This book explores the legacy of the Brothers Grimm in Europe and North America, from the nineteenth century to the present. The book reveals how the Grimms came to play a pivotal and unusual role in the evolution of Western folklore and in the history of the most significant cultural genre in the world—the fairy tale. Folklorists Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm sought to discover and preserve a rich abundance of stories emanating from an oral tradition, and encouraged friends, colleagues, and strangers to gather and share these tales. As a result, hundreds of thousands of wonderful folk and fairy tales poured into books throughout Europe and have kept coming. The book looks at the transformation of the Grimms' tales into children's literature, the Americanization of the tales, the “Grimm” aspects of contemporary tales, and the tales' utopian impulses. It shows that the Grimms were not the first scholars to turn their attention to folk tales, but were vital in expanding readership and setting the high standards for folk-tale collecting that continue through the current era. The book concludes with a look at contemporary adaptations of the tales and raises questions about authenticity, target audience, and consumerism. The book examines the lasting universal influence of two brothers and their collected tales on today's storytelling world.

Background. The article focuses on specific similarities of the peoples of the world in their views on the crow. Also in myths, in German and Uzbek fairy tales, the portrayal of the crow in positive and negative images was analysed comparatively. All folk tales lead to good. The same lesson is also reflected in the article on the educational significance of the two folk tales. Methods. Particular attention is paid to the fact that the peoples of the world have certain similarities in their views on the crow. The image of the Crow also moved to fairy tales based on Legends. Results. In the fairy tale, it is not explained why the hero became a crow. It is known that in fairy tales the evolution of children to different birds (often owl or crow) is described either because of some side work of their father, or because of his own senselessness. Discussions. In German fairy tales Interesting is that in “Die sieben Raben“ “The seven ravens”, “Die Rabe“ ‘The raven” fairy tales, a crow is not just an ordinary bird, but a symbol of children. In Uzbek fairy tales, the image of birds is focused on fostering such positive personal qualities as industriousness, honesty and friendliness.

This chapter looks into the heart of Neil Jordan's The Company of Wolves as a story of sexual awakening, literal and figurative formation, and the empowerment of women. It discusses how The Company of Wolves carries a strong feminist message that is more than a singular concept, like the short stories from Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber. It also explains Carter's brand of feminism that represents one strand that was often at odds with those of other feminists at the time and even considered highly controversial. The chapter analyses how Carter sought to expose how women's sexuality is perceived as a myth instigated and perpetuated by moral and social conditioning. It discloses Carter's frequent visit to the world of fairy tales to critique culturally constructed notions relating to women, gender roles and femininity.

This article first discusses the history and ideology of fairy tales. As Walter Benjamin said in his essay “The Storyteller”, rumors and information were spread verbally, from person to person. So were fairy tales. Through storytelling, the history and experience is spread from generation to generation. So that audience, especially children, gather to listen to the folks and stories about things “long long ago”, sharing the memories and experience of the storytellers. Based on this idea, the article further analyses the utopian function of fairy tales, which depict the feasibility of utopian alternatives by means of fantastic images. Because in the name of fairy tales, anything is possible. Apart from hope and wish, there was dissatisfaction in fairy tales. Ernst Bloch placed special emphasis on dissatisfaction as a condition which ignites the utopian drive, so that it remains a powerful cultural force among the audience, urges them to resist, to change the unreasonable things in the world. At last, it comes to the ethical use of fairy tales with children. Many scholars, like Bruno Bettelheim and Julius E. Heuscher, have done some psychiatric and psychological research on the meaning and usefulness of fairy tales. Different from those, this article mainly talks about the literary education in fairy tales, how the words, characters and plots play a role in education.

The article is devoted to the study of the symbolic meaning of the image of the ring in the play by N.S. Gumilyov “Child of Allah”. The cultural semantics of “Solomon’s ring”, its rootedness in the traditions of the East, are traced. It is concluded that the ring in the play serves as a connecting link between the divine name and poetic inspiration. The article first pointed to a number of uses of the ring in Ancient Iran. Such a diverse semiotics of the ring found its refraction in the play N.S. Gumilyov “The Child of Allah”. In this play, the ring plays a key role. The ring defines the world poles of good and evil. Performed by Oriental motifs, Gumilyov’s play at the same time does not repeat or develop any of the semantic definitions of the ring mentioned in the article. In the article we turn to the mysterious meaning of the ring in this work. Thus, the ring in the play “the Child of Allah” has an Association with the magic rings of Eastern fairy tales.

Background. The article provides a lot of information about the commonalities between the genres of English and Uzbek folklore. In addition, in English and Uzbek fairy tales, many writers have expressed their views on the harmony of colors. There is also information about the differences between English and Uzbek fairy tales. Methods. From time immemorial, man has not only fought for his own survival, but also for the longevity of his tribe. Consequently, the content of alla, rubbish, fairy tales and riddles is primarily aimed at shaping a conscious, strong, agile and agile human upbringing. People's perceptions of the world around them and their accumulated knowledge about it, as well as their wisdom and conclusions based on life experiences, are conveyed to children in the form of specific advices and means that they can understand. That is why there is a lot in common in the folklore of different peoples, even in countries far away from each other

It is surprising that in English and Uzbek folklore and literature there are similarities in the expression of mythological images, despite the fact that they are from different language systems and different continents far from each other. British folklore is rich in a variety of images, which, with their distinctive features, have a place not only in English but also in world literature. Such images are distinguished by their versatility and have both negative and positive character traits. No matter which world literature we look at, we can find the translation of myths, legends, and fairy tales in that language which is the indication of how important role such images have in the world literature. The terms mythology, myth, and mythological names are defined differently in various sources. The types of mythological names, on the other hand, have been classified differently as a result of the research carried out by different researchers, each of which has been studied and analyzed comparatively. Studies have concluded that mythology was formed as a system of primitive worldviews and encompassed the philosophical, moral, and social views of our ancestors, the simplest scientific interpretations of the universe and human life, as well as the art of speech, rituals, and various forms of mythological thinking. This article provides a description of the terms myth, mythology and mythological names, their classification by various researchers, as well as information about mythological images in English and Uzbek literature, and comments on their classifications. In particular, information on the history of its emergence, the appearance of the image of witches, elves, giants, trolls, goblins in English myths and fairy tales in different forms and purposes is given. The mythological images of birds and dragons in both English and Uzbek literature have been studied comparatively. The reflections on their similarities and differences in English and Uzbek literature have been analyzed.

In this paper we analyze the first story-book of the internationally renowned contemporary Hungarian storyteller, Csenge Virág Zalka. In the first section we investigate the differences between folktale and literary tale, storyteller and story writer, further-/retold heritage and own creation as well as how the boundaries between them destabilize if we note down the folktale originally living in the oral traditional form. Furthermore, we will be discussing the female horizon prevalent in the Zalkaian tale-variants as well as the all-time topicality of the stories by putting the contemporary social and psychological analogies and taboo-breaking procedures of the tales in the foreground. In the focus of our investigation the Ribizli a világ végén [Currant at the End of the World] stands as a literary creation, which although we (also) analyze with an approach coming from the relevant literature of folktales and remade fairy tales, we do this all the way through the analysis in light of the postmodern text-organizing strategies.
