM initiatives provide regular OEE measure, performance monitoring and improvement, and developing guidelines for achieving enhanced manufacturing productivity.

This study aims to improve the sales business processes of paper manufacturing industry. While manual systems are still used in the company operations utilized today, this study would enhance the business process with the ERP system approach. This analysis uses methods of exploration, interviews, and literature reviews on business process growth. The findings of this study include a new design of business processes and suggestions for business processes that meet the needs of the paper manufacturing ERP system.

Advances in cloud-enabled service-oriented architectures (SOA) have caused a resurgence of industry interest in business process catalog as a vehicle for establishing shared references for collaborative business processes. With this paper, we start to explore the state of art and practice in business process catalog and classification scheme (BPCCS) development and use for the manufacturing industry. More specifically, this paper includes two major contributions. First, we identify a set of initial requirements for BPCCS. Second, we provide a use-case analysis based on the identified requirements. We end by comparing our BPCCS requirements with those being developed across other, BPCCS R&D groups.
