The indigenous knowledge of the Basotho makes it simple for this speech community to name their traditional medicinal plants in such a way that they are meaningful; this could also be viewed as an empowerment technique, especially in the economic sphere. Their medicinal plants names seem to be idiomatic and to express certain philosophies of the Basotho society. Creativity is observable in this kind of naming, and many names allude to the kind of remedy that is associated with the medicinal plant. It is therefore the interest of this paper to consider the names of medical plants among the Basotho whose names allude to the remedy they provide. The names of Sesotho medicinal plants and the reasoning of the Basotho in general behind the name and the use of each medicinal plant will be discussed in this article. This paper will further preserve and promote the use of Basotho traditional medicines for the future generation.

Over the pastdecade, particular attention has been paid to studies of the chemical composition of medical plants to identify the possible negative consequences of using raw plant material polluted with heavy metals for the production of medical drugs. In our study, we analyzed the chemical composition of the medical plants growing in the impact area of the Novocherkassk power station. Specifically, the plants Artemisia austriaca, Poa pratensis and Elytrigia repenswere examined for the analysis.The content and distribution of Zn and Cd, which are most distributed in industrial emissions and belong to the first class of hazardous elements, were measured. The maximum permissible content (MPC) of Zn in the raw material of Artemisia austriaca and Elytrigia repens was found, as was the maximum content of Cd in all analyzed plants growing in the 5km area around thepower station. The plant Artemisia austriacawasfound to have Zn and Cd accumulation in itsabovegroundcomponents, while in Poa pratensis and Elytrigia repens, accumulation was in the roots. The morphobiometric parameters of the plants were mostly dependent on the soil properties, followed by the degree of technogenic load. The content of Zn and Cd in the medical drugs was higher than the MPC without visible features of heavy metal pollution and so these plants weredangerous for human health. Currently, antibiotic resistance in pathogenic bacteria is a significant clinical problem with the increase of deseases and a serious public health concern. Thus, the identification of new antimicrobial agents, especially the secondary metabolites products by endophytic actinobacteria from medical plants could be promising sources of biologically active compounds in medical fields. This study focused on identification and evaluation of antimicrobial activity against pathogens; genes involved in their secondary metabolisms, and screening of anthracycline producing capacity (mainly presented in anti-cancer antibiotics) of YBQ75 isolated from Cinnamomum cassia Presl. plants in Yen Bai province. Based on manual of bacterial classification, method in International Streptomyces Project (ISP) and the 16S rRNA gene sequence (GenBank Acc. No. KR814822), the endophytic actinomycetes YBQ75 was named Streptomyces cavourensis YBQ75 with 100% identity. The strain S. cavourensis YBQ75 showed the remarkable antibacterial activities against 5 tested pathogens (Salmonella enterica ATCC 14028 (22.0 mm); Pseudomonas aeruginosa CNLM (19.3 mm); Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228 (19.3 mm); Enterobacter aerogenes ATCC 13048 (17.7 mm) and Proteus vulgaris CNLM (16.3 mm)) in the total of 9 tested pathogens. The detection of genes involved in antibiotic synthesis indicated that the strain S. cavourensis YBQ75 consists of all three genes related to antibiotic synthesis including polyketide synthase (pks-I) type I, polyketide synthase type II (pks-II) and nonribosomal peptide synthetase (nrps). Premarilly result showed that the strain S. cavourensis YBQ75 also present as an anthracycline productive actinomycetes. The resutls demonstrated that the endophytic actinomycetes S. cavourensis YBQ75 from medical plants could be promising sources for the production of antibiotics and anthracycline anticancer compounds.
