AbstractIn this research, we have developed an approach by incorporating quantum dots (QDs) with red emission into mesoporous silica microspheres through a non-chemical process and obtained luminescent microspheres (LMS). Owing to the lattice structure of LMS, QDs were effectively protected from intrinsic aggregation in matrix and surface deterioration by encapsulant, oxygen and moisture. The LMS composite has therefore maintained large extent luminescent properties of QDs, espe-cially for the high quantum efficiency. Moreover, the fabricated white light emitting diode (WLED) utilizing LMS and YAG:Ce yellow phosphor has demonstrated excellent light performance with color coordinates around (x = 0.33, y = 0.33), correlated color temperature between 5100 and 5500 K and color rendering index of Ra = 90, R9 = 95. The luminous efficiency of the WLED has reached up to a new record of 142.5 lm/W at 20 mA. LMS provide a promising way to practically apply QDs in lightings and displays with high efficiency as well as high stability.

In consideration of the Sm3þ-centered characteristic orange-light as the ideal color-primary component toward a dichromatic white-light, herein, through the doping of the complex [Sm(acac)3(5-Br-2,20-bpy)] (2; Hacac ¼ acetylacetone; 5-Br-2,2′-bpy ¼ 5-Br-2,20-bipyridine) into the PVK (PVK ¼ poly(N-vinyl-carbazole)) host, the obtained PVK@2 film (10:1, wt/wt) exhibits the straightforward solid-state white-light (ΦPL ¼ 6.7%). Further using the PVK@2 film (10:1; wt/wt) as the emitting layer, its singlecomponent solution-processed WPLED gives the electroluminescent performance (LMax of 360.9 cd/m2, ηMax c of 1.08 cd/A) satisfactory enough for portable full-color flat displays

Based on the doping of the binary tris-pyrazolate-Sm3þ complex [Sm(tba-PMP)3(5-Br-2,20-bpy)] (1; 5-Br-2,2′bpy ¼ 5-bromo2,20-bipyridine and Htba-PMP ¼ 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-(tert-butylacetyl)-5-pyrazolone)) with an efficient orange-light into the PVK (poly(N-vinylcarbazole) host, the obtained PVK@1 films exhibit the dichromatic color-tuning (white-light to purplish-pink and to pink) characters strictly relative to the Sm3þdoping content and the λex wavelength. Further using the PVK@1 film (10:1; wt/wt) with the straightforward white-light (ΦPL ¼ 5.8%) as the emitting layer, its single-component solution-processed WPLED gives the electroluminescent performance (LMax of 157 cd/m2, ηMax c of 0.65 cd/A and the white-light-emitting stability) satisfactory enough for portable full-color flat displays.
