The growing issues on the quality of audit and accounting conservatisms have long been regarded and seemed as a hot debated since both could impact on the capital market efficiency. This study aims to investigate the impact of the audit quality which is characterized by audit firm size, auditor specialization, and auditor tenure on accounting conservatisms in the financial reports of the more active 50 non-financial companies listed at Egyptian stock exchange across four years of period from 2007 to 2010. After controlling for company size, leverage and profitability, the results show that auditing quality characteristics (audit firm size, auditor specialization, and auditor tenure) have significant positive relation with accounting conservatism. On the other hand, no significant relationship is found between company size and accounting conservatism. Based on these results, the study provided recommendations to the interested parties.

The purpose of this paper is to study the impact of some attributes of auditor quality such as: auditor tenure, auditor industry specialist, auditor experience and the audit firm size on auditor auditee negotiation outcomes. For the entire sample of 81 Tunisians firms, our results indicate positive and significant relationship between auditor tenure, auditor experience and the extent to which the auditee agreed with the auditor over the financial reporting issues. On the other hand, the results indicate a positive but non-significant relationship between the auditor industry specialist and the negotiation outcome. For the audit firm size, we find that auditees are more likely to agree with big 4 audits firms. Indeed, we find no significant relationship between importance, size and performance of the auditee and auditor auditee negotiation outcome

Conservatism is one of the salient features of financial reporting that has attracted more attention in recent years because of financial scandals. Several recent studies have focused specifically on conservatism. This research tries to investigate the effect of auditor tenure and the importance of the client's accounting conservatism by using panel data model, multivariate regression, and data of 114 companies listed in Tehran Stock Exchange during the years 2011 to 2015. The results showed that there is an inverse relationship between auditor tenure and conservatism of auditees; moreover, the client’s importance has an additive effect on the inverse relationship between auditor tenure and conservatism of client.

AbstractThe main purpose of this paper is to determine the impact that Big 4 companies have had after the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) became mandatory on the audit market. Thus, after thorough research of the specialised studies, the impact of the financial reporting based on IFRS is analysed, while considering that Big 4 companies have created a strong monopoly that led to several changes on the audit market. All the companies listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange that traded premium shares from 2011 to 2019 were analysed. With the use of ANOVA analysis, this paper verifies if the profitability, shareholders’ funds, firm size and the size of the business group influence the choice of the audit firm. Our results confirm that the choice of an audit firm is influenced by the shareholders’ funds, number of employees and the size of the business group. Besides, this paper presents an analysis of the changes that have occurred from 2011–2019 on the audit market of Romania.

The objective of this study is to examine the impact of the audit committee, firm size, profitability, and leverage on income smoothing in manufacturing companies listed in Indonesia stock exchange for the period of 2013-2015. Regression statistics are employed to analyse the secondary source of data collected from the annual report of the companies. Measurement of income smoothing is proxied by discretionary accruals. The results of the study reveal that the firm size has a direct positive influence on income smoothing in the listed manufacturing companies in Indonesia. In essence, the more significant a firm size, the more actively performed income smoothing practices. In contrast, profitability indicates an adverse effect on income smoothing in the listed manufacturing companies. The adverse effect indicates that the higher the profit generated, the lesser the income smoothing practices performed. Similarly, leverage posits an adverse effect on income smoothing in the manufacturing sector. This indicates the smaller the risk of companies debt, the more exceptional the practice of income smoothing occurs. The audit committee size similarly shows a negative influence on income smoothing in the listed manufacturing companies. This finding indicates the larger audit committee size, the smaller practice of income smoothing. This occurs because the audit committee oversight function on financial reporting is more efficiently performed. The result of this research shows the contribution to theory, practice, and method, especially in developing countries.

The study seeks to ascertain the effect of tax avoidance on the accounting conservatism of listed non-financial firms in Nigeria. Tax avoidance was proxied by Generally Accepted Accounting Principle Effective Tax Rate (GETR), Cash Effective Tax Rate (CETR), and Book Tax Difference (BTD), while accounting conservatism was measured using Negative Accruals (NA). The control variables utilised were leverage, Return on Asset (ROA), and Firm Size (FS). The study covered a period of seven years (2014-2020) and a population of forty-eight listed non-financial firms on the Nigerian stock exchange. The data were analysed using the panel regression technique. The findings discovered that GETR and BTD significantly and negatively affect unconditional conservatism. Overall, this paper shows that tax avoidance is a determinant of financial reporting conservatism in Nigeria.
