The more urbanized and industrialized a country becomes, the more trash it produces. Waste management has been a crucial issue to be considered.  In this paper, a smart bin using GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) modem and ultrasonic sensor interface with Arduino Uno board as platform is proposed and prototyped. Technology in arduino, ultrasonic sensor and GSM module are reviewed. The GSM module is an open, digital cellular technology used for transmitting mobile voice, data services and transmission of SMS (Short Message Service). Ultrasonic Ranging Module, HC - SR04, is placed on the cover of the dustbin which will determine the status of the garbage inside. The minimum level of garbage inside the dustbin is 10 cm. Once the garbage reaches the minimum level, HC - SR04 ultrasonic sensor triggers the GSM modem which will continuously alert the required authority until the garbage is removed from the dustbin. Design shows that GSM modem and ultrasonic sensor interfacing using Arduino Uno board as platform can make garbage collection operations smarter, more efficient and less wasteful. To be more energy-efficient, solar power will be incorporated into future designs.

[Id]Dalam perkembangan saat ini running text dapat menjadi salah satu media informasi yg banyak dipakai berupa berita maupun iklan yang dikemas dengan tampilan yang unik dan menarik. Penulisan teks saat ini kebanyakan mengandalkan unit komputer ataupun remote kontrol yang memiliki keterbatasan dalam hal jarak dan tidak efisien. Pada perancangan ini, Arduino Uno digunakan sebagai perangkat penghubung yang telah di program sehingga user atau operator dapat menggunakan running text sebagai media informasi dengan menggunakan komunikasi melalui SMS (short message service) dari telepon seluler, kemudian pesan diterima oleh modul GSM (global system for mobile communications) Sim800L yang diteruskan ke mikrokontroller Arduino Uno untuk ditampilkan pada display running text yang dapat berupa huruf, angka dan tanda baca.Melalui rancang bangun running text ini diharapkan jarak jangkauan menjadi lebih luas antara running text dan penggunanya, proses perubahan teks nya bisa dilakukan sewaktu ? waktu dan proses pengubahan data running teks menjadi lebih mudah. Running Text yang digunakan type P10 ukuran 16cm x 32cm.Output tampilan berupa huruf atau angka yang terus berjalan sesuai pesan yang dikirim melalui SMS.Kata kunci: Running Text, Arduino Uno, SIM800L, Modul P10 16 x 32[En]Nowadays, running text is the most widely used information media in the form of news and advertisements that are packed with a unique and interesting appearance. Writing text currently mostly relies on computer units or remote controls that have limitations in terms of distance and inefficiency. In this design, Arduino Uno is used as a liaison device that already in at the program. so the user or operator can use running text as a medium of information by using communication via SMS (short message service) from mobile phone. The message received by GSM module (global system for mobile communications) Sim800L on the running text, then is forwarded to Arduino Uno microcontroller to be displayed on the display running text. Display that can be letters, numbers and punctuation marks. Through the design of the running text is expected to be wider range of distance between running text and its users, the process of text changes becomes easier for anytime. Running Text used type P10 size 16cm x 32cm. Output display in the form of letters or numbers are running according to messages via SMS.

The increasing in the number of vehicles on streets has led to traffic congestion. In order to reduce the waiting timein cases of emergency, the idea of this work is suggested. This work is divided into two parts, the particular part and softwarepart. The first circular particular part is a model which consists of four lanes junction of a traffic light, it also has GSM system (Global System for Mobile Communications). The GSM and lamps of the traffic light are connected to Arduino UNO. TheArduino controls every signal which is coming from the inputs (GSM) to software and display to the outputs (lamps) Thesecond circular particular part is a model which consist same components the first circuit except replace the GSM withIR(infrared Remote).The goal from this work is to help us in the emergence cases, the opening and closing of the traffic light arecontrolled by using GSM system and IR, the time of each lane, is controlled that means reduce the crowding.

ABSTRACT The slow handling of the flooding problem for people who live on riverbanks and densely populated areas in urban areas due to the lack of preliminary information obtained by the local community, causing huge losses both morally, materially and even causing fatalities. Based on these problems, a prototype monitoring system for flooding early detection was made with the aim that it can be used as a means of information whose data can be accessed through notifications in the form of short message services (SMS) in real time. In making this research, data collection was carried out in the form of water level data that had occurred at the location of the flood and then made the system design and implementation of that system by conducting trials in the field. This early flood detection system works by monitoring the water level using a level control system. This water level monitoring uses an ultrasonic sensor that is controlled using an arduino uno microcontroller. Data information about the water level is forwarded to the GSM module in the form of a notification message of SMS to the public. For the working of this prototype device in the design, the author uses an electrical power supply from renewable energy in the form of On Grid PLTS system. The results obtained from this research are for normal status the water level is at 5-50 cm, for alert status is 55-85 cm and for danger status is 90-100 cm. Keywords:   Water Level, Ultrasonic Sensor, Arduino Uno Microcontroller, GSM Module, On Grid PLTS System   ABSTRAK Lambatnya penanganan masalah banjir bagi masyarakat yang tinggal di daerah bantaran pinggiran sungai maupun kawasan padat penduduk yang berada di perkotaan dikarenakan kurangnya informasi awal yang diperoleh oleh masyarakat setempat sehingga menyebabkan kerugian yang sangat besar baik secara moril, materil bahkan sampai menimbulkan korban jiwa. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut maka dibuat suatu prototype sistem monitoring pendeteksi dini banjir dengan tujuan dapat digunakan sebagai sarana informasi yang datanya dapat diakses melalui notifikasi berupa short message service (SMS) secara real time. Dalam membuat penelitian ini dilakukan pengumpulan data berupa data level ketinggian air yang pernah terjadi di lokasi banjir kemudian membuat perancangan sistem serta pengimplementasian dari sistem yang dibuat dengan melakukan uji coba di lapangan. Sistem pendeteksi dini banjir ini bekerja dengan cara memantau level ketinggian air menggunakan sistem level control. Pemantauan level ketinggian air ini menggunakan sensor ultrasonik yang dikontrol menggunakan mikrokontroller arduino uno. Informasi berupa data-data mengenai level ketinggian air ini diteruskan ke modul GSM berupa pesan notifikasi dalam bentuk SMS kepada masyarakat. Untuk bekerjanya perangkat prototype ini dalam rancangannya penulis menggunakan suplai daya listrik dari renewable energy berupa sistem PLTS On Grid. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini yaitu bahwa untuk status normal level ketinggian air berada pada angka 5-50 cm, untuk status siaga berada pada angka  55-85 cm dan untuk status bahaya berada pada angka 90-100 cm. Dalam melaksanakan Tugas dan Kewajiban yang tertuang dalam Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi, dosen melakukan berbagai macam kegiatan. Untuk memaksimalkan pelaksanaan kegiatan dosen agar tidak ada kegiatan yang terlewatkan, maka dibutuhkan sebuah pengingat kegiatan  yang berbeda dengan pengingat yang telah ada saat ini. Untuk itu dibuat sebuah aplikasi e-Reminder Services (layanan pengingat elektronik) untuk kegiatan dosen berbasis SMS (Short Message Service) gateway. Alasan digunakannya media SMS karena layanan SMS pasti ada disetiap ponsel, berbeda dengan MMS dan WAP yang hanya ada dibeberapa merek dan tipe ponsel tertentu, serta penggunaan SMS tidak memakan banyak biaya. SMS gateway pada aplikasi ini menggunakan operator GSM (Global system for mobile Communications) dan modem GSM sebagai alat penghubung perangkat komputer dengan SMS gateway. Hasil akhir penelitian ini adalah SMS pengingat kegiatan yang diterima oleh dosen pada ponsel masing-masing. Dari hasil pengujian dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa aplikasi e-Reminder Services (layanan pengingat elektronik) untuk kegiatan dosen dapat diimplementasikan pada Jurusan Teknik Informatika UIN Suska Riau.

Zusammenfassung. Die Kommunikation per SMS (Short Message Service) erlaubt auf der Basis der Mobilfunktechnologie GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) unter anderem den interpersonalen Austausch elektronischer Kurzmitteilungen von maximal 160 alphanumerischen Zeichen über das Handy. Welche kommunikativen Funktionen erfüllt die SMS? Der Beitrag fasst Befunde aus Nutzer-Befragungen zu Anlässen und Gratifikationen der SMS-Kommunikation zusammen und berichtet die Ergebnisse einer auf der kommunikationsorientierten Textsortenlehre basierenden Inhaltanalyse von N = 1.000 authentischen SMS-Texten. Es zeigte sich, dass Kurzmitteilungen vor allem zur Pflege bestehender privater Beziehungen (Verabredungen, Medienwechsel, Grüße, Sprüche) sowie zur informativen Koorientierung (Lageberichte) und Koordination (praktische Unterstützung) individualisierter Alltagsabläufe eingesetzt werden. Implikationen dieses inhaltsanalytischen Zugangs für die SMS-bezogene Gratifikationsforschung werden diskutiert.

This paper deals with the design & development of an embedded system, which is being used to prevent /control the theft of a vehicle. The developed instrument is an embedded system based on GSM technology. The instrument is installed in the engine of the vehicle. An interfacing GSM modem is also connected to the microcontroller to send the message to the owner’s mobile. The main objective of this instrument is to protect the vehicle from any unauthorized access, through entering a protected password and intimate the status of the same vehicle to the authorize person (owner) using Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication technology. This system deals with the concept of network security. The main concept in this design is introducing the mobile communications into the embedded system. The entire designed unit is on a single board.

Parking space is becoming a serious problem due to increasing number of vehicles along with the mismanagement of available parking space. Particularly, in places where sports or artistic events are scheduled, searching for parking space is a major problem. In order to combat this problem, Smart Parking Platform is implemented using sensors to detect when a car enters or leaves a parking lot in order to track capacity and alert drivers about availability of parking space. Inefficient management of parking system effects traffic flow and also leads to wastage of time and fuel. Smart Parking Platform smoothens the parking experience and achieves convenience for users by displaying the status of the parking slots in web browser and guiding drivers towards empty parking slot. In this paper, each parking slot is equipped with an ultrasonic sensor which is interfaced to Arduino UNO microcontroller. Arduino UNO sends the trigger pulse to the ultrasonic sensor. Ultrasonic sensors senses whether the parking slot is empty or occupied and sends the data from echo pin to Arduino UNO, which is programmed in such a way that it processes the data and communicates to Node MCU. The status of the parking spaces is updated in the webpage regularly. The user can access the information regarding parking slots by connecting to the provided network. If a parking slot is empty, it is represented by green block. If it is filled, it is represented by red block. This project aims towards reducing traffic congestion and time while searching for parking space. It can be applicable in places such as convention centers, shopping malls, airports, bus stations, stadiums and theatres.
