The Neotropical orchid genusPonthievaR. Br. was established in 1813. The 70 representatives of this taxon are terrestrial, lithophytic, or epiphytic plants with basal, sessile, or petiolate leaves which are glabrous or pubescent. Their erect peduncle is pubescent and terminated by lax, few- to many-flowered raceme. Flowers are non-resupinate, with dissimilar sepals and asymmetrical petals which are adnate to the sides of the gynostemium. The lip is uppermost, fused to the lower part of the gynostemium. Here the synopsis of ColombianPonthievais presented. A list of national genus representatives includes 26 species, including one new species,P. vallecaucanaSzlach. Kolan. & Olędrzyńska, sp. nov., discovered during this study. We did not confirm occurrence of four species reported in previous research. To facilitate process of identification of genus representatives, we dividedPonthievainto six morphological complexes based on vegetative and floral characters. The highest number of species was found in Magdalena and Cauca Valley montane forests. Lectotypes forPonthieva inauditaandP. mandoniiare designated. Morphological characteristics and illustrations of perianth segments of Colombian representatives of the genus are provided as well as a key for their identification.

A taxonomic synopsis of the orchid genus Habenaria in New Guinea and adjacent islands is presented. We confirmed the occurrence of 27 Habenaria species in study area. Sixteen of these are endemic and were not so far found outside New Guinea. Morphological characteristics and illustrations of floral segments of taxa are presented. One new species of Habenaria is described. Four neotypes are selected. An updated key to species groups and species occurring in the study area is provided. The importance of diagnostic floral characters in Habenaria is discussed.

Neurosystasis Satchell is newly recorded in Mexico by means of the description of a new species. Specimens captured in a tropical deciduous forest in southern Puebla, central Mexico, were examined and determined as a species new to science. The male and female are described based on morphological characteristics. Neurosystasis longistylis sp. nov. is similar in appearance to Neurosystasis saltenia (Omad, Mangudo & Gleiser, 2015), but is readily distinguished based on characters of the head, wing, and male genitalia. In both species, R2+3 is attached to vein R4, the wing membrane is infuscate with dark spots on vein apices, and lacks sensory organs near the apex of Sc, characters not present in other species of Neurosystasis, and for that reasons we proposed the recovery of Chuspilepia from its synonym and validate it as a subgenus of Neurosystasis to include both continental species.

Fifty-eight taxa of Odonata are herewith reported from Batanta Island (including Arefi and Birie Islands). One new species is described: Argiolestes varga sp. nov. The following ten species are new to the Raja Ampat Islands: Papuagrion magnanimum (Selys, 1876), Gynacantha rosenbergi Kaup, 1867, Palaeosynthemis cf. cervula (Lieftinck, 1938), Diplacina smaragdina Selys, 1878, Nannophlebia amphicyllis Lieftinck, 1933, Pantala flavescens (Fabricius, 1798), Rhodothemis nigripes Lohmann, 1984, Rhyothemis regia (Brauer, 1867), Tramea transmarina propinqua Lieftinck, 1942, Zyxomma multinervorum Carpenter, 1897, and fifteen are new to Batanta: Selysioneura cornelia Lieftinck, 1953, P. magnanimum, Agyrtacantha dirupta (Karsch, 1889), Anax maclachlani Förster, 1898, G. rosenbergi, P. cf. cervula, D. smaragdina, N. amphicyllis, Nesoxenia mysis (Selys, 1878), P. flavescens, R. nigripes, R. regia, Tetrathemis irregularis Brauer, 1868, T. transmarina propinqua, Z. multinervorum. Metagrion postnodale (Selys, 1878) and Selysioneura cf. cervicornu Förster, 1900 are deleted from the faunal lists of Odonata of Raja Ampat and Batanta Islands. The total number of species recorded for Batanta Island is 62.

A faunistic survey of the Hispaniolan bugs of the family Coreidae is presented based on the study of over 1000 specimens deposited in several entomological collections. The new species Zicca gloriosa sp. nov. is described from the Dominican Republic. Another 12 species are new records for the island, 11 of them being new records for the Dominican Republic: Althos obscurator (Fabricius, 1803), Anasa acutangula Stål, 1870, Anasa tristis (De Geer, 1773), Eubule spartocerana Brailovsky, 1992, Leptoglossus confusus Alayo & Grillo, 1977, Mamurius cubanus Barber & Bruner, 1947, Merocoris distinctus Dallas, 1852, Merocoris typhaeus (Fabricius, 1798), Phthia rubropicta (Westwood, 1842), Sethenira ferruginea Stål, 1870, and Zicca rubricator rubricator (Fabricius, 1803). New records for Haiti are Anasa scorbutica (Fabricius, 1798), Catorhintha selector Stål, 1859, Chariesterus gracilicornis Stål, 1870, Rhytidophthia splendida (Valdes, 1910) and Zicca taeniola (Dallas, 1852). The literature citations presented in Perez-Gelabert (2008) of Leptoglossus cinctus (Herrich-Schäffer, 1836) and Leptoglossus stigma (Herbst, 1784) are probably based on erroneous identifications and not counted as part of the Hispaniolan fauna. The total number of species presently known from Hispaniola is raised to 28. Key to subfamilies, tribes, genera and species are included, as well as color dorsal habitus.

Morphological characteristics for identification of the leafhopper genus Watara Dworakowska are described and a key to all known species is provided. One new species, Watara longiprocessa sp. n., is added and one previously described species recorded from Thailand for the first time, Watara cordata Zhang & Yang, 2011 rec. n., is illustrated.

We report the Carabidae collected at the Shada Al-A’Ala Nature Reserve (SANR) in Baha Province in southwestern Saudi Arabia during 2013–2015. In total, 62 carabid species and subspecies representing 39 genera, 17 tribes, and 10 subfamilies were identified, including one new species, Paussusminutulus Nagel & Rasool, sp. n, four new country records, and 24 species that are new provincial records for Baha. The carabid fauna was dominated by the Lebiini with 19 species. A high number of species were rarely collected (34 species) in comparison to the more abundant and common species (9 species). The highest number of species (52 species) was collected during autumn. The carabids of SANR are represented by a large component of Afrotropical faunal elements (28.1%) and smaller numbers of Oriental species (3.5%) and endemic taxa (5.3%). In comparison to Garf Raydah Nature Reserve in Asir Province, also in southwestern Saudi Arabia, SANR had an equal number of carabids sharing 64.5% of the species but with lower number of endemic elements. Our study can serve as a component for implementing a conservation plan for SANR using carabid beetles as sentinel taxa. These research results may support future ecological studies on SNAR carabids.

The Fannidae includes over 400 described species, mainly known from the Holarctic Region. The number of species in the Oriental Region are underestimated. The Fannia fuscinata-group was established by Wang et al. in 2011, consisting of nine species at present. A new species of the genus Fannia (Diptera, Fanniidae) is described from Yunnan, part of the Oriental Region in China, namely Fannia menglaensis sp. nov. The detailed description, photographs and drawings of adults and male terminalia of F. menglaensis sp. nov. are provided. All specimens are preserved in the Museum of Beijing Forestry University.

Two New Caledonian endemics of Apocynaceae-Asclepiadoideae, predominantly natives of the Ile des Pins, an island south of New Caledonia known for its high microendemism, are here described as new to science. One new species, Heterostemma bicanthaceum (Ceropegieae), is related to H. acuminatum Decne. but differs remarkably in a number of floral characters such as a raised central corolla tube, and a dull purple-brown and wrinkled corona with expanded lateral appendages forming coronal rail-like structures. The other species described and illustrated, Marsdenia kuniensis (Marsdenieae), is sister to Marsdenia dognyensis from the Grande Terre. Its fleshy whitish to rose corolla with the tube closely encircling the corona as well as protruding and deltoid corona lobes broader than long distinguish the new species. These two species are restricted to calcareous forests and a preliminary IUCN red list assessment is proposed. Additionally, the name Marsdenia neomicrostoma is proposed for a species whose members have hitherto mostly been listed under the name Marsdenia microstoma, a name that has to be considered as nomen dubium after its type has been lost. The species is a typical element of ultramafic soil vegetation, and therefore widespread on Grande Terre but missing on the Ile des Pins.

Two species of the family Talitridae Rafinesque, 1815 are described from English Point Beach, Mkomani, Mombasa, Kenya. One new species Floresorchestia mkomani Bichang’a & Hou, sp. nov. is reported and Gazia gazi Lowry & Springthorpe, 2019 is redescribed. The new species is characterized by the five dentate lacinia mobilis on the left mandible in male and only four in female, pereopod IV dactylus thickened proximally and having a small protrusion towards the mid of its posterior margin, a sexually dimorphic pereopod VII, and the presence of vertical slits just above the ventral margin of epimera II and III. Detailed morphological characteristics, as well as comparisons with closely related species are provided. To ascertain the species delimitation, molecular evidence is availed in this paper. Type material is deposited in National Museums of Kenya (NMK).

In order to improve knowledge of Trichoptera diversity in Northeast Region, Brazil, we present here the first checklist of caddisflies from Maranhão State with a description of a new species and geographical records for the Northeast Region and for all of Brazil. Collections were made in 16 sites distributed in three municipalities of Maranhão State. A total of 54 caddisflies species, 26 genera and 10 families were recorded, including one new species of Leptoceridae, Triplectides maranhensis sp. nov., which is described and illustrated. All species listed here are recorded for the first time for the state, 23 of which are new records for the Northeast Region, as well as five new species for Brazil. These results increase the number of species reported from the Northeast Region from 167 to 221.
