The study was intended to investigate the in vitro activity of alcoholic extract of Garlic on the inhibition of growth of Staph. aureus which was isolated from skin infections , and determine the median lethal dose ( LD 50 ) of the extract in lab. mice. The Garlic was extracted by ethyl alcohol 95% , the ratio of ethanolic extraction amounted 44% of the weight of dry substance. Graduated concentration were prepared from alcoholic extract of Garlic from 10-100 mg/ml. Their activities were checked up against Staph.aureus by agar diffusion method using ethylene glycol as control. The results showed that the sensitivity of the test bacteria was gradually increased with increasing the extract concentration , the concentration 10-30 mg/ml were rather low active in preventing the growing of Staph. aureus in culturing media , the concentrations 40-70 mg/ml were moderately active ,meanwhile the concentrations 80-100 mg/ml were highly active against the growing of Staph.aureus . The results also showed that the LD50 of the ethanolic extract of Garlic when it is orally administered to the lab mice by gradual concentrations was about 8000 mg/kg body weight . The toxic signs during 24 hrs after initial feeding with the extract were rapid breathing followed by dullness , then death

Aim: The study was aimed at evaluating the effects of ethanolic extract of Sesamum indicum seeds on sperm morphology and viability in ketoconazole induced testicular damage in Wistar rats. Methods: Forty eight adult male Wistar rats were divided into eight Groups of six rats each. Groups 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 were administered 1ml of normal saline, 100 mg /kg body weight (bwt) of Ketoconazole only, 500 mg/kg bwt of ethanolic extract of sesamum indicum (EESI) seeds then100 mg/kg bwt of Ketoconazole, 100 mg/kg bwt of Ketoconazole then 250 mg /kg body weight of EESI seeds,100 mg/kg bwt of Ketoconazole then 500 mg/kg bwt of EESI, 100 mg/kg body weight of Ketoconazole then 0.36 mg/kg body weight of Mesterolone, 0.36 mg/kg body weight of Mesterolone, 500 mg/kg body weight of EESI respectively. All administrations were carried out orally once per day. The sperm smears were collected for semen analyses. Result: A significant increase in the abnormalities of sperm morphology and viability respectively were noted in the group administered ketoconazole alone (Group 2) compared with other experimental Groups (P ≤ 0.05). Conclusions: The administration of ethanolic extract of Sesamum indicum appeared to have minimized the damages and sperm deaths caused by ketoconazole which may be due to its androgenic properties.

Nerium oleander leaves ethanolic extract at median lethal dose of 520 mg/kg body weight were administered orally to six male mice .Clinical signs of toxicosis in mice began to appear about 1 hr after receiving the oleander extract which included abdominal pain, frequent urination, diarrhea, depression, weakness and convulsive movement and death at the end stage.Four mice died within 4 to 24 hrs and two survived. Haemorrhage spots of varying degrees were observed in internal organs at necropsy.Histopathology revealed extensive tubular necrosis in kidneys with haemosiderin pigment in the cytoplasm of convoluted tubular cells, different degrees of coagulative necrosis in cardiac muscle cells associated with haemorrhage and infiltration of mononuclear inflammatory cells. Scattered necrosis of hepatocytes, congestion and oedema in lungs with severe congestion in the brain also observed histologically.
